Registered 20 years agoYup - rains a bummer. Thank god for Subscriptions. I got mine yeserday. Nice shiny cover on it too and Ninty special too. Haven't read it though due to me trying to complete Metroid Prime before Zelda comes out. -

Is it me or are have are the articles starting to get really weak. Games are so now and Games are OK articles are the province of a poor month's work.

More a sort of damp mist at the minute, but they've guaranteed heavy rain by lunchtime. Oh well - at least I'll get out of gardening this weekend!

Registered 20 years agoMmm, pretty sparkly things. Shame every copy in Smiths was scratched to buggery.
Impressive discrepancy between Edge "All games are poo! Apart from Zelda" and Games TM "I haven't found the 'any' key yet" this month. -
Rain? Blistering hot sunshine here!

Registered 15 years agoYep, decided to revisit GamesTM with an iOS sub, after 10 years without it.
I'll have to check which print issue I stopped the sub at, as it could have been as late as 09, but I'm really not sure. I've got them all boxed up in Manchester.
The latest issue is pretty decent, and after all of the nonsense here with adverts, it's very refreshing to be able to just browse through the issue at my leisure.
I would actually welcome the static ads that appear in magazines over the web shit we've had to endure, as none of it distracts from reading the articles, or slows down my device, or wastes my time, or wastes my data allowance, or...

@Ryze Just went to look how much this was on IOS after reading your post and seaching pointed me to the readly app. Signed up for the trial to see how it is. It looks like it has a shitload of mags, including this and other gaming ones with some back issues for iirc £7.99/month. Don't know if I'll ever end up subbing but definitely going to make use of the trial to have a browse.

If they've actually removed a lot of the advertising as hinted above, then that wouldn't be surprising, as at least half of the pages during my time reading them were just adverts, not even counting the various hype pages - proper paid for and externally designed adverts.

Registered 15 years agoI guess I'm quite interested in grabbing the digital copies of issues I've missed over three past decade.
£47 for all 105 of their digital issues.
Might buy it for my self Christmas present 🎁
Of course, the web offers breaking news and other content that print media can't match.
I guess I've been refreshed by my removing every Eurogamer bookmark from all devices following the advert debacle. Not seen a peep regarding anything premium, so... -
@Spectral
Looks like there's quite a lot of decent magazines on the readly app, and there's a two or three that I buy fairly regularly so I'm giving it a go. I see about 20 other mags that I'd read or have bought occasionally in the past. I recall that there's another app called magzter that offers a similar service. I tried it out a couple of years ago. It worked well but a lot of the content wasn't included in the sub price. Might be different now. -
Just looked at that Magzter you mentioned and it looks very similar, although slightly more expensive. It does have at least one mag of interest readly is missing though. I used to read computer active a lot when I was younger and I'm quite curious to have a looksie through some modern issues. -
@Spectral
Readly looks a bit better than Magzter from what I've seen so far. It llseems you can give access to other people as well. I easily spend £10+ a month on magazines that they have so a sub would save me money. Some good back catalogue stuff also. Although it does make me tempted to buy an iPad 10.5! -
I'm enjoying looking through some of the back issues. I quite like reading some of the speculation and hype while knowing the outcome. -

Registered 16 years agoI've been reading some old back issues too, and was quickly reminded of why I stopped buying them. There's some occasionally awful writing, and they had a tendency to way overhype games in previews (their The Division one is a great example).
I quite liked their reviews though, and the retro section was fantastic.

Registered 14 years agoReadly also has three months for £7.99 right now if you want to make more of a commitment than the two week free trial (don't think you can do both).

@Stranded87 Thanks, decided to give it a go for that price. Will probably get my fill by then too so works out a nice cheap amusement.
@SomaticSense While all that sucks when its current, the bad writing and over hyping is amusing when reading it after the fact. I was just reading some of the hype for Assassins Creed Unity. -
I'm not typically one that swallows the 'gamz jurnalizm is corrupt' shit, but they do get very easily overexcited in previews.
Half of their write-up of their Dark Zone experience in The Division's big article seemed like pure fiction, and just didn't tally up a whole lot with what we ended up getting. It is really funny reading some of the previews and main event articles years after the games have been released and seeing the level of sugar-coating. It seems far more prevalent than with other publications and websites.
