Don't know why there isn't a thread about this, it's out on general release at the end of the month, but I got to see it tonight at a premiere night showing in Bristol.

Good fun film, has fun playing with Bond style spy film tropes whilst still doing its own thing. The biggest production failing is some of the CGI in places is blatantly so, they obviously didn't have quite enough budget to do it justice, fortunately it doesn't detract from the film where it's needed.

I will leave with one comment: "Why yes, Princess, that offer is certainly acceptable."

Well, it pays homage to them, but doesn't get into parody/spoof territory; in the film's universe the Bond films exist as something they can refer to, along with several other secret agent films/shows.

So, has anyone gone to the early preview showings, tonight?

I think its pretty obvious why there isn't a thread about it once you watch one of the trailers.

But that may just be me.

I'm sure I saw trailers for this month's ago, so long ago that I thought it must have come out already and that they were now advertising the dvd or something.

Doesn't matter who changed it once it becomes accepted in everyday usage. Don't be a dinosaur jabbo.

Don't make me link to tvtropes. It's late enough as is without anyone linking to tvtropes.

You do realise that you wrote that in the thread about it?

As to your opinion of the trailer, well, that's all it is; everyone's got one and they're not all alike.

Why must I exist in the one universe in the multiverse where Colin Firth is a film star?

Millar is a genius, really. He writes and publishes film pitches that sell by the bucketload, so even if a studio doesnt pick the series up, hes still made decent money on comics.

The Secret Service was so blatantly written for the screen, its untrue. It contains all the rags to riches tropes you could ask for. My Fair Lady for Spies.

I posted a comment in the last movies seen thread but didn't notice this thread before. I completely agree with beastmaster.

Two days after seeing it I'm still surprised it's a 15.

@jablonski I think you might want to apply for a job as editor at IGN:

    http://uk.ign.com/articles/2015/01/30/kingsman-the-secret-service-review

In Kingsman: The Secret Service, director Matthew Vaughn once again proves that he excels in taking well-established -- one might even say tired -- genres and tropes and reenergizing them with his patented blend of wit, reverence for what has come before, and hyper-violence.

I can't be bothered watching it, but could somebody let me know what this controversial ending is please?

Barack Obama's head gets exploded (along with a bunch of other people), and a Swedish princess offers the hero bumsex. Which part of that is controversial depends on the viewer, I suppose.

It wasn't the ending that the reviewers, in that video, had a problem with, though they were a bit taken aback by the Princess' offer; their biggest problem was with the church scene.

Mark Kermode had a big problem with the ending.

    Was curious, is all.

Yeah, the church thing was, for me, the most uncomfortable part of the movie by far.

And then you find a reviewer who does get it:

Admittedly, it does kinda help that she's bloody cute, too.
