I quite liked AICO. Not a groundbreaking work, but a decent self-contained 1-cour. I've seen much worse in recent seasons. Last Hope was indeed a total trainwreck, though.

Agree some of the "Netflix Originals" branding is a bit cheeky. Little Witch Academia has that label, which really seems to be pushing things a bit. That said, what we don't know is just how much of Netflix's cash makes high-budget shows like that possible.

Turns out Iím subscribed to Crunchyroll now.

I watched Goblin Slayer and itís very nice. Interestingly, some things arenít available in the app but are in the web browser on the computer. Like How not to summon a Demon Lord. Itís also very nice. Yes, Iím basically going through Rougeyís controversial show list.

I also started on S2 of Attack on Titan. I loved S1 and am finding this a great watch after the initial adjustment to the new situation.

    @dominalien

I think you need to go on settings > Video Preferences and select 'Show Mature Content' on the web browser. Had to do that when I couldn't see some anime when I was using the app on PS3, so I'm guessing it's the same on mobile.

Yeah, that was that, thanks. There's also an identical option in Manga Preferences, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Girly Air Force ticked all the right boxes for me seeing as I'm flying planes in AC7 right now. Ep. 3 is better than 2, but it has the potential to disintegrate into nonsense any second now.

Gotta point out this week's Kaguya-sama episode, because Chika's dance number in the ending shows some tremendous animation skills. Doesn't even look like it's using CG, rather it's all drawn. It must have taken some serious time adn effort to make.

@dominalien The account's been shilling for essay writing services a few times over the last week or so, though the relevant posts have been deleted now. Guessing the random, tiny posts in other threads are to give it a veneer of legitimacy.

It looks rotoscoped, really. The movement of the dress is sublime.

The show is extremely chaotic and the first episode gave me a headache. I had serious problems following the subtitles with all the on-screen mess. It's grown on me, though. I like.

Anime I am enjoying watching so far:-

Shield hero - itís is actually really good
Reincarnation as a slime - I just keep watching even though I am sure I shouldnít.
Sword art online - I am sorry Rougey, you were right. This series has some really nice art but man, it feels like we have everything and nothing are happening at once and I donít know if I can be bothered to watch it most weeks.

Oh and if it counts RWBY, another weird one, I feel like my enjoyment of this is tapered due to it being on the rooster teeth player and is constantly interrupted with ads.

@Graxlar_v3 To be fair, SAO:Alicisation has exceeded my expectations so far. Admittedly, that's not saying a huge amount, as my expectations were calibrated very low. I haven't hated it. But it could really have done with snappier pacing.

Making a single arc of a show like this into a 4-cour is absurd. That makes it as long as Blood+, most Gundam shows or both seasons of Assassination Classroom combined. I'm not sure a single arc of a franchise like this can carry off that kind of run-time.

My biggest problem with it so far is that it wants me to give a flying fuck about Eugeo, a bland-as-hell character added for this arc and promoted to joint-protagonist status. I'd actually rather see more of the "real world" stuff, with Asuna and the rest of the old cast, but while that content's been decent, it's spread really thin.

I also wish we were shown more of what Asuna is up to. Not really sure why Iím supposed to care about a bunch of artificial Ďfluctlightsí.

@Rogueywon yeah, I think I am with you Eugeo is such a nothing character I think he annoys me.

I do miss Asuna, the real world stuff is fine and I like her being a bad ass but I kinda wish she was in game too.

Rumours now of production problems with SAO:Alicisation. We're getting a recap ep next week, then at the end of the current cour, the timeslot is being used instead for a re-broadcast of old Monogatari episodes. Might have been the plan all along to split the broadcast into two chunks of two cours each, but that's certainly not how it was communicated (and the late substitution of a repeat of an old show into its timeslot implies something is going wrong).

That's becoming a common problem lately. More and more anime is made, but many of those productions simply don't have enough of a budget.

I only just realised that a second season for Dragon Maid was announced the other day.

YES! Was literally losing hope it would never happen.

@FrostPan Yeah, it's good news but not a huge surprise. The first season was a decent commercial success and there's apparently a lot more source material to be adapted.

    @Ror

Yeah I heard the second cour is even worse. I've only seen like the first five episodes of the first cour and haven't been back to it since. Gutting Studio Pierrot messed up yet again after the terrible Root A one.

