I did it with az and TechX in the end. Not ideal, but the fire and forget ranged shit was invaluable. I did it in easy mode first and found ludo, which was great as well.

Problem is you don't unlock shit if you do it in easy mode.

Just faced off with Mom for the first time after 110 attempts.

Just lost out with a fraction of her health left. Had full 360 degree shots, speed up, shot speed up, multi shot, nails firing from my eyes...

    This game is f***ing awesome.

    Jesus this update.

Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.

@Murbs can't remember how long my first mom kill was but it took a while. Won't be long until she feels like a low level boss and you expect to beat her every run.

Filled out the Forgotten's postit last night and at a bit of a loss as to what to do now.

It's an okay character, took a little getting used to but it all becomes second nature after a few hours.

Spose I should just mosey around trying to find all the new items that I haven't seen yet.

Forgotten is ok, but I think a little too complicated for a minimalist game like this. What annoys me the more I play this game is the dreadful hit detection. After all those years, I haven't figured out the nature of Isaac's hitbox or if there even is one and a hit is not just decided by RNG.

Looks interesting. Like a puzzler dungeon crawler with some RPG elements. Hard to properly make out properly.

Isaac's shadow and the shadows of the bullets are the only true indicators, the hitbox is fine, it's just that it's not where his head is on the screen.

Thing is that sometimes things like Mom's foot "hit" me when there's like 2-3 blocks distance

You mean when unlocking the forgotten? They're explosive damage which has a blast radius of one to two tiles outside of the 2 tiles the foot hits.

Hm, that might have been the problem. However hit detection still seems pretty erratic to me sometimes, mostly with those big lasers (Bloat), but also simple projectiles. Add to that how spiders sometimes jump in arcs, the crazy behaviour of knockback (like pushing enemies towards you if your tear hits their back part), all that stuff. I still love the game, but this stuff can be pretty frustrating when I'm achievement hunting.

But still not as annoying as curses. Curses are imo the greatest design mistake of Isaac. They don't even make it a lot harder, they just make it less fun. They're the reason why I don't play hard mode, because you get a curse on almost every floor there.

Agreed, they should have been removed. They add nothing fun or interesting.

The curses donít bother me, Iím glad theyíre there in fact. Aside from the obviously harder challenges, I find it all far too easy the vast majority of the time anyway. Not because Iím l33t, more that after 500, maybe 1000 hours, itís usually a breeze.

I hate them all, useless and anti-fun. Curse of the Blind is just horrible

Curses are fine as they are imo, they add to the strategy in interesting ways. Like taking a devil deal with curse of the blind, do you take the gamble and leave yourself low on health hoping for a good item.
Personally I think the issue with the game as it stands now is that far too many mediocre items have been added that don't add much to actual gameplay or have any interesting synergy interactions.

I'm fine with Curse of the Blind when it comes to boss items and even the devil room. But in treasure and shop rooms the game delights in giving me the worst crap it has on offer, like Guillotine, Cursed Eye, Eve's Mascara, Tiny Planet, all that stuff that completely fucks a run unless you're very lucky and have got another item already that has a good synergy with it (but 98.2% of the time, you don't).

And there are more items that it didn't fuck me with yet, Strange Attractor, Dead Onion, Soy Milk, etc., but I'm sure it will. And it will give me Cursed Eye again, which seems to appear in every other run since the update (stumbled across it three fucking times in a recent run). So I really can't take items there anymore with Curse of the Blind. Which is really annoying when I'm trying to get all the hardmode unlocks with all characters.

There are other ways to make the game harder, if it's really too easy you can still go with Lost or Keeper. But the curses can just go fuck themselves.

edit: or when I didn't get the devil room on 2nd or 4th floor and am pretty sure to get it in the next one, hard mode usually gives me Curse of the Labyrinth next. Fuck off!

It'd be great if I could just have the added difficulty of hard mode without the curses. Add wholehearted damage from 1st floor, that'd be great. But not the curses, argh!

The way it is, normal mode being too easy is still more fun than getting curses all the time.

Curses are a minor annoyance at most. The worst that happens is you pick up tiny planet, strange attractor or some other undesirable item and you have to adapt your play, but it opens the door to synergies you might otherwise have avoided.

Exactly. Mostly played it on PC but a lot on consoles too, and I never understood the crying that the console versions don't have a quick restart button. I take the hit and soldier on regardless of what items are foisted upon me, it's all part of the fun and the beauty of the game. I'd never choose to have Tiny Planet and maybe would restart if I accidentally got it first or second floor, but I rarely do that.

The curses add something to the game, the vast majority of items and stuff empower you, it's good that some things can fuck you over. Same deal with pills.

Third time lucky. Mom is down \o/

Bloody love it. In fact it's in danger of being one of my all time favourites...

@Murbs Nice one. It's a bit good, isn't it? Amazing that noone has really tried or managed to copy the formula with a more ... accessible ... topic. Enter the Gungeon a little bit, but it doesn't have the depth.

I am currently on a massive losing streak with Azazel. He's supposed to be easy mode, but I don't get along with him AT ALL.

Azazel is easier in the early game, in the later game I find him usually harder than other characters (unless I'm lucky and get the right items, most notably brimstone).

It's a roguelite, it's basically the same formula that has kept people hooked on Roguelikes since the 80s. Practice make perfect, Azazel is easy, easy mode so pull your socks up!

But on that point, those diagonal/horizontal turrets have turned the game into hell.

I'll hold my hand up and say I'm terrible with Azazel as well. Barely used him though. I'm a bit blasť when playing this game so maybe I should just grind attempts with him until I do it. Not played the game for a while though. Trying to play the other switch games I stupidly keep buying :/

I just find having to charge up shots annoying. I appreciate how powerful brimstone is, but I don't really like using it (and, by extension, Azazel).

Yeah I guess it's the whole charge shot mechanics. As mola mentioned they aren't my favourite.

I hated charge mechanics until I realised there was a charge meter, duh. Good fun.

The circle meter is satisfying, bit jarring going back to the Switch version.
