Possibly an Octavia Butler short story, but I can't find anything on Google. Woman alone on a spacecraft, the purpose of which is to head off in an advance scouting mission and plant waypoints so the fleet behind can jump through wormholes. She finds she's not alone and has a clone or a child or something onboard. There's also a subplot about a giant planet-sized alien (think it's described as looking like a giant bubble) that manages to convince them to plant a waypoint next to another planet-sized alien so the wormhole destroys it. It's either a short or a novella, not a full novel. |

I have a similar one, actually - kid's comic/graphic novel/whatever about Vlad the Impaler (him as a vampire). Art style was incredibly loose and scribbly, and it was all sorts of messed up (at least for a kids book). -
