Be careful with "Rest mode" on firmware 2.0

It seems like alot of people, myself included, are having issues with "rest mode" (the renamed standby mode) in the 2.0 PS4 firmware.

Specifically, it's causing people's PS4's to crash - the system appears to go into standby, but the fans keep spinning quite hard and the light on the console itself simply slowly flashes orange over and over. The flashing orange light is usually what occurs when the system is powering down into standby mode, however it seems to be getting stuck here. All control over the system is lost at this point, from the controller to the buttons on the unit. The only way of rectifying the problem is to pull the plug on the system.

Once you pull the plug out and put it back again it boots up and works ok, so it seems like a problem with the standby mode.

It seems like quite a 'mixed' issue - some are saying they've got no problems at all, some have the issue. People are suggesting it might be an issue with turning off the TV before it has fully gone into standby mode.

Anyone here got this issue? I think until Sony release a fix it's probably safest to fully power down the unit rather than using 'rest mode'

Happened to me but I just put my finger over the power button for 10 seconds to force it to turn off rather than physically pulling the plug.

However they really need to sort it. As it was working without issue before.

I tried holding the power button down - nothing happened. It held it down for quite a long time too. Reading around it seems like the power button trick works for some people but not others.

Sony really shouldn't be releasing updates with issues like this in. I can overlook small stuff, but to utterly break an extremely commonly used feature which was working perfectly well before the update for lots of your userbase isn't really acceptable in my opinion, especially since we're paying for this now...

Yep happened to me too. It also scolded me for unplugging it (I didn't, I did a hard reset). I've had loads of problems with it switching itself off and on/off in the past too, TBH it is easily the least reliable console I've owned save for an ancient 360 where the DVD drive wore out.

Oh yeah, lets not forget the now standard "there's been a new patch / update so PSN has gone down" thing.

Update. Have managed to since sign into PSN. And more importantly eviscerated many Uruk, so all's well in the end.

This happened to me today. I installed the patch fine yesterday and put it in sleep mode as usual.
Used it today no problem, but found the update had turned off the setting to allow downloads to happen during sleep, so switched that back on and put it in sleep.

Later I found i couldn't turn the ps4 back on as had a pulsing orange light, was hot and could here the fans running.

Had to pull the plug and reset it, got told off for pulling the plug, but wonder if it's because it was trying to download something while in sleep which caused it to lock up?

Mine initially went into standby mode as usual, no problems.

Came back and the orange light was off as though I'd switched it off. It switched on OK, and I didn't get a message as though it'd turned off in improperly.

    Weird.

Same issue here as described in the OP, pretty much word for word. Cock it. Need to remember to turn the thing 'off' now after a year of using 'sleep'. Cock it.
