By way of Yahoo News, Jeffrey Lapin, Chief Executive Take Two, has confirmed that GTA3 and GTA: Vice City will be heading to both the Xbox and GameCube. Commenting on the recent success of ‘Mature’ videogames, Lapin revealed that the next title in the series (GTA: San Andreas) would be released in 2004; so we’re expecting a ‘pre-e3’ announcement/slip similar to Vice City. Found on ActiveXbox. Good news for non PS2 owners, although id be more excited if the next GTA title was all formats, ive almost completed vice city on my brothers PS2, and ive finished GTA3 on my PC. If they update the graphics for the new consoles then i would probably be tempted into buying GTA3 again for Xbox, it runs like a dog on my PC. |

Registered 19 years agoThe only reason this rumour is going around, is because Sony's exclusitivity deal with Rockstar expires at the end of 2004, so everyone assumes that all the GTA3 games will be released on every format under the sun at that date.
By then, I suspect that everyone who wants to play a GTA3 game will have, either on the PS2, or the PC.
What would be nice is if they released a compilation of GTA3, Vice City and Sin City on the box and cube. -

Registered 20 years agoThat would sound quite tempting. A 3 DVD box set or something. Maybe put the price up there at £60-£70 and pouint out you're getting 3 games for the price of 2 (all best selling) and maybe you'd have the time to enhance the graphics in 3 and VC.
Of course I doubt it'll happen and thanks to the late but better PC editions I'll have played through 3 and VC soon (PS2 just too expensive and I can play on other peoples if I notice a must play exclusive) so it'll just be the third game that's new.
Hmm, quite looking forward to VC on the PC. Hopefully it won't be quite such a dog as 3 was. Stupid renderware, crappy visuals and framerate. I don't spend stupid amounts of money on my PC just so good games can come out with uselessly inefficient engines that can't handle detailed graphics and fsaa/af at a resonable framerate. -

Registered 19 years agoDid GTA3 PC really run that badly for everyone else?
My brother had it running at a playable rate on his Athlon700 with a GF2 MX and it ran like a dream on my Dads AthlonXP1800 with GF4mx. -

Registered 20 years agoMy problem was not that it ran that badly, it's that it didn't justify what settings I had to use.
Even with the latest games like Unreal2 and Generals I can play on max detail at 1024x768 with FSAA and AF (turing off AF helps U2 become ultra smooth and so I've done that)
GTA3 looks aren't as good as U2 or games of that calibre yet I have to turn off FSAA and AF to maintain that smooth framerate. I tried putting the settings on a milder stress level (view distance not at max etc) but I still can't enable these important IQ features in GTA3. Maybe people who play without any of the latest IQ settings won't have noticed but I remember a lot of people at the time that it was released complaining that on high spec machines it ran like a dog and didn't look incredible. With the games released after it that look much better, draw even more objects, and so on and run much better I just think that VC needs to be coded for the PC and not just ported as quickly as possible with a dodgy engine.
>My brother had it running at a playable rate on his Athlon700 with a GF2 MX.
Note I can get U2 or UT2003 to run on a 600MHz Duron using the integrated nForce graphics (about GF1 level) at a great framerate but only by missing out on a lot of eye candy. I'm talking running at its full potential, best looking settings. -

Registered 20 years agoOn thread : This is about as likely as Gran Turismo appearing on the PC
Off thread : The PC version of GTA 3 ran fine on my pIII700 with GeForce4 128mb video card. First thing you absolutely positively HAVE to do though, is switch the "trails" off because it looks like a pig and plays like a pig with trails on.
Aside from that the PC version was fine, but needless to say the PS2 version was better purely because you don't have all that arsing around just to get it to run.

Registered 19 years agoI've yet to hear that Vice City is to be released on X-Box & Cube. Though I thibk the next GTA is going multi-format. Vice City looks different on the PC! And u can record action replies or something!!! -
Just got GTA3 (PC) out of the archive to give it another playthrough before VC lands in the PC.
I must say that every time I play it I'm impressed with how much fun it is. Considering 90% of the gameplay is cut straight from the original GTA and the engine looks ok but isn't anything to write home about you must say it is one of the best executed games of our time.
Mmmm, VC looks great from those screenshots and videos out so far and playing a bit on the PS2 only makes the yearning grow. Having a hard time waiting the 2 weeks left. Must not cave in and start playing through the missions, leave it for the PC edition which doesn't come with 'make Shivoa's hands bleed with annoyingly bad controller' setup.
