Yeah, FF13 isn't actually all that bad, once you get through the 50% of the game that is corridor.

@ChiefGB DF have now done a piece on the FF8 remaster and it seems that it really is pretty awful in some ways.

Still dipping into Forza Horizon 4 for some of the online challenges.
Started Hollow Knight today, enjoyable so far and there's real tension not to get killed. I like simple games, Gears of War 5 might be full of story stuff and apparently is buggy too, so I'll wait.

@Malek86 It is quite impressive how they so carefully hid such a good battle system behind hours of tedious shit. If only Cocoon was a more open-ish world and they didn't gate so many aspects of the battle system till so late in the game, it would be far better...apart from the melodrama and shit characters, they certainly were a massive step down from FFXII.
FFXIII-2 has mostly the same battle system but better (though easier). I ignored it for years due to the Eurogamer review putting me off, but really enjoyed when I finally got to it. Even the characters, which I expected to hate, seemed more nuanced and interesting than the originals' group of tedious 'heroes'. I recommend it, though you need to enjoy a bit of the old Final Fantasy villain cheesieness to probably fully get behind it.
Lightning Returns also has a fantastic (new) battle system, an all new setting to explore, and a fitting climax to it all (though the secret movie at the very end is utterly ridiculous and nonsensical). Unfortunately we are back to mainly crap characters for the little we see them. Most of the time I seemed to be doing rubbish sidequests with blocky side-characters. There are other problems with it, and it clearly is a budget title, but the battle system carries it just. I wouldn't do them all back to back though; you might start go a bit doo-lally.

My word, the open world area in FF13 is even more annoying than the 20-hours long corridors before it.

    I'm playing Mirror's Edge Catalyst

I really like both Mirror's Edge games. For all the little frustrations (like the incredibly unintuitive default control scheme in both games that feels like whoever mapped it has never played games before) they feel fresh and different enough for the concept to carry them.

@simpleexplodingmaybe I really liked both games too despite their flaws. Thought Catalyst was great.

I am currently playing DotA 2 on a computer. I like this game, a good story and beautiful graphics. But, I want to try to make money playing computer games. Therefore, I am going to bet in an online casino in Australia https://australianfreeslots.com

    Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

It's okay. The story and writing is embarrassingly bad, Lara is one of the whiniest characters in all of gaming. She's also not far off her transformation to a fucking apex predator.

I'll see it through to the end but it's the weakest of the reboots for sure.

Thought I'd try out the uplay plus free trial and give Assassin's Creed Odyssey a go. It's fantastic although I think I've underestimated how big the game is. Not sure I'll get anywhere near finishing it only having a couple of hours a night to play.

@Cadence did you manage to unsubscribe? I tried, and while it seems to have worked (got an email that said I successfully unsubscribed), the account page doesn't give me any indication that it will stop billing me next month.

I'm reading of a lot of people having issues unsubscribing, so that's a bit worrying.

Trying to get into dragon quest 11, again, itís alright but itís hard to get too sucked into it and my god the music is wanting me to tear my own eyes out and stuff them in my ears. Itís virtually the same two shit tunes on loop. Itís the worst soundtrack Iíve ever heard. Graphics are ace though and the voice acting swings between typical jRPG girls but thereís some decent voices in there too.

Dead Space 2 on the Xbox One.
I haven't played this since its original release and I'd forgotton how good it was. Not remotely scary but the combat is just so satisfying. The graphics really hold up after all this time as well. It looks better than alot of modern AAA games, both on an artisitc and technical level.
I suppose this was how highend PC gamers got to play then game 8 years ago

You're probably looking at a month or so worth of gaming. And thats if you ignore alot of the side stuff.
Its the best assassins creed since black flag in my opinion. Perhaps the best assassins creed full stop, actually

Crap no I haven't tried to unsubcribe yet. I'll have a look into that now, thanks for the heads up.

@creepiest-lizard Love Dead Space 1 and 2. Luuuurve.

Iím only playing on Switch at present, but looking forward to setting up the ps4 to try some Remnant, and revisit Helldivers.

    Currently playing:

    Slay the Spire (magnificent)
RAD ( kind of disappointing now, to be honest. Soon to be abandoned)
    Superhot (great)
    Mark of the Ninja (magnificent)
Torchlight 2 (ok, but starting to lose interest)
Invisigun Reloaded (fantastic, a Switch essential)
Risk of Rain 2 (much potential, but in need of serious patching)

    Looking forward to:
    Linkís Awankening
    Police Stories

Sinking City on PS4- Bit of a nice change of pace. It has zero hand holding and an interesting story. Think I'll probably need to find a guide for it at some point, but I've finished the first investigations on my own.

I'm hoping to see it through to the end as I find it quite nice to play. Makes a change from sports games or some of the other stuff I have been playing recently.

    Currently active list:

Fire Emblem: Three Houses - On the last couple of NG+ Golden Deer missions. It's very clear now I'm playing another route that the one I found first time around, Black Eagle/side with Edelgard is the "true end" and that the other routes are a bit of a let-down by comparison. Still a really good game, but I'm ready to put it down for a while, until all the DLC is out next year.

Gears 5 - Playing this co-op only. It's good fun, but the writing is awful. Also, it's pretty buggy, with MS's continued inability to make basic DRM systems work on their own damned OS remaining utterly baffling.

Control - In the second half of this now. Loving the exploration and atmosphere, but only playing it in fits and starts because I find the combat gruesomely unpleasant (kind of an invesion of Gears 5, where I hate the story but love the combat). I'm reminded of the old observation about the older Metal Gear Solid games (1-3), where the combat often felt like a punishment for failing the stealth. Control's combat gives me a similar vibe, except it's unavoidable rather than a punishment for failure.

Borderlands 3 - Very impressed by the gameplay so far, despite some technical wonkiness. Slightly holding myself back from diving into it too deeply for now, as I'd like to finish off the three titles listed above before this inevitably takes over almost all of my gaming time.

Super Robot Wars X - Around a dozen missions into NG+ now. Playing this on hard-mode in NG+ while also aiming for all the SR points (which require meeting special conditions in each mission) really does emphasise how X's mission design is by far the best of the three PS4-era titles. Such a pity that they devolved to "huge waves of trash mobs to grind through" for T.

Playing every single space 4X games I own (one of my favourites genres as far back as Space Empires II, I think).

So far, I've particularly enjoyed Endless Space 2 and disliked more Galactic Civilizations II and III, and Stardrive.

Now I've finally finished Horizon:Zero Dawn, next on my backlog is The Last Guardian, followed by Yakuza 2 Kiwami.
Hopefully I enjoy TLG, I'm on PS4 Pro which should help.
