    Although I haven't officially joined the EGJam (yet), I'm still working on a game. But as others are experiencing, I'm having to refactor and redesign quite a bit of code.

    Currently prototyping boosts and mines

    Finding the energy is proving the most difficult part at the moment.

    Yeah, he's pretty good at explaining things. I used his Your first Game Maker Game series to learn the basics. Good stuff!

    Also Tom Francis' Make a Game with no experience series. I found that very helpful when I was starting out.

    rm2kdev has good GM:S and Unity tutorials

    Heartbeast does excellent tutorials for GM:S too. I ended up getting his book for Christmas (although don't tell my wife I haven't needed to use it... She'd be disappointed)

    Arghhhhh. I don't know if the Mac beta of GameMaker has issues at the moment but having refactored all my code to get the timing perfect I thought I'd do some work on it using my Mac but now the timing seems worse than ever on a far more capable machine.

    Now I don't know whether I need to refactor it all again or just put it down to early beta teething problems.

    So last few days put some attack "wave" code in there. The idea is that aliens have a random formation, then a certain attack wave and then go back to original formation and then another wave etc... Each wave will be some kind of algorithm. Right now I slapped in totally random movement as a wave but other things should appear soonish. Every time aliens go back to this start wave, difficulty will increase.
    Aliens have very basic animation and they look rather simple. More work on that for next update, together with some particle code.

    Strange... you using VS? Normally it should warn you about stuff like that.

    GML generally won't care about that though? I imagine if you're compiling using YoYo Compiler it will, but otherwise I would have thought it'd be OK...

    I tested the layout of each screen on the Speccy and started detailing it with actual tileset.

    Spent far too long this afternoon on some code that should, as far as I can tell, work... But doesn't do what it should. Can't figure out the problem.

    So going to leave it alone for a day and try the rubber duck method.

    Shamefully I haven't got hardly anything done in my project - I'm blaming being in the middle of a house move but really I could have found the time :( next week will be a write off as well but crossing my fingers for a last minute surge of motivation

    Yet again, my project has been halted due to shitty test code that somehow became part of the core engine. I fear I'm not going to have any kind of working model by the end
