No, but I probably should be.

I did see a heron get mobbed by a crow this morning.
And a rabbit on the towpath.

Will try and watch it tonight. I saw a guy casually walking along the street with some kind of raptor in hand.

I can definitely see the appeal owning my own raptor. I'd fucking love to have a Sparrowhawk or Peregrine Falcon.

I would want one that hunts pigeons and ring necked parakeets...

Get yourself a Peregrine then - pigeons would give you a wide berth.

I get the odd sparrow hawk visit my garden. They're fucking awesome. Never seen a kill yet though.

The baby black birds at work have grown massively, for the first time they have left there nests, just sat on the various planks of metal and wood. No fear in them at all. Also got new birds nesting in the shed at the back.

Cats are non-native, stinking, aloof little shits which are inexplicably adored by humans. Sparrowhawks and Peregrines are fucking awesome native birds. THAT'S THE DIFFERENCE.

Some of my favourite animals are non-native.

I lasted about 10 mins. I may have mentioned before, but I don't really like birds. Although birds of prey are a mite more interesting, I concede. Love all wildlife and usually find such progs fascinating. But as soon as hatching chicks etc come on, I zone out. :-/

    What about Scottish wildcats? Lynx?

Anyway, the Great British Bee Count is on until the end of June:

    https://www.foe.co.uk/page/join-great-british-bee-count-today

Get the free app. Mostly common carder and white/buff tailed bees in the garden this year. Fewer than last year I'd say.

We've had a lot of honey bees, but this ridiculous weather has stopped all bee activity.

I've saved quite a few bumblebees this year - give them a nice bit of sugar/water solution and that usually sorts them out :)

And that's fair enough. All animalistic behaviour.

I did actually watch a bit of it last night, there's still something very unseemly about liking nature that much.

Maybe Chris Packham's secret to his youthful looks is that he murder-rapes animals for their life force.

How young do you look, user JuanKerr (if that is your real name)

I used to look young and fresh-faced, but having a child has aged me somewhat.

Seen some huge carp. Some cruising the surface of the waterski lake and a few sheltering under bushes by the river bank. Pic to follow...

    I love me the Springwatch!

It's just down the road from me (ish), plus I know one of the cameramen and have supplied equipment to it.

Bit too much birdy stuff, but other than that, it's really helping me unwind.

Currently in la gomera off Tenerife and saw an osprey circling overhead, awesome stuff.

Just moved into a house in the Philippines that is a new build pretty much in the middle of the jungle. Unfortunately nobody evicted the previous tenants...

We have an army of ants that are very determined to walk from the back door to the front door, this in turn has brought in a few spiders which in turn have led to geckos.

I don't mind the geckos, they are pretty cool but none told me how noisy they are. Got woken up last night by two of them having a fight on my living room ceiling :(
  • Deleted user 13 June 2016 08:40:32
@twelveways I used to live in a stilt house in the jungle in Brunei. As I was a kid, I thought geckos and army ants were cool (and used to treat the ants as soldiers and set up obstacles for them :) ).

Have you tried chalk or water to put the spiders off? You'll get used to the gecko noise.

We got the ant chalk stuff and it works fine but they always find another way in, feel like a demon summoner surrounding ourselves with chalk circles :D

Been looking for the liquid stuff that they take back to their nest but can't find it here, I'm sure it won't take long for them to regroup and repopulate though so we're probably just going to have to get used to it... Luckily they don't go near the kitchen our bedroom so it's manageable.

I actually live watching the lizards hunt, saw a huge one the other day (outside).

Loved my time in Brunei. As I was a kid I had no fear and didn't realise that waking up to see orangutan's and multicoloured birds in the trees around us and seeing where wild boars had dug up in the night was all awesome. I can vividly remember a chit chat (as we used to call the geckos) on a light switch as I went out to the outside loo in the dark. Used to love the sound of the place. :)
  • Deleted user 13 June 2016 09:34:36
Oh and not 100% sure, but if they are army ants, (big column of them), then they should be heading from one place to another and should be gone after that.

Not sure what kind of ants they are, smaller than the ones we see in the UK but they don't bite.

It is really cool living somewhere with different wildlife, hoping to see a Philippine eagle but not holding my breath, saw tarsiers last week in the semi wild, that was amazing, weird cute little things...
