Just seen that there was a leaked video that shows the start of season 2 of attack on titan. Should be on YouTube still. Hopefully an official announcement isn't far off.

Rumours of Spring/Summer 2017 at best for AoT. Kabaneri has been blamed for the delay, but there's been chatter that WIT Studio were struggling to adapt the manga in a suitable framework - as someone who doesn't read the manga, I gather it's more exposition than action heavy and there are concerns it won't match the impact of S1.......

Yet, there was a shitstorm on /a/ last night with the latest volume, despite being nowhere near the basement.

Latest rumour info states 2017 at best.

The post-anime-S1 Attack on Titan is headed into trainwreck territory. It's being turned into the usual neverending Shonen-junk, because it keeps the cash-flow going. To be honest, once the shock-factor wears off, the first season isn't that great anyway (pacing problems and a tendency to substitute shouting for emotion), so I suspect an S2 might be outright bad.

Kabaneri is ok-ish. It's derivative as hell, but it generally manages to be entertaining and it doesn't - so far - have AoT's massive pacing problems.

The irritating thing with this current season is that two of its better shows - Macross Delta and Kuromukuro - aren't available via legal means, and the former likely never will be.

Unicorn is very pretty, isn't it? I skipped the OVAs because of their release schedule (it's no fun having forgotten what happened in a previous episode by the time the next one releases), but am watching the TV adaptation. The problem is, it isn't very much fun. They try to load too much "significance" into every line of dialogue, so it comes off as a bit trite and ponderous. The recently-concluded first half of Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans was a lot more fun. Here's hoping they don't trainwreck the second half when it airs later this year.

I don't normally read Manga's (no time. To the little time I have to read, I have other books of greater priority), but I was so enamoured with S1 of AoT, I started to read the Manga online.

As others have hinted at, it goes downhill pretty badly. S2 becomes essentially a much poorer narrative of the conspiracy story found in Full Metal Alchemist.

Really hoping the anime follows a different path.

Trailer for the new Berserk series

Doesn't look good. Looks almost okay in some stills but the animation is a bit wooden. Bad CG animation, basically. And the effect they've used for line-hatching shading just looks shoddy.

Recently subscribed back to Netflix. Watched the whole first season of Code Geass again. Loved it as much as I watched it first time. Brilliant show.
If you still haven't seen it, do yourself a favour and watch one of the best anime shows ever.

It's a shame they don't have the final season of the show. Not yet anyway, or probably won't since Netflix has the tendency of just having the first season of an anime series (ala Tokyo Ghoul and Psycho-Pass).

Think I'm going to watch Black Lagoon next.

That's been on my to-do list for a while, actually. Same with Tokyo Ghoul after a mate was raving about it. I must get around to watching some of these soon. Now that I've finished the Steins;Gate anime I can start a new one.

Kill la Kill moves very fast, and there's always a lot of text on-screen. It can be a bit difficult to keep up with subbed. I need to get back to it, I think I only got up to ep 7.

Gurren Lagann is absolutely fantastic, agreed.

Kill la Kill is alright, ish. Bit too close to just being straight up porn for my tastes mind you.

Yeah, t'is a bit, uhh, suggestive, but it does have that same manic energy that Gurren Lagann had. From what I watched it wasn't as good, though.

Anyone seen Your Lie in April? (it's available on Netflix)

Watched it all recently. Thought it was a bit overrated (a bit cliche and predictable), but nevertheless still enjoyable. Still would recommend. A really nice poignant anime. The ending is really good, I can't stop thinking about it. :(

Watching Kill la Kill atm. I almost dropped it but persisted with it and enjoying it so far, about half way now. I did start watching Gurren Lagann before this but I will go back to it once I am done with the former.

Kill la Kill certainly has an interesting style. Crazy energy. One of the earlier episodes had me go all 'WTF LOL' on the craziness that was happening in it. In regards to the fan service, I don't really mind it just as long I feel it does not affect the pacing and flow of the show. Which is why I absolutely disliked High School Of The Dead. That show had constant padding of unnecessary fan service at every given opportunity, which made me stop watching the rest of it.

HSotD was ruined by the fan service. The manga had none of it, but for some reason the studio didn't think it'd sell without panty shots every ten seconds.

I loved HOTD, but yeah the fan service was just unnecessary. It had such a good atmosphere, and that really harmed it. Still, I loved it despite that.

As for KLK, must get back to that. After Gurren I was expecting to love it to bits, so ended up buying the collectors edition blu rays for all three parts. Cost me a bomb and I've only watched seven episodes /o\

I finished watching the Steins;Gate anime recently, to recap the main story beats before 0 comes out. It's... a mixed bag. I wouldn't love the story nearly as much had I watched the anime first. And the subs are really, annoyingly, inconsistent too.

I got a Crunchyroll sub recently after getting annoyed with how Netflix only seem to have random seasons of anime. I've so far finished GATE and Re:Zero. Both pretty damn good. I love the concept of fantasy monsters versus tanks in GATE. The ground hog day concept of Re:Zero was really cool too. Both series suffer from being based on new material though. There's lots left unexplained and unexplored. Hopefully, they'll both get follow ups when their respective source material catches up.

I started No Game No Life as a bit of a break (only 12 eps) and it's a bit weird. Eye-searingly beautiful but very strange.

Yeah, that's the problem with Netflix. For some anime they don't have the rest of the seasons. Code Geass, Tokyo Ghoul and Psycho-Pass are such examples (actually not having S2 of Psycho-Pass is a good thing; really disappointing compared to the stellar first season). Thankfully, it's only just a few.

Anyone who has Amazon video service, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is a great watch. And probably the only good one on the service, since their anime library is very scarce.

Might start a new series tonight, as I need to get through some of my unwatched stuff. I can't seem to decide between Eden of the East, Darker than Black, Ergo Proxy, or restarting Kill la Kill.

I think I'm leaning toward Ergo Proxy.
  • Deleted user 22 September 2016 09:05:02
I enjoyed Ergo Proxy, but it did drag on a bit in places... The second season of Darker than Black can probably be skipped too imo. The first was great, second not so much.

Currently watching One Punch Man (two episodes in) and I'm absolutely loving it! First bit of anime I've watched since Kill la Kill and I think I'm getting hooked again.
Short episodes and snappy pacing are exactly what I seem to need right now. I've got 4 regular shows on the go at the moment and just can't be bothered sitting down for an hour to watch one, but an episode of anime is easy to fit in without having to commit a big chunk of your evening to it.

Ah I think I'm going to try Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress once I'm done with NGNL, I totally forgot I have amazon prime as a student freebie.

Is one punch man on any streaming service? I absolutely love the manga but haven't seen the anime available via any legal means.

Yeah, I was really excited for Ergo Proxy when it was coming out on DVD, and just never bothered to watch it for some reason. I did hear that about DTB as well. Hmm, dunno. Still undecided.

Yeah, I had a sub once upon a time, but it was just constantly buffering for me, so I cancelled it. You can watch some shows free with ads anyway, so I did that for a couple of things.

Code Geass has been on the list for a while. But it's a long list. Will have a look at that site later on.
