I must be completely detached from reality. I had no idea that John Lewis adverts were a Christmas "thing", but the BBC was making a big deal of it earlier.

How much does a Penguin love slave cost at John Lewis these days?

Look into that penguin's eye and tell me it hasn't got only one thing on its mind.

Yeah me neither. I can't think of a single other John Lewis Christmas ad.

I don't get the hype but fair play to John Lewis managing to get their annual advert turned into a national event, especially during the busiest, most consumer saturated time of the year.

Christmas market in the foyer at work today. Looks nice. They can all get fucked though.

Last years was good with the Bear and Rabbit and a good cover song by Lilly Allan of a great Keane song.

You'd have to be relatively 'head in the sand' not to have noticed that the John Lewis Christmas ads are a big thing imo. it's been a pretty big deal for at least three years now.

I'm becoming less and less a fan. The few were excellent but I feel like it's pulling the same trick every time now, plus I'm not mad about them being so open in the messaging about "buy stuff". They used to be a bit more subtle about it.

That Beatles song is forever fucking ruined for me now.
Before I was even made aware of the advert I predicted it'd have a shitty twee cover version of something running in the background.

I watched a couple of seconds to confirm this was the case.

I've noticed it's become a thing, but I've got no idea why. It's just a fucking advert ffs.

I saw it earlier, thought it was ace. I like the John Lewis adverts myself; don't really give two hoots what they're advertising so long as the advert is entertaining (not just applied to JL ads).

It made me want a penguin too. Maybe I'm just getting soft.

The way that people in this country fawn over an advert for a shitty shop makes me feel like I'm living in the early stages of an Idiocracy-style societal collapse.

    Does not watching TV count?

I guess, although you'd probably have to opt out of the national press and forums such as this one as well i suspect to completely avoid hearing about it.

Have never heard about the previous ones on here. As for national press, only the BBC, which is why I saw this one.
  • Deleted user 6 November 2014 13:27:44
Well anyway, yes, you are completely detached from reality then :p

    @Tonka

    That advert I actually enjoyed.

It's not so much the John Lewis adverts I despise as the pathetic amount of coverage they receive, and the pathetic gushy reactions people have to them.
