The flood still piss me off. Still had a blast playing through again and will probably go onto Halo 2 next. -
Finally finished Days Gone, after getting a fair way through on the PS4 Pro I had to abandon due to the old PS4 getting screamingly loud..so much so, that I had to put it out in the hall.
A good excuse to restart again on the PS5 and I absolutely adored it. Stunning in places, and a game where you never seem to feel OP; hordes are a genuine challenge and can fuck you right up if you get cocky.
In 60fps it comes alive; if you haven't played it and love open-worlders, you kinda owe it to yourself. It's free on PSN now as well I think? -

Yep - twas the first. It's also a spoiler. Also, IIRC Jason Graves used a note progression of 'D,E,A,D' in the main theme.
Was it the first that had the first letter of each chapter spell out a secret message? Always thought that was a nice touch.

Abandoned this years back at the Sister Friede battle, but fortunately a friend of mine who knows a ridiculous amount about the series came in to help me through that and the rest of both bits of DLC.
Some stunning areas and fantastic boss fights, but I NEVER want to fight against Midir ever again! -

I'm on the final collectathon to get the last few trophies, but I have my doubts if I'll go back to complete that now that MH:Rise is out.
As a 'free on PS Plus' game it was OK. I liked the variety of the different race types. The story is crap and the characters are forgettable. But, who plays a racing game for the characters.
Perhaps my main criticism is that I was able to clear that game in my trusty Audi S5 fully upgraded. There was little to make me get some of the top end cars until I then wanted to hoover up the trophies - Koenigsegg Regera is where it's at.
I guess I'd give it around 6.5/10 -

Registered 18 years ago@MacReadysChessWizard Agree with this. I'm about 90% complete and just when you think you're OP for the hordes, you get absolutely savaged.
Really enjoyable game. Haven't played anything else since I've got my PS5. -

Not as good as stick of truth but a fun little RPG noneless, completed all side missions (except couple collect items ones) and the DLC at around 30 hours. The perfect length for an RPG for me, no grinding or stretching by repeating things.
The story does get a little old by the end though with alot of oh but wait moments. Honestly thought it was the end section about 5 times before it went off to somewhere else. Enjoyed it though for what it was, a middle tier RPG with intresting time mechanics. Just make sure to play on higher diffculties for most of the game, otherwise wont need consumables and combat will be way to simple.
7/10

I`m going to give Respawn the benefit of the doubt with this one and give it a 7.
There are a lot of good borrowed ideas in this game, but some of it is poorly executed.
As a foundation for a series though this gives me a lot of hope. -
@Sharz I heard FBW recycles a lot of the humour of SoT, practically identical jokes in places. Is this true?
If there's one reason to play a South Park game it's the humour (though SoT was pretty good as a game too) so if that falls flat somehow... not so sure. -

Registered 16 years ago@JoeBlade Kind of. There are a few recycled jokes, to be sure. I think it's more that FBW uses more material from some of the later seasons of the show, which (whisper it softly) weren't quite as good as the early stuff. -

I can see what the author was going for, and it's very impressive that he managed so much with so little help, but by the end I wasn't enjoying this much.
The combat's really weak, and only really serves to drip out currency and put you off when you're trying to work out what he wants you to do. Puzzles seem to have only one solution of most of the time and by the end it's just 'make things change colour'. Signposting isn't very good, and the lack of a map is annoying given how samey many of the areas look; this led to times where I solved something and just felt stupid and annoyed. It's very easy to miss important powerups like the one that lets you destroy weaker enemy spawn points. My sense of direction isn't amazing so I genuinely had trouble remembering how to go between places. There's no fast travel system but there are unlockable jump pads which have you soar between areas - an impressive bit of scale as you fly right up into the sky, and can see most of the world in one go, but frustrating to actually use as it's not clear where they lead.
But it's still a 3 because I really like the idea and for the first few hours it really was very enjoyable. The lack of a map, poor signposting and the fact that puzzles pretty much all seemed to have just the one solution may have dampened things towards the end, but when it was a bit more linear I was having a lot of fun. Looking at what the dev is saying about how he wants the second game to go, it really could go either way - particularly in regards to what he wants from the map. If what he means is 'you have to mark it all up yourself but we still count what you've picked up' then great - all I wanted was to know what I wasn't able to pick up earlier, and preferably have some idea of how much of an area I'd cleared, but if it's like the one ingame now where it's just an unlabelled picture with some lines on it showing transporter routes then that would just be aggravating.
Oh yeah, there's humour in there too but it really didn't work for me as it's all just 'thing look like thing you know but in game instead'. Catchy end theme though, shame I had no idea what the lyrics were as they were all in German. -
@uiruki The lyrics are basically "why did you choose him, I have everything to impress you, I'm rich and smart and witty and perfect and everyone's in awe of me, why didn't you choose me?" -

