Started playing LA Noire on my PC. seems alright but I'm constantly distracted by the constantly lagging framerate (and yes, I meet the recommended specs). Spent more time looking for fixes than actually playing the game. Guess I'll have to try to ignore it.

Was playing Destiny (addictive), Shadow Warrior (brilliant) and Hotline Miami (as good as I'd heard it was) on the PS4.

Prior to getting the PS4 I'd just started Thief on the PS3 so decided to go back to that this weekend. I was about three hours in and really enjoying it however after resuming from where I left off, the crudeness of it stood out more. Terrible texturing in places, bad sound mix resulting in a conversation sounding as though each part was recorded under completely different conditions, overlapping and repetitive dialogue, guards glitching out... I was about to ditch it but stuck at it and found myself sucked back in despite it all.

There is a lot to hate about Thief, but I'm finding enough here to like. Playing in max difficulty with all the assists and that stupid focus off and it's a decent challenge. At it's core, it's allowing me to skulk in shadows and nick stuff. If i get caught I either run or I'm dead. So it's scratching a stealth itch.

So I'll stick at it a bit longer. Nearly at the end of chapter 3.

Started Mafia II last night. Story is a bit cliché and the combat is a bit clunky but I am enjoying it. I like Empire City and it feels pretty alive, my only real complaint is that there seems to be a Police car every other block. In a game where the police will chase you if you break the speed limit, it's fucking annoying and pretty unrealistic.

Started Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition on PS4 the other night. Got Saints Row IV Remastered whatsit or whatever it is coming this week. Also got Sunset Overdrive downloaded last night as it was cheaper. And then considering picking up Resi HD.

So in terms of what I'm actually playing - one of those, although not sure which really!

Got Tales of Hearts on the go on Vita though, that one I am actually playing.

Started Saints Row 2 (PC) yesterday. I am way too late I know but this is my first attempt at the series.
Well, kinda mixed feelings about it.
    - The graphics are weird... sort of cartoon-ish, but not in a funny way like GTA games but different.
    - There are little details I find oddly annoying, like those small blinking bubbles on the minimap that show you the way to destination...
    - Movement feels odd, character moves like drunk, the car handling feels totally wrong.
    - Also, I have this strange nausea-inducing feeling when playing this game WTH is it. Haven't experienced that since GTA San Andreas on PS2... Anyone had this feeling? I read somewhere that motion blur should be turned off to remove it but I doubt it...
    - Radio stations have horrible music, couldn't find one station worth listening so far.

Anyway, a few missions I have played were kind of fun, but I am really not sure if I will persevere. Will appreciate opinions.
FWIW I have hugely enjoyed every 3D GTA from III to San Andreas, IV - not so much. Not played V yet.

Fire Emblem Awakening. Again. As my new shiny games stare at me, yearning to be touched.

The new Fire Emblem can't come soon enough!

Mostly Far Cry 4. I am finally ready to work on campaign after a lot of faffing about exploring and unlocking towers, since I appear to need to do more to access more areas of the map.

I am also dabbling with a bit of Driveclub, and some Hungry Horde on the Vita.

I wish I had more time free to start up on BF4 again too.

I LOVED and LOVE SR2. I would stick with it, although you mention a lot of things that are already not sitting well so maybe it is not for you. I think it gets a whole lot right, yes it is buggy and no that is not good enough but on the PC (I played 360) I'm sure there are mods coming out of its arse so to speak.

The Swapper and Infamous: First Light.

    Great additions to Plus.

I found The Swapper a bit confusing initially but I'm really enjoying it so far whilst First Light is definitely better than Second Son.

PC - Legend of Grimrock and Titanfall. Not sure about the latter. It's okay in short bursts, but anything beyond that it quickly grows weary.

PS4 - Farcry 4. Was going to buy it on PC, but the thought of handing my hard earned cash over to those shysters Ubisoft makes my skin crawl, so I bought it second hand on the PS4.

