I'm off work today, and I'm ashamed to admit to that I've spent part of the morning watching the Godawful (but oh-so cute) 'All I Want for Christmas'.

I now have the urge to move on to another - Gremlins, me thinks.

    What is this madness?

Yes. As I have repeatedly been saying over the weekend, Christmas can't start until December.

My mrs wanted to watch elf and home alone this weekend, the crazy fool.

Any time of year is a good time of year to watch Die Hard.

It was released in the summer in the UK.

    And just to be clear.

Love Actually is NOT a Christmas film.

I can't have it. Not in a grinchy way but if Christmas lasts for a sixth of the year, it stops being special.

When the first door is opened on the advent calendar you can start feeling festive. I don't want to be sick of Christmas by the time it arrives.

Is it Christmas Day? No? Then no. And even then it's a stretch.

Mrs Hermit, who has semi retired pending our move to Cornwall and full retirement for her, asked me if there were any Christmas films on Netflix or TV she could watch. I very helpfully showed her Xmas 24 and she now spends a large chunk of time each day watching made for tv Christmas movies.

It's one month until christmas eve today. Hardly the "OMG christmas all year round" situation the #GrinchGaters are trying to spin it into.

Given that it's been the greyest November on record where I live I'm going to treat myself to some glögg and pepparkaka tonight and laugh at all the hardliners and their miserable lives.

    Exactly.

I think Channel 4 were showing The Grinch in October! That's just wrong.

i spent a day watching this last year. it's a living hell. i watched one film that was "It's a Wonderful Life" except the angel was a rapper, and another that was the complete plot of home alone but kevin was two telepathic dogs.

    harrowing.

What Christmas movies are acceptable all year around? Cali mentioned Gremlins, and yeah, I can easily watch that any time not just at Crimbo.

    Any other suggestions?
  • Deleted user 24 November 2014 14:26:20
The only acceptable Christmas films are National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Bad Santa and Die Hard. If you watched anything other than those then you're a pathetic excuse for a human being.

'A Christmas Story' has become one of those 'how the hell did I not see this until only a few years ago' Christmas classics for me.

I suppose it's on every year in the US - but it's criminally undershown (new word - deal with it) in this country.

Yes, unless it's Die Hard. If so, go wild.