That seems really harsh to me. I thought they done an incredible job with this. In terms of Star Wars lore, they nailed it, touching on so many different elements (the jedi purge, the Inquisitors, wookie enslavement, the stuff on Dathomir, the stuff on Ilum). And it does it all without feeling like cheap fan service. It's all integral to the plot.

I guess maybe I just appreciated it so much due to being a big Star Wars nerd. -

Registered 16 years agoNah, seven is about right (and its still a good score). The story is decent enough (although YMMV on how annoying you find Kal and the woman jedi. The witch is pretty good, though) but you dont just play the plot. The game itself is a bit of a slog at times and too janky to score much higher. -

Registered 16 years agoKatana Zero - Really surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Just had a crack while I was waiting for something chunkier to download and ended up putting that on hold while I finished this.
Its one of those side scrolling, lo-fi, one hit death things but it has a *lot* of story. Maybe too much. The action crashes to a halt at the end of every level while you stroll around, scrolling through pages of text chat.
Other than that, looks great, sounds great and plays great. Its basically a side scrolling Hotline Miami.

Registered 17 years agoI played through it a couple of months back and yeah, it's super stylish and polished. But it came across as trying too hard to be another Hotline Miami tbh, and the story didn't resonate as much with me too. Also I just don't think I'm as keen on those type of instadeath trial and error games nowadays. -

Ive completed the main storyline through once but nowhere near finished. There's a ridiculous amount of replayability and extra content in the game with extra hits always getting added.
Does a perfect job of letting you do it your own way or being guided by story opportunities and pulling off the perfect hit is exhilarating.

Me either, really but I did like the way they did it on this. The 'every death is a trail run' thing was pretty cool and to see the replay without the time powers at the end made you feel pretty badass.

Compelling, mind expanding and surprisingly joyful.
Not sure a number can do this one justice but 9/10 from me. Also, like an oasis in the desert for anyone suffering AC Odyssey/ Valhalla/ Ubi burnout.
Bugsnax
Warm hearted, well voice acted, slightly rough around the edges fun.
A strong 7/10 for this one. Played it on and off in between other things and didn't feel any pressure to see it all - refreshing. -

Registered 16 years ago@MrZappa My impression of Bugsnax was that it was well-intentioned, but very, very rough at the edges. In the later stages, it also felt like there was an extra layer of depth missing - the later 'snax don't really get any harder to catch than the ones in the middle of the game and the same tricks keep working.
I did suspect it might have been rushed out in time for the PS5 launch. -

Registered 3 years ago@Rogueywon yeah, that sounds plausible for sure.
I caught about 55 bugsnax and finished Chandlo’s side quest plus a reasonable sampling of everyone else’s before focussing in on the end of the story. It’s had a few patches that have tightened aspects up but I felt like the rough edges were part of the charm (other than the loading between areas which I found oddly jarring).
I have the feeling that my overall enjoyment may have been diminished had I played lots more but it was fun (and funny) while it lasted. And being 'free' on PS+ didn't hurt!

18. Carrion - PC - 3/5
Firstly, if you have Game Pass then take this as a 4 or even 5 - it's unique, has some fun technology and doesn't take too long to get through. Spend an evening on it, it doesn't waste your time and it's not like anything you've played before. If you don't have Game Pass, then this is the kind of game that justifies it.
If you're coming from the position of actually buying the game, it's a 3, I think. For all the unique main character and its amazingly simulated movement, it peters out at the end and ultimately you feel too weak in the final encounters. It does pay off, though, and it's still worth a go.
Get a month of Game Pass, get this done and play through some other stuff. Seriously, it feels made for it. Just have a go at slithering around the screen and firing out tentacles. Really interesting and fun.
