Cities Skyline EG Review FORUMITES' FEEDBACK Three forum members have rated the game as follows. General feedback in the thread has been overwhelmingly positive. Registered 16 years agoI actually think it will be better than Simcity 4 from everything I've seen, also building into it the ability to mod it means that even if it's not quite there at launch there's going to be some enterprising folks who will quickly make it better. -
Release date is 10th of March. Available for pre-order with a few bonus building types as freebies. Definitely waiting for reviews before deciding whether to buy or not. -
I'd like the old Impressions city-builders to be given a spruce up. Ceasar III was a great little game. -

Registered 7 years agoYeah I really hope this is good but I am not going to pre order like simcity don't want to get burned twice. -
Those games were more resource chain conversion games as far as I remember. Good games and perhaps a golden age for city builders. That age sadly seems to have passed now. -
@CyberAres
I'm still angry about Sim City. If I hadn't bought the digital version I would've burnt it! I can't believe a game could make me angry but the last Sim City somehow managed it (and I'm a very easy going person). -

Registered 16 years agoI still don't understand how you can release or even comprehend releasing a city building game that falls down on every level at simulating a city and yet simcity (2013) exists.

Registered 8 years agoThanks to this thread, I have stuck this on my watch list on steam.
I've got too many games to play at the moment, but hoping it will be in a Steam sale later in the year, when I'll pick it up then. -

Registered 12 years agoI would love a good city builder, Cities XXL is out too but that seems to be rather bad?
Hopefully Skylines will be the city builder salvation everyone is waiting for! -

Registered 16 years agoI was in the beta for the first cities XL, that wasn't a good start. Game engine had memory leaks that left it unplayable after an hour, a resource trading system you had to use or your city would quickly fail but kept breaking so your city failed anyway and they wanted to charge a monthly fee to play the game. It also didn't ship with any public transportation and they said that was for paid subscribers.
I wouldn't trust the cities XL people, ever. The people making skylines however made cities in motion 1 and 2 and both of those were solid at least and the second one was a big improvement over the first. -

Registered 14 years agoThis is looking pretty good. Definitely something to look forward to after the SimCity debacle. -
My current feeling is that it'll be a decent, solid game along the lines of Cities in Motion. Will probably have various rough edges and other issues but it doesn't look like the piece of crap that Sim City was. As a fan of the genre I'll be satisfied with that. -

It strikes me as a true city builder rather than a traffic simulator to be honest. I'm pretty hopeful.

CiM was flawed in some ways (limited in scope and a bit, well, dry) but it - esp. the second - was very solid and polished IMO.
Incidentally, quill18 released a YouTube vid on Cities XXL a week or so ago and he wasn't forgiving of it; apparently it's almost identical to the previous ones and is still plagued by the same issues (most of which the devs had promised would be gone in this version)
Coming from a fan of Paradox games - which tend to be very rough around the edges - that's saying a lot. -
@JoeBlade
I meant similar to CIM in quality, not so much gameplay. But yeah, definitely looks promising. -

Registered 14 years agoJust watched a bit of this on the PDXCon stream.
Overall it looks very solid, the districts system with independent policies is a really nice touch, and being able to name citizens.
Noticeable issues were a few graphics bugs (to be expected), and that the engine supports up to 1 million individual citizens per city. Any more than that causes problems apparently.
Having city space many times the size of the pathetic 4km2 that SC allowed is nice, but be prepared for the cities to be far more sparsely populated, just because of the the way the buildings are laid out and the chunky look of the streets. Everything looks like a miniature set up close and I really like the style.
It may not be perfect, but I'm pre-ordering. -
So it turns out that the game isn't that expensive. £22.99 on steam for the standard version and £29.99 for the deluxe version.
Various bonuses are available:
Pre-order bonuses for the standard edition are:
Dog Park
Bouncy Castle
Merry Go Round
Basketball Court
Botanical Garden
Deluxe edition pre-order bonuses are:
The 5 items above plus:
Arc de Triomphe

Eiffel Tower
Statue of Liberty
Brandenburg -
Just pre-ordered the Standard Edition from Green Man Games using this 22% off code:
CLOUDA-NTSURV-GMGW22
Paid £17.94 instead of £22.99 -

Registered 15 years agoUhm. Will have to buy this.
So my laptop is basically broken. The ones I can afford sport nVidia 860M's. Any opinions on whether this will be enough for this and games like this? -
Min specs are:
2ghz dual core cpu
3gb ram
Nvidia 8800 512mb or ati hd 3850 512mb
Obviously you will need to lower the graphic effects etc if running on min specs.
A detailed FAQ about the main game features is at:
http://www.skylinescity.com/cities-skylines-faq/ -
Only a couple of weeks until release. I believe that the dev's plan is to update and add features to the game via dlc. I'm not a huge fan of dlc but it can work well when done right and reasonably priced.
Gameplay videos that I've watched make it look like a very solid game. It doesn't look wildly exciting but appears to have most of the features you'd expect from a city builder. -
Yeah, Paradox are good at supporting their games long term and I'd say the dlc for their core products is usually fairly good, and often on sale soon after release anyway.
I believe that Paradox are only the publisher though, so the dlc may differ. I'll be happy to buy dlc if the base game is decent as it's been so long since we've had a good city builder. -
Yeah Paradox definitely have one of the easiest DLC models to accept. In one of the streams last week they were emphasising that Colossal Order and Paradox are on the same page in terms of the DLC plans.
I've pre-purchased this, and really looking forward to it.
