I canít say I had particularly high hope for it, or any hopes about it whatsoever, but it seems like a bit of a crap advert. As an actual advert. Whatís it trying to say??

Buy our stuff. It shows how degenerate our society has become when an advert for a fucking shop has become an annual national event. Bring on the thermonuclear war.

Pour me a glass of scotch to enjoy before the atom bomb hits. I agree though that people get so enamoured by a tool that effectively uses aspects of psychology to get you to buy shit, it doesn't enrich your life in any way.

I think people are being overly harsh and cynical. The fact it's an advert probably isn't news to most people. Remember that for most of our history all art was commissioned by the church, the state, or a wealthy patron with an agenda. Art can be paid for and it can serve as an advert for god or anything else and still have value. It can be both an advert and enjoyable bit of fluff. I personally generally like them and don't feel the need to rush out to John Lewis and buy something.

Yeah but going from your explanation, you've already proven yourself to be an intelligent individual and not the kind of dribbling mong this shit is aimed at.

Nothing says Christmas like a weird CGI Elton John.

I suppose it's quite good, as long as the message they are going for is

"Don't buy your kid a piano this Xmas. If you do they might turn into a massive wanker. Go to John Lewis instead"

I thought you would all be moaning but it would actually be ďokĒ. But then I watched it and it was actually complete shit. Nice job marketing!

Still pretty disgusting, but not up to the usual level of manipulative saccharine bullshit they use to peddle their wares at this time of year.

I liked it. Not as soppy as they tend to be and with a somewhat good point

Plus, the poor deepfakes have me a little hope that we're not all doomed. If John Lewis can't make a realistic fake in their Christmas ad, then no one can.

Or maybe that's what they want me to think.

I dont mind Christmas adverts these days, but it's weird how much of a talking point the Joh Lewis ad specifically has become.

It's not even an old tradition, it only became a thing in the last decade or so.

Who said they did? Enjoying the sport of commenting on them when seeing how misguided and off the mark some are (this being a prime example) is ok though I think.

He's in the Snickers and as well so I'm guessing he needs money.

Itís a big year for him. His last ever concerts and theyíve made a biopic as well. Does sort of feel like he might be secretly about to die.

What thatís got to do with John Lewis I have no idea. FWIW I actually kinda liked the ad, but it may be because I was expecting to hate it like I usually do.
