Tucker and Dale vs. Evil is a very dark comedy which subverts the horror themes, but if you like horror, you'll probably enjoy it - I did. I'd class Kill List as a horror, but personally I find it a bit too ridiculous, rather than horrific (but then I felt the same about The Wicker Man, so perhaps that's just me). Down Terrace on the other hand contains some truly scary ideas, and is well worth a watch IMO. I'll also back up Triangle, which I thought was Chris Smith's best horror, as well as his most enjoyable film. Black Death on the other hand I wouldn't class as a horror, despite containing some gore. |

Inland Empire (another Lynch film) has a scare effect that scares even more. The film is long, about 3hrs or something, and the effect of a distorted face, as silly as it sounds, I find hard to look at. Even now, when I watch the film i'm filled with dread at that moment. There's another odd scene, where a person walks slowly, then rushes towards the screen - sounds silly, scare as f--k
jacob's ladder is the king of psychological horror, i reckon. also the main inspiration of the silent hill games.
oh and kairo is a hidden gem of japanese horror. it's a bit long but there's something about it. total bleak dread.
and not a horror film, but one of the best horror scenes ever:

Registered 9 years agoYeah, Dern face from Inland Empire is one of the scariest damn things I've seen in a film. That and the diner scene in Mulholland Drive. -

Registered 15 years agoThe Taking of Deborah Logan is new on Netflix and pretty creepy. That's my latest recommendation.
EDIT: Fucking hell that is one scary ending. Any horror fan should watch this one. Also only on US Netflix.

Registered 15 years agoWell I told my sister to watch it and she just told me she found it funny. Sigh. Looks like it's one of those that can be seen either way. I personally found it terrifying. -

Friday 13th part 6 is my favourite. Massive bodycount and some crazy deaths.
Favourite slasher will always be the original Halloween. -
If you have Netflix, watch "the canal" it's done very differently. Shut cover, pretty good film.
It's not fun like zombeVers is though

Night breed directors cut is on Netflix. I always wish barker had a co director, he's so good at horror whilst being terrible.
Ahh, I didn't like Jason X. Saw it years ago, but the liquid nitrogen scene stills sticks in my er...head.
Haven't seen 6 yet, but will work my way to it. 8 was the first I ever saw, saw it as a kid so I'm quite fond of it - even though it's considered one of the worst.
Addyb, isn't the mask in your profile pic from Nightbreed? Now there's a film I haven't seen in years.
Like the second part of the it TV movie -

It is indeed. Decker from nightbreed. I do like that film. The book is great. -
If you haven't seen it, Cabin in the woods and from what I've heard, the Badadook is good too. -

It's naff as hell (unintentional pun) but Jason Goes To Hell was/is a favourite of mine - a film that all of my friends wanted to watch when we were kids. That and Child's Play. We were strange children.
I just watched Friday the 13th Part IV and enjoyed it enough to carry on with the franchise. Out of interest, what would you say is your favourite Friday the 13th film and, on the same subject, what would you ssayis your favourite slasher film?
Question is open to all. -

Registered 17 years agoHatchet is pretty good. A comedy horror that's genuinely funny and got some nice gory deaths. There are a couple of sequels but they get worse as go on.
Currently watching The Canal on Netflix. It's okay so far but that's about it. -

Good call on Black Christmas. Also nice to see the Dawn of the Dead remake getting some appreciation.
Also, everybody should watch "Martyrs". And then spend some time wondering just what the fuck it is they watched. -

I think Grave Encounters is still my favourite horror of recent times. -
Not seen Grave Encounters. Have to say, I am *really* bored of found/fake footage horror films. Rec I enjoyed despite that, but I really struggle with them. Does "Man Bites Dog" count as horror?
