It's obvious where Raimi wanted the series to go from ED2 onwards. Army of Darkness is full-on slapstick. The TV series, at least, puts some of the gore back. Evil Dead 2 didn't even have red blood for the Deadites, ffs. Evil Dead was NEVER a particularly scary film series, especially the sequels. It's always been tongue in cheek. That's what Raimi likes, see also Drag Me To Hell. Edited by anephric at 13:12:15 08-11-2015 |

Registered 16 years agoThere's a certain deep fear that goes all the way back to childhood that the first Evil Dead film did manage to evoke. A sense of a barely perceivable malevolence in the dark and unseen places that permeates them entirely.
You'd just say haunted. No horror film or horror genre can really stand the test of time without hooking into and stimulating a certain fear that a lot of us have. Playing it for laughs is fine but Drag Me To Hell has been practically forgotten already -

Edit: Found it
Edit 2: just watched the 1st 2 episodes and thought they were both brilliant. Both were really funny as well

One-liners galore and some rather nifty demon-work is proving to be a treat. -

Registered 14 years agoI think this episode proved that the series can be good without necessarily involving loads of action and slapstick. Over the moon with it as a whole. -

Registered 17 years agoThing I really didn't like about this episode: Showing the evil force following them. It's really the one thing that should remain unseen. Other than that it's been brilliant.

Registered 18 years agoAfter a great start it's slowed a little the last two, hope it picks up cause Bruce is awesome. Lucy Lawless has to be the slowest pursuer ever. -

Hopefully it's a sign that's she's more than just a really long dragged out misguided revenge plot.

Registered 16 years agoLoving this so far but man as these episodes short. It seems just as I'm getting into it the credits roll. -

Registered 15 years agoI quite like the shortness, it makes it feel like I'm watching a comic and it means there is no padding.
It's probably not going to win any awards but I like it a lot for what it is, 25 minutes of silly gore with likeable characters and lots of fun one-liners. -

Also, whoever is picking the tunes has some smarts. Was a surprise/delight to hear Death on the soundtrack. -

Registered 15 years agoThat diner scene o_O
So much pun-infused gore. Latest ep seems almost subdued in comparison, even with Lawless getting her kit off. I'd also remembered the Spartacus commentary where they talked about how they ran out of blood through the first season......they're certainly got it stockpiled for this.

Registered 15 years agoheh,I like the silliness, the movies were silly too. -
well it's fair to say that I wasn't expecting that (episode 8)
overall one of the weaker episodes I'd say.
