A lot of his darker stuff got cut due to WB getting cold feet.

Until we see him for more than 5 minutes is hard to judge

I don't think additional darkness would've helped. I quite like that they went for something different and that they aren't sticking to what has gone before, but that did always mean it'd put a lot of people off.

I really didn't like him but understand there wasn't really anything un-jokerish about him.

Every time i try to describe how bad he is, i can think of a comic arc where he has shown those traits.

    It is terribly frustrating.

edit: I am not talking about his look, he was a bit too 90's gansta for my liking (I believe 60's suit and hat would have better suited but look doesn't really bother me)

If he can't mange 5 minutes without absolutely stinking the place out then it's pretty easy to make a judgment on the character.

I was expecting to like his Joker, I thought he was going to come off as much more of a Joe Pesci-type scary and nasty figure compared to the previous versions. As it turned out he was pretty toothless gangster who had a very straightforward relationship with a girlfriend he just wants back.

No real sign of the sadist I was expecting, he was just very empty as a character.

well, I don't understand why everyone is so concentrated on the Joker, I think Leto could have done it better it they would have let him being darker, at least he contributed to the movie.

what about the rest of the cool characters? Captain Boomerang had no effect on the movie at all, a few oneliners and a few sips of beer and that is it? lame and boring.

Killer Croc? lame and boring, could have not appeared in the movie, no effect on anything.

el diablo, lame and boring, then gets interesting, then becomes some Monster, then whatever

Asia Girl, still don't know jack about her, boring and lame

Rick Flag, stereotype badass Military guy, could het swapped for any actor and it would have not mattered.

the witch: still don't have a clue what her deal is, rather have her on the other Team bringing some dark shit into it while Messing other bad guys up.

Also, you have this interesting Crew and what happens, nothing they follow some Special Forces around who are doing their rainbox six Thing, while the acctual Crew you want to see in Action does pretty much nothing.

Will Smith and Harley are cool, and do carry the movie, but even they could have done better if the Studio would have made them darker.

I think the Joker is the least Problem of the 182 Problems this movie has. But yes, the first 30 minutes were great! then that supid mission started.

such a missed opportunity it hurts, because I know this could have ben fantatsic.

Because out of all those characters the Joker is the only one anyone gives a shit about?

I liked the part when the monster attacked and when the woman wore shorts.

Bit of an impossible task though to cram decent enough exposure for every single character, and an engaging plot, into a sub 2 hour flick.

The joker wasn't necessary though. There was both too much of him, and not enough. The character needs to be front and centre, not a side plot to a bobbins story.

Not going to dissect the movie too much, partly because I lost interest throughout most of the second half and it was just on on the background. I thought the first 45 mins or so was enjoyable enough, margot and will made it more enjoyable for sure. Joker was ok I thought, I was fully prepared for it to be shit but it could have been worse.

I certainly found it had more going for it than bvs but reading back here maybe if I had sat fully focused in the cinema (as I did for bvs) it may have fared worse.
I found this started strongly then lost its way when the generic action stuff happened, whereas bvs was the reverse I guess, so so dull till the last generic 30 mins or so.

Bought on uhd as I thought the colours would pop etc, one of the worst looking films in uhd but some of the primary colours in the disc menu looked nice ;). Sadly as the extended cut is blu only I'm not sure if I can sit through it again for some time.

I think I disliked this so much because I was hyped for it after how much I liked Assault on Arkham and the trailers looking great. I had very little hype for BvS having never liked Superman, so I preferred BvS.

It was obvious from the first trailer that they were attempting to clone the Guardians tone.

A spectacular failure on that front.

Would definitely take a live action version of that

If nothing else it gave us this, which is a perfect anthem for Harley Quinn... and 2016 in general :)

Bit long @ 35 minutes, but this video goes into why the editing of Suicide Squad is shite

(Quite a bit of that is story problems as well, but it all fits in together really)

Leto's Joker was the worst film adaptation of him by far. Everything about the character was wrong, from his gangsta night club owner persona to his stupid fucking hand tatoo.

I read Leto stayed in character throughout the whole of filming which made me hate him even more for some reason.

Sometimes I think people think the joker has only ever been one or two types of characters?

Still waiting on him to get more than 3 minutes screen time to judge.

If he utterly stunk the place out in 3 minutes why would you think more screen time would help. Everything about his performance was terrible.

I agree, he was utter shit. I do realise that the Joker comes in more than one form but that doesn't mean I have to like it. Nicholson's joker is different from Ledger's but they were both great versions. Leto's one looked like he had ran through his wardrobe.

I get that Nicholson and Ledger had more screen time but Leto would have been shit over the course of any time frame.

Also. His tatoos were fucking wank. Especially having the word "damaged" on his forehead.

Really though? Like he needed to pop out for some milk on his day off set and went down there all stupid facial tattoos and shiny teeth and green hair? He'd be driving back every day, screaming down the freeway burning rubber at every stoplight?

The problem is that they weren't, that only occurred after the trailer went out.

Yep the company that made the trailer went for that tone. The original film was darker

Not financially. It's made more money than GotG. Trailers were brilliant too, imo.

Anyhow, Leto has teased that he's back in Joker garbs. Can't be for Sirens of Gotham City as that's a long way off. Could well be in Affleck's The Batman.

Still not as the lead villian though, you'd think he can't be too happy about that. I wouldn't be surprised if it's an arkham based cameo in justice league.
