@rauper They just appeared. I noticed them during my lunch, before you had even mentioned them. -

Mee too, they seem to work without Ghostery being switched off for this site so that's good.
I see them. EGX ones. -

Registered 20 years agoOh there it is, I've got no problem with that sort of thing.
Unless it starts turning into a Flash nightmare at some point in the future. -
@rauper I can see the new (acceptable) ones at work, so it's just your old ones someone in IT decided were evil .gif)

No video, no audio just plain simple ads that do what they need to do. -

Registered 17 years agoNothing here, but then Adblock Edge doesn't support them far as I know. -
@Whizzo They actually aren't allowed to -- every ad has to adhere to that template, so no feature creep is possible. It actually makes our jobs easier as well because we can say "no" to advertisers (because we can't say yes!)

@PearOfAnguish Yep, it's just ABP. -

Registered 17 years agoThis is just UK based I guess? I'm getting some muppet holding a basket of groceries to advertise Delhaize, a local chain of supermarkets. -

Well as I'm already going to EGX that would be more likely to get a click out of it from me!

Registered 13 years agoI have the new ads now too. They're ok, but quite noticable at the top of the page. When we move to a new building next year and I end up in an open-plan cubicle farm for office space I may have to revise my EG reading at work.
There's always lunch time I guess!

Registered 16 years agoI can absolutely see EG's point from the ad revenue side of things, but it's a hassle (as a user) to manage different settings for different sites you visit. So for me some kind of blocker is either on or off entirely - and once you've turned it on you just forget there were ads in the first place. (A work mate saw me using Yahoo mail for something and asked what it was - they'd stopped using it as the ads were so annoying there. I can't remember when I last saw any.)
It's also not great for every other bit of code to try to be grabbing your browsing history or activity: I've left EG open on just forum pages since about 10am and have so far blocked over 230 trackers... -

Sorry, are you saying that using this version of AB would make your site admin less problematic? I turned off AB for EG recently, so having the site owner say 'turn AB on' seems a bit surreal. : )

@Bremenacht Hehe, no, no... Not adblocking at all is the best scenario (for us) by a long way, but if you insist on blocking, AdBlock Plus with Acceptable Ads enabled is better than a complete block or using other adblockers that don't allow Acceptable Ads.
Edit: missing "than"

Registered 15 years agoI find these ads great.
A question: what's the story with the mobile site and ads? I have adblock disabled on EG, but I use the mobile site on the computer, since I find the HD one way too wide for my taste and I get no ads at all. OTOH, I do get ads on the iPhone.
Oh, and you know what you/we really need? You know what. -

Registered 15 years ago@rauper where does the Android app lie in all this? (ed: muttler mentioned this)
Edited by mrpon at 15:52:56 22-09-2014 -
@dominalien Not sure why you don't see them on desktop...
@mrpon Plenty of things ahead of that on the list of priorities I'm afraid! But new apps for both iOS and Android are things we've talked about recently. -

@mrpon no idea, sorry!
@Deckard1 are you running adblock plus or a different blocker? -
I use AdBlock too and I don't mind these ads at all.
I suspect only a small section of AdBlock users is plain opposed to any kind of ads, just the very intrusive or shouty ones. This is a great compromise. -

Registered 14 years agoI don't know if it is the ads but on my iPad pages jump a lot when first loading. Of course, I'm not using AdBlock. -
For anyone else having trouble seeing them, I had to whitelist all the eg.net stuff, ghost.gamer-network.net and ajax.googleapis.com before anything would show.
