You need to go into the PS4 version, upload one save (you can't do more than one at a time) then go into the PS5 version and then download that save.

If you want to transfer multiple saves, you need to repeat that cycle for each save, so you would need them both installed at the same time. If you're just transferring one save, I don't see why you couldn't uninstall the PS4 version after uploading the save.
Cheers for the info Roguey. I've completed it twice already on the PS4 and got the Plat, so I'll just transfer a completed save.

So after 15 or so hours I've downloaded the PS5 version...to be told I need to download the 100gb PS4 version to upload my save first. Fucking hell that's dogshit.

The exact same thing happened to me a few months ago with Avengers, also by Square Enix. So I'm glad I checked this thread before downloading the PS5 version, or I'd be complaining alongside you.

Donít think itís a Sqenix thing, itís Sony. They changed save formats between generations and donít have a graceful way of converting them.

Actually just thinking, might only need the 14gb to start the game and then can upload the save possibly? Should save me a good few hours!

I think that's true for the most part, and Sony should definitely find a way to make cross-saves natively work. But I also think because the early narrative has become that Sony didn't provide a way at launch, there's nothing publishers can do. But there are ways. Ubisoft has the most effective way, where every time you save, it uploads your save to the cloud, where it'll be there regardless of which platform you play on.
But even Saints Row the Third. I was about 40% complete on PS4. When the PS5 version was released, my save was there ready for me, without any extra work with the last gen version. If a smaller developer like Volition can figure it out, I don't think it's too much to ask one of the largest publishers around in Square Enix to set up a similar system, whether it's cloud saves or something else.

Or at least release the update a week or so prior, so the player can transfer their save beforehand and have it ready on release, rather than deleting the old game, downloading the new one, then finding out last minute the need to download the old game again, and the latest update to transfer their save.

So I booted it up, and it looks INCREDIBLE at native 4K in the Graphics mode, but it definitely feels much better in the Performance mode.

👍 Excellent suggestion there Humperfunk, I completely forgot that games on the PS4 download a certain percentage to initially allow you to start them, whilst continuing the full download. I've just checked this and can confirm I've been able to upload a save from the PS4 FFVIIR main menu! Excellent! Now to download the PS5 version...

Ah good to hear! My PS4 version should be done in an hour, therefore done when I wake up so that's good at least!

So continued my completed file and thought I'd go through on hard mode from the start chapter 1.

Keep all your equipment, thought it would be no problem at first.

That was true until the scorpion boss and the realisation I cannot use items in hard mode... wtaf it really is hard without items. Have died two times, first time I quickly ran out of MP, I then made that realisation and I had no way to cast life without phoenix downs, Second time I accidentally let cloud get on low on my and then he got ko... no way to cast life...

Will try next time with accessories that cast auto life. Changed up my materia and the second go was going much better.

But yeah, not sure I can be arsed with no items for the entire game...

Looks like I was not the only one stung with this PS4 save upload whilst installed and then download with PS5 bullshit. Wish I'd popped on here before deleting the PS4 version.

Whose brain fart was this?!? :(

The combat in this game really comes into its own on hard. The no items thing just means you need to manage your materia and MP a bit more, and curing abilities that use AP rather than MP (prayer and chakra) are essential

Had a quick blast on the PS5 version last night, as I only really wanted to grab the upgrade, and will probably pick up the Yuffie dlc when it's a bit cheaper. But yeah, this not only looks lovely but that glorious 60fps massively compliments this game so much given the energetic, action packed light show combat on screen.

I switched over from Performance to Resolution mode and it was a whole load of nope, it instantly looked so sluggish. I think a 60fps mode has to be at least an option going forward for most console games here on out, as it makes such a difference to the fluidity and feel of games like this, even if sacrifices have to be made in the level of new shiny.

Iím confused. I have the bog standard digital PS4 version. The free upgrade says Ďdisk requiredí.

Do I need to upgrade to digital delux or something?

Did you get the PS4 version as a PS Plus free game? If so the upgrade isn't included.

Weird. Does the PS4 version of the game show in your library without a padlock on it?

Good shout, it seems to have worked through the app, or at the very least something PS5ey is downloading for it.

These things are such a mess right now.

Yeah the PS4/PS5 shared game pages make the whole process so unintuitive. The app has saved my skin a few times with different things that haven't worked console side so it's always worth a look.

Nice to see you about again, hope you're doing well.

Not found much time for gaming over the last few days, but went back into thisbon hard mode this.

Now on chapter 3, and quite enjoying the challenge now I'm more aware if how quickly hp can drop and having equipped pray!

The scorpion boss was a decent challenge!

Really enjoyed the hard mode play through, starts to show off some of the materia and game play systems that it's easy to overlook/ignore on normal mode.

My theory now is that Zack is going to be a continual side story -perhaps playable - as he slowly catches up to Aerith and the rest of the gang and it threatens to be a big deal that he will eventually and accidentally blow Cloud's cover.

I still believe that for now, the story as far as the main party goes will continue more or less as normal, with Zack and Sephiroth being the ever present threat to the established sequence of events of the first game and for the plot to keep you on your toes. I think whenever it happens it will be Aerith who confirms it all for the party. Can't predict what will happen at that point.
