    Cheers for your sympathy guys. When it comes to mugging experiences, I got off really light, so I guess I should be thankful for that. Also hopefully I'll stick to my resolution to be much more careful in future.

    Now I just need to try to find a decent cheap phone to put my new SIM in whilst I run down the remaining 18 months of my contract :cry:
    And this is why you get insurance! Most banks do it these days with your current account (via an upgraded package - breakdown cover and shit included) for a very minimal fee, though the excess is normally about £75-£100.

    Does insurance actually ever pay out on this sort of thing? Always thought stuff like protect your bubble was a con.

    Sorry about your phone FC.

    I've had a look at insurance since it happened, and I'm not convinced it's worth it, unless you somehow get it free.

    £100 excess for a refurb phone after paying £10 a month for two years doesn't seem like a great deal.

    It does. You obviously need to report it to the police and get a Crime Ref. number, which the insurers can then look up to make sure you're not bullshitting and etc.

    I've had two phones stolen (pickpocket cunts) and the bank insurance I was with always had a new phone to me within two days.

    Its much easier to just put it on your house insurance surely. £50 excess but you're covered for any money of phones/tablets you take out with you...unless you're one of those dickheads who takes an iPad out with them to take pictures!

    @faux-C Natwest's Silver account is yeah, £10 a month, but I get my moneys worth out of the Tastecard membership alone (lots of 2-4-1 in resturants and shit like that), and the mobile phone insurance is pretty top.

    Makes more sense to me than paying the mobile phone issuer the same price and not getting any additional benefits.

    I'm with HSBC. Don't think they do anything like that.

    Yar. They don't. :c

    As Buzta mentioned, house insurance? Sometimes the policy does cover it.

    @THFourteen

    I have phone insurance as part of my current account. When I smashed in the screen on my phone it was £25 excess and they repaired it Inc all new casing. The phone looked as good as new and was really easy to sort, just one form on the nationwide website.

    I have the account for the travel insurance,  so the breakdown cover and phone insurance are nice extras.

    First Direct do for sure and you don't even have to pre register your phone with them.

    Nationwide do it for £10 a month. I think these schemes include car breakdown, holiday insurance and other stuff, so it's not just for the phone.
