Registered 16 years agoI don't think you can say there is no point banning a UID - there is clearly a reason for doing it for EG. Making the poster have to come back under a different guise and tempered approach would be a pain in the nuts for said poster. Let's not get into who deserves and who doesn't deserve, but purely from a neutral standpoint kicking a username out has merit.

I don't know why he was kicked out, and my point wasn't about any particular person - but if EG felt he had gone too far (whatever that line was) then there is merit to kicking him out because he isn't here posting right now, which was the point of it in th first place. If he comes back under another ID at some point it will be pretty obvious it is him without about 5 posts. I would guess they will not throw him out immediately but wait to see if he breaks the EG "rules" again.
What was the merit in kicking deckard out?

Registered 16 years agoThe depiction of the vermin in Albert Square never fails to make me laugh/despair. It's like the writers have never met actual people before and God help them if they ever try to write teenagers.
And if you are middle class in eastenders, you are either going to get endlessly mocked for being stuck up or dragged down to their level and be working on the car lot before the end of the year.
Absolutely laughable shit written and produced with all the care and craft of someone packing biscuits on a production line.
It makes corrie look like Shakespeare by comparison.

Can you clear up something for me LetsGo, you did migrate to this site from mumsnet, right?
Its all down to taste, I love Eastenders but I hate Game of Thrones. I can't be arsed watching flying dragons or medieval fights.
Or watching some bloke make meth from a caravan.
But I like watching soaps as, although its fictional and usually very far fetched, there is some reality in it.
I find Game of Thrones dull, Breaking Bad boring and Homeland dross.
I like Eastenders, sometimes Coronation Street and I am quite fond of casualty.
Soaps are some of the most watched programmes in the UK, so popular they have their own awards voted on by the public.

But is it? I am not a fan of soaps, but you can appreciate that the drama veers from excellent to poor. That the quality of acting is equally as good or bad. Or how subjects that or often considered taboo are approached in such a way that they become a topic of open discussion. Judging society, entertainment and philosophical quandris in mathematical terms that only suit your own perspective is really the cop out argument of those that treat themselves as intelligent whilst being just part of a different herd.

Registered 18 years agoWatched it when I was a kid in the 80s, it was vaguely (and I mean it truly in the loosest sense of the word) realistic in that it was normal folk going about their business. There were a few standout moments like the Baldwin affair and the pub burning down. Standout, because these things didn't happen every other week.
From thankfully the little I see of it now, it has a much larger cast, everyone shags everyone in their peer group at some point and there is zero consistency in characters bar the sexless old folk, and the concentration of crime/explosions/rape is so high they'd send in the military. All a consequence of, what, 5 or 6 episodes a week? It was tolerable when I was a kid, Monday and Wednesday, that was it. Then the Friday episode appeared alongside Reg Holdsworth and muchos sharks were jumped accordingly.
Brookside was the worst for the increased schedule. In it's very early days it was clearly a stab at Thatcher and made some pretty good statements re politics/life at the time. Fast forward 15 years and I seem to recall fecking Ebola (or similar) striking the Close that wiped out half the cast, an obvious wiping of the slate to introduce loads of new characters. -
Best thing in a soap was the airplane crash in Emmerdale. -

Christ, if ye think Corrie and the likes are bad, ye should tune into "Ireland's # 1 soap", Fair City. it makes the acting and writing on display in the English soaps look Oscar-worthy. -