@FrostPan I even managed to enjoy Root A! It was all over the place, but I still managed to get some enjoyment out of it. :re is just a mess.

I mean, I'm still going to watch the second cour, because I'm committed now, but still. Whew.

On the plus side, it has made me want to read the manga instead.

Thoughts on the anime I'm watching as we are over half way through the season:

    Promised Neverland
I've just started this and now up to date. It's been a great watch so far. Love the atmosphere of the show, and the unnerving scenes they've shown so far have definitely given me the chills.

    Rising of the Shield Hero

Another show I've started during this week. The beginning of the show was awful isekai bollocks, but thankfully quickly becomes really interesting. The shield handicap is an interesting premise. You definitely root for the protagonist because of the unfair advantage he is faced and the royal arseholes that feck him over. I haven't seen slime for weeks now, as I'm holding it off until the whole season is finished, so this show will tide me over nicely.

    Mob Psycho II

Show has been consistently great, with some moments of excellence. The latest episode in particular I really loved how they wrapped up a particular character's development.

    My Roommate is a Cat

A really pleasant show that doesn't seem to be that popular, but I've been loving it since from the first episode.

    Quintessential quintuplets

An enjoyable watch. The harem is gradually unravelling...

Slime - still fun, still ticking along nicely.
Dororo - so far amazing, probably just behind Neverland in the season. Two-cour so lots to look forward to, but this darker modern take is sublime - someone's been adding the '69 version on YT and the comparison is stark, but brillantly done.
Mob Psycho - it's good, but still lacking that something special to elevate it to spectacular, bar the sakuga a few episodes ago. As good as the Reigen background was, it feels too much like a sidestep.
Kaze ga blah.....Run With The Wind - the 'classy' choice, and only now building up the hype as the race begins in earnest. Solid as ever from IG.
Kakegurui◊◊ - the gambling has never made sense, but reactions are fun.
Watashi ni Tenshi ga Maiorita! - still watching this. I have no idea why. Some comedy around the obsession bordering on creepy, but yeah......why am I ?
Ueno-san wa Bukiyou - the other unsettling show, and I think I'm laughing at how far they've kicked the boundry of taste into oblivion, and then the over-sexualisation smacks right back. A guilty pleasure ?
Domestic no Kanojo - well, best OP fight me, and we kept watching because it was pretty good. Then Ep5 happened, the filth appeared, and harem-time is growing closer. It was going so well, but that suppository took shit too far.
3D Kanojo - I've watched it thus far, I'm finishing it dammit.
Shield Hero - eh with the Spice & Wolf turn it's taken, but eh. Fun for a tea-break.
Price of Smiles - the surprise still, lost a little steam, going to be a rush in the last few eps I feel.
The Magnificent KOTOBUKI - the plane porn is still great, the world is intriguing, everything else is shallow as hell. Girls doing stuff, problems, better aircraft squads lose, girls save day. Every ep so far.
My Roomate is a Cat - I still find this repetition from the cat PoV as annoying as a Stargate time-loop episode, and kinda lazy, but it knows exactly how to hit the feels spot. Damn you.
Piano no Mori - I love these classical shows (Nodame ftw), but the horrible CGI still plagues it. Panning in 3D around the concert hall with a 2D crowd bleeurgh. Gran Turismo trees looked better.
Boogiepop - 27th March for the OST cannot come quickly enough, and if it wasn't for Neverland, this editing would be the best this season. The whole overlapping of characters, the backwards timeframe, the unsettling stop/start of music throughout. Not my usual cup of tea, but I'm impressed.
The Promised Neverland - top story, shot composition, directing, a sublime OST, and hell, even a few OTT reaction faces. It's got it all, and stands out as a great as long as it keeps up. Ongoing manga leads me to fear the worst.

Dropped Monononokean (couldn't take Ashiya's VA any longer), and saved up Kemurikasa/Kemono S2 for a rainy Sunday binge.

Probably the busiest season I've ever had !

I'm really liking the Wanpanman manga at the moment. I thought the "regular-looking dude nonchalantly destroying terrible monsters with one punch on the way to the shops" gimmick would get old pretty quickly, but 50 chapters in and it's still funny as fuck.
