Was stupidly walking along texting with headphones in, before I knew what was happening, two guys on a moped slowed down next to me, grabbed my phone and sped off.

It's an Android phone, so my first response (after calling the police and the operator) was to change ALL my passwords. Google location data shows where they were up to the point I changed my google password, and now I think maybe I shouldn't have changed it so quickly. Also should've installed the paranoid security software I kept procrastinating about.

Mostly I'm furious. And I've got no insurance.

Remember kids: don't walk and text!

You didn't get the reg of the moped?
    No. I'm an idiot.

For some reason my baffled brain's response was to chase the moped and shake my fist at them, instead of getting the reg number, or noticing the colour of the moped, or the guys' helmets.

    I'm an idiot.

You should still be able to track the phone despite changing the password?

I don't think so. When I changed my Google password it logged me out of everything on my phone, so Google isn't tracking it anymore and now the provider have locked the phone and the SIM.

I've written it off now tbh.

Activate the remote controlled antimatter charge, that'll teach em.

... how so not a standard component?

Someone else being a cunt doesn't make you an idiot.

Even if you had the moped reg or a crystal clear image of the guys, it wouldn't make much difference in the long run to be honest.

There's a joke about Liverpool and stealing somewhere, but I'm not going to be 'that guy'. :)

Seriously though, that's a shit thing to happen. At least you've made sure they are locked out of everything ASAP though.

My friend had something similar happen not too long ago, but he had one of those apps that uploads any pictures that are taken to another account. Long story short the stupid dickhead who stole it took a 'selfie', which was promptly shared around Facebook and the culprit quickly named and shamed. Even stupider was the fact that the guy who stole it was recently out of jail on tag, so he swiftly went back inside to finish his sentence.

I'm exactly the same though. I think 'Oooh that's a cool app. I'll definitely have to download that in case anything ever happens' before forgetting all about it 20 seconds later.

Sorry to hear about your phone I assume this is the location history you've tried? https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager?u=0

Could you not lock it instead? That way you would have been able to still track it?

Don't have much experience with the Android Device Manager.

Did have the avast! thing on mine for a while, but reset my phone an never bothered even looking at ADM or anything like it since.

Nice that you can remotely do stuff with your phone now. In case of events like this. But there should totally be tracking services attached to hardware so you can still see where it ends up after keeping your data safe.

You don't have the iPhone 5?
With fingerprint ID, you can auto lock it and could have tracked it longer. Android pfft! :p

You can do a whole lot more than that with Android if you have the right app :p
I can remotely lock my phone, wipe it, send messages to it, track it, set off an alarm, take photos, record audio and get a recent call list. Plus if someone fails to unlock my phone three times in a row it automatically takes a picture of them and emails it to me along with their location.

@Bowzer43 I use Cerberus. I'm sure there are probably others which do similar though.

Proper shit thing to happen. Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. I was talking to the missus and someone asked me for the time, went to check and they just swiped the phone from my hand. I just remember thinking: I go towoprk everyfucking day so I can buy and have nice thinga, only for a coupleof cunts to take something that doesnt brlong to them.

Glad you're ok though mate, it could alaway be worse

@Stranded87 thanks that actually looks pretty good and only a couple of quid for 3 devices. Think I will give it a spin and put it on the wife's phone as well.

Yeah I had my phone nicked a few years ago. Thankfully it was just a shitty old Nokia. Unfortunately rather than just swiping it from my hand they decided to give me a black eye first. All for a shitty old Nokia.

Unlucky mate, there are some lowlife scum on the streets.

This story did prompt me to buy and install Cerberus though, I will enjoy putting the shitters up them if they steal mine.

Think I might do the same. Kinda got lax and forgot about getting something set up.

Thanks for the prompt, faux-c. Sorry it took your rotten experience to remind me.

Cheers for your sympathy guys. When it comes to mugging experiences, I got off really light, so I guess I should be thankful for that. Also hopefully I'll stick to my resolution to be much more careful in future.

Now I just need to try to find a decent cheap phone to put my new SIM in whilst I run down the remaining 18 months of my contract
