@countzero99 I liked Code Vein, though it does feel very much like "anime Souls done cheap" at times. It's a bit too heavy on the cutscenes in places and doesn't quite have the sense of weight to the combat that a decent Soulslike really needs. But it has some good ideas, a neat visual style and, being at the easier end of the spectrum for the genre, is pretty accessible.

I've gone back to Battlefield V, after almost a year off it.

Played 'Season 1'to death (by my standards anyway which was about 100 hours) but was drawn to the Pacific expansion, aka season 5.

It's thoroughly good, despite the usual pro gamers who hate 5.2 patch which increases TTK which they're saying is catering to the Christmas present n00bs, and the neckbeards complaining about how some outfits are realistic for this particular theatre of operations.

The game's just good, simple as that, and superior to all the battlegrounds clones.

    Devil May Cry 5

Warning to it. Three missions in and it's starting to get interesting. Archaic design and menu system though.

Dipping in and out of GTA5 as its added on gamepass, still a great game, forgot how crappy the police AI is. They can find you easy even if you hide somewhere they can't see

    Plague tale: innocence
Started it a while ago but picked it back up, such a great game that got overlooked by so many. It shouldn't work as its stealth escort game but never feels cheap or unfair. Really great graphics for a "non AAA" title as well

Currently almost 45 hours into Trails of Cold Steel III, think I'm only about halfway through...! Played the first two last year which both, oddly, clocked in at 57 hours each but this one seems bigger!

Started Borderlands 3 briefly yesterday but want to polish off Trails first really. Also have Code Vein on the horizon, aiming to get all three done before FFVII Remake...

    Red Dead Redemption 2

Honestly thought I would hate this game especially the slow pace, so I've only just picked it up. It's so good, I'm FULLY immersed in this world and the characters. Every mission has been brilliant so far, and the music gets me every time.

Greats stuff, it is an excellent game.

I have started my first (new) game of 2020: Far Cry ND, so far it is dumb stupid fun which is all I wanted.

@OllyJ only gets better, the beginning is slower and restrictive. Once it opens up the world is incredible.

    Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order.

I'm really enjoying this. Just a refreshing and fun experience. It is a little janky and reading others opinions I can see why some have been irked by it, it does play like most other third person action adventure games that have been released in the last 5-10 years, but I have just caught this at the right time. Its does all the Star Wars bits really well, and the game has some depth to it that is similar in scope to God of War. It isn't perfect, but as new Ips go, it pretty damn good and I'm enjoying it a lot. There is a lot of good stuff to build on here too for the future. And I love that Respawn own design philosophy manages to shine through as well.

@ChiefGB Yeah, I'm in Saint Denis now and it's been amazing so far, one mission in particular gave me a real surge of emotion because it was so epic.

Riding with a 10 strrong posse to the Braithwaite manor to confront her about Little Jack Marston, the build up was insane, I've never felt such anticipation before, incredibly cinematic

Unfortunately that mission is the highlight of the game imo.

Spent about four hours yesterday trying to decide which option to take in The Bloody Baron in the Witcher. Ended up saving just before and trying both. One option showed there was a lie in the other, so that decided me. Still took for ever. My wife agreed with my final decision, which helped but showed me she had an unexpected merciless side...

Don't be too hasty in reloading saves. Sometimes the consequences of our mistakes can be more enticing than those of our successes.

The thing that swing it for me was when I dug up remains that weren't human and I thought "whatever you are you're not what you say you are you lying bastard". Plus, I'd accepted a contract...

But neither option was that pleasant.

No, it's not an easy choice. But the swamp crones, while totally evil as well (they eat kids, after all), are a known quantity and seem pretty confined to the immediate area. Whereas the tree thing was just going to go on a rampage, which seemed much worse to me.

I kinda screwed up that quest, because in my endless wandering I chanced upon the tree before I even knew about the Crones. So when it was time for the quest proper, I had already freed the being anyway.

But thinking about it, I'd have probably made the same choice. I didn't like those three uglies, and who cares about some rampaging evil monster? It will be a job opportunity for a witcher later on.

Remember Me, thanks to the little retrospective on the EG main page (yes, than thing really exists)

It's a game I've started a couple of times but never got farther than 50% through to the end. Considering it takes less than 10 hours to complete - guesstimated - that's a bit surprising but the critiques leveled at it are unfortunately justified.

The combat is just... gnn. It tries to mimic Arkham Asylum and does so pretty well on paper but the nuances make it more frustrating than anything else. Enemies go from standing around to having the 'about to attack' exclamation mark to actually attacking in a fraction of a second and do so entirely randomly. As a consequence you end up dodging endlessly just to be safe, which is stupid. The camera angle is off one quarter of the time. And so on.

Also, I'm now in a boss fight where I have to do something to finish him off, indicated by some icon. Thing is, I know fuck all what the icon is supposed to mean so I fail every time. Small things like that.

Finally, and this is a rather personal niggle, I tried to switch to French considering the dev is French (I actually know one or two peeps at Dontnod from a distant past, incidentally) but the localisation is oddly enough far worse than the English one. Speech is French but nowhere near the English voice acting and texts are a blend of both, making it all a jumbled mess.

That said, it's clearly a Dontnod game. It has superb style, excellent scripting, interesting characters and such coming out of the wazoo. I absolutely want to finish this for those reasons but I'm unsure whether I'll manage to overcome my frustrations with the game.

Borderlands 3 and I'm not finding it as exciting as I had hoped. Its glitchy and the enemies are pretty spongy (only level 15). Will persevere and see how it goes.

    The driving is shit too.
