Alien: isolation. brilliant game and probably my goty so far. Was not expecting such brilliance. Easily the best movie game of all time, they just 100% nailed the universe of alien. The only negatives are the last hour or so are mostly total shit and the ending IS FUCKING TERRIBLE! LIKE MASS EFFECT 3 BAD. The story should have ended about two hours earlier. Pretty much everything else is 10/10 though, from the audio to the visuals. I also totally loved Amanda Ripley, it is a glorious thing playing a female lead who has a strong character and isn't eye candy. 9/10. |

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons.
Simplicity done right. No inventory or anything much game-like, puzzles that are really just amusing use of a unique control scheme, simple but poignant story, not padded at all. 10/10 -

There's something about Sonic 3 and S&K that I just can't get on with. I have no idea what it is, if it's the weird design of Sonic, the uninspiring levels, the increased clutter of it all, but I can never get into those two like I can the first two. Still, I've finally got around to finishing it after about 20 years. It's fine, just underwhelming.
6. Or 7, I'm not sure. -
I had more fun with sonic 3d blast, the natural sequel to sonic 2 imo...although most people seem to hate it. -

For me it's just Sonic at the peak of his powers really, a height he'd never reach again

As mentioned in main thread, really good although some annoyance with the alien and how its a bit cheap when it comes to some of the deaths (had a major game breaking bug but I just reloaded the mission 15 "hard" save) Its great its not a game like all the other action FPS of the alien franchise. But I think they need to work on the alien AI. The ending was a bit naff

Good. A nice change of pace. Good length, game doesn't outstay it's welcome. A couple of odd solutions and some frustrating stealth segments aside, it's worth a play. Well put together, funny, some good popular culture riffs and yeah, good.

That was a very short game. If it came out for £40 today there'd be an uproar. 1 hour 4 minutes to finish. It is, however, full of super happy fun times. Simple, but perfectly executed and utterly stupid. Also Space Michael.

Very nearly a 10, and certainly the best game in the Alien universe. The atmosphere is perfect, it looks stunning, the sound is incredible, the alien threat is, for the most part, terrifying. The Working Joe's fit well into the Alien canon, and their story ends up being one of the most compelling parts of the game.
It's as close to being in Alien as I ever want to get. The moments of awe, in the opening few hours, occasionally exceeded how I felt playing Bioshock.
But it's not perfect. It is too long - the last few missions feel like overkill. By the end I was tired of backtracking and fixing stuff; it began to feel like a cheap way of building tension, and the final mission is pretty uninspired.
It can be a bit rough around the edges: the context sensitive controls were a bit too sensitive - in the heat of the moment having to jiggle around to find the hit spots was frustrating.
But the positives far outweigh the negatives and it's my favourite game of the year.
Now I need to summon the courage to play the DLC! -

Nice point and click horror game. The house its set in is suitably creepy whilst still being believable and the sound/music creates a superbly oppressive atmosphere.
Unfortunately its the puzzles that I felt let it down a little bit. Whilst they're all logical (and for the most part quite easy) the objects used to complete them are too frequently tiny, and hidden in very dark conditions with nothing obvious to set them apart from the backgrounds/general clutter. It just made things frustrating to be visiting the same rooms 5/6 times and checking the same piles before discovering items almost by accident. -

Registered 9 years agoSonic 3 & Knuckles was my favourite of the series. I got Sonic 2 bundled with my Megadrive, went back and played Sonic 1, then got Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles on release. By far my favourite when combined, though I'd pick Sonic 3 if I had to choose a standalone title.
Ended up using the save states and links ups to eventually have all the super characters (Super Sonic, Hyper Knuckles, whatever Tails was) etc. Absolute masterpiece for my child self, though I doubt I'd get the same pleasure playing it now.
The snowboarding sequence and the light trails you zoomed across in the Death Egg Zone still stick in my mind. About as cool as cut scenes got back in those days. -

Spent around 35 hours on this, been a while since I got lost in a game.
As everyone no doubt knows by now, it's basically Assassin's Creed crossed with Arkham Asylum's combat, but obviously set in the Lord of the Rings world. But it absolutely works on every level. The whole Army and Nemesis system etc is a great addition and very deep.
Got 80% of the trophies in the end, might go back to the others when the DLC arrives, but highly recommended.

Launch Base Zone was garbage. The boss music was killer though. -

I get a yearly urge around this time of the year to play some classics. Played via emulator, headphones and Dualshock 4 on my phone. It's as solid, atmospheric and lovely to look at as it was 20 years ago. The soundtrack is still just sublime. Still as trick in parts but found it easier to complete, maybe because I'm used to the boss' movements and attacks. Probably took about 3-4 hours if that.
9.5/10. -
@Rhaegyr Launch Base Zone and Ice Cap Zone were pretty awful. Carnival Night Zone has grown on me in recent years, but that's about as much as I can say about Sonic 3. -
Alan Wake PC
Stunning use of light and shadow, very stylish and well produced. Interesting story presented well slightly repetitive but I enjoyed it
8.5/10
