Yup, Paul W. Anderson is making another movie, Death Race 3000, a re-make of Death Race 2000. This could actaully work, I mean the original was a "so verry bad it's good" type film so hiring a crappy director would be the first step into having the sequal be the same thing. Moviehole clearly doesn't like the idea but I think Paramount is onto something. Why the hell Tom Cruise would want to be involved with this (even if it's just producing) is beyond me though. Registered 17 years agoGet Sylvester Stallone and David Carradine in it again. Just like the original.
Still, could be worse. Could be Uwe Bollocks directing it. After all, they did make a game based on DR2000 - only a small burp to make a subsequent film based on that... -

"One good film does not a director make", or something along those lines.

Registered 17 years agoIf they made Paul W Anderson and Uwe Boll do all the stunts, and they died in a huge fireball early on, and the rest of the movie was directed by an actual director that knew how to direct, then maybe I would watch it.
Those hacks make Renny Harlin look half decent.
My hatred for them is a burnign pain in my...no, wait, that's a touch of heartburn from too much coffee. I really don't like those buffoons though.

Registered 18 years agoWhat's so bad about Ole' paul?
I agree he is not a great director, but what movies have been really mindtsunningly bad then?
Resident Evil was quite alright. Aliens versus Predator wasn't superhorrible either. Sure they're full of cliche's and are not the best films evah, but what do you expect??
And Event Horizon is pretty damn good in parts.
Unless I have missed some films that were much worse. -

Registered 20 years agoWatched Resi Apocalypse at the weekend and expected the worst. Turned out to be very enjoyable - use of surround sound was excellent in places and certainly added to making the wife jump and throw wine around the place. Cheesy film based on a cheesy game plot - but still very enjoyable. -

Easy! Let's not get carried away! That's a hell of a thing to accuse people of. -

Registered 17 years agoOh yeah, Event Horizon is a decent, engaging sci fi film. Until about half way through that is, when it turns into a huge pile of unwatchable schlock.
And the only thing wrong with AvP is everything. You'd think he'd have maybe watched the predator films first, for a start. The sheer wasted potential is saddening. Now a less-hacky director doesn't get the chance to make an AvP film. -

Registered 18 years agoWhat I find really baffling is how many people seemed to find it scary?!?!
It was - during the above average first half - at best eerie. Then it descended in to an utterly tragic farce without any logical progression or indeed conclusion.
One of the biggest movie disappointments of all time for me. Although Polanski's Ninth Gate runs it fairly close.
/expects protestations about the overall validity of NG's ending -