Just an update on black flag. I'm quietly warmimg to it. The game world is fantastic, Ive just followed the ship into the cove and trekked though the jungle to do someone in. It realises the series strengths and missions are nicely constructed around that. Ashame the core free running mechanic is still flaky as hell.
  • Deleted user 21 January 2015 16:21:49
Rather amusingly Black Flag runs a lot better than Unity.
  • Deleted user 21 January 2015 16:28:01
To be fair, Unity looks like a nice step up compared to Black Flag, visually.
  • Deleted user 21 January 2015 16:40:30
Maybe, but it runs like dogshit. It's like Ubisoft released an alpha of Unity just to grab the Christmas bucks.

That's what publishers do. If they're not releasing unfinished games, they're scaling back the project to meet the goals, or they're working on making tiny increments to last years efforts.

    Sucks, doesn't it.

You can always vote with your wallet.

I'd love to see a smaller Assassin's Creed game developed. One that focuses on a small town/city, with greater emphasis put on creating a story and fine tuning the controls. I found AC3 and AC4 to be far too big to appreciate. There's a lot of wasted space in those games.

I always do. Haven't bought a new Ubi game in quite some time and until they get their act together I never will again.

As for Ac, that series has run it's course as far as I'm concerned.

    Shovel Knight (Wii U)

I'm really enjoying this. It's certainly living up to expectations. It has been fairly challenging so far (i'm apparenty a little over half way through), but it's not as punishing as the games it's so heavily inspired by. That's definitely a good thing when you're playing with an expensive controller.

I'm also playing Fantasy Life, which is becoming quite a slog. I've also started Guacamelee, but that has been put on hold until I finish Shovel Knight. We're 22 days into the year and i've yet to complete anything!

After playing through AC II and AC Brotherhood and loving both, I've decided to revisit the original AC, which I quickly abandoned after only a few hours when it first came out. Hope it's not as horrible as I remember.

I booted this up yesterday having left it at a point I had forgotten back in November 2011 (according to the "last played" log anyway)

At the beginning of the Water Temple....might just sack it off already! But really should finish it before Majora's Mask comes out.
  • Deleted user 22 January 2015 10:26:27
The water temple has markings to help guide you this time, if I remember correctly.

I still don't get what folk struggled with in that dungeon. It felt like a stage from an early Tomb Raider game or something. I loved it!

Ah cool. I've never finished Ocarina of Time to my absolute shame so my comments on the Water Temple are based purely on what I've heard for the last...bloody hell 17 years has it been since it came out on N64?

My idea will be to use a guide and if it has markings etc then all the better for it :)

Was playing Far Cry 4, but it's basically Far Cry 3 with a few tweaks and a visual overhaul. Totally lacks imagination and I became quickly bored, so I traded it in this morning and picked up Shadows of Mordor.

Bit of brunch, then off to Middle Earth.
  • Deleted user 22 January 2015 11:47:24
@Humperfunk It's worth pursuing. I mean, I don't rate the game as highly as others, but it's still a great game. I've completed it twice and will no doubt come back to it again soon.

What surprised me in black flag is actually how well the single player missions utilise the space. So far anyway. They are more playground esq, in that the missions flow quite nicely. I'm quite surprised how much im enjoying this actually. It reminding me a bit of old school tomb raider in a way. I've only just done the mission were you find out that Kidd is invovled with the assassins. So who done black flag? Was it the brotherhood team?

I just bought Black Flag because its going for a fiver on CD keys. Played about 40 mins. Both enjoyed it and reminded me why I don't get on with Assasins creed.

I wanted a big dumb game with plenty to do. I can't stand the guards on the houses stopping you free running and the fact your assasin wants to climb on everything. Not what I tell them.

Also got Alien, Halo: MCC, Titanfall, Burial at sea and Saints Row 4 on the go. I need to finish some games.
