Still watching: -Berserk (a huge improvement over the first cour, finding it's feet now) -AoT/SnK (decided to read the whole manga last week, tired of waiting) -Seikaisuru Kado (the quiet little gem, good mix of scifi/politics) -The Royal Tutor (less boys love, more perfectly pitched laughs) -Kabukibu! (Chiayafuru meets Rakugo meets high school club trope, but interesting background) Ready to drop: -Eromanga Sensei (as soon as it gets pervy rather than funny, nope) -Sakura Quest (still treading that thin line, and doing nothing new) -Alice and Zouroku (well, that felt like a finale at Ep5, no? No idea where it's headed) I've kept Granblue and Zero Kara Hajimeru on the backburner to binge watch later, as the first few eps were generic as hell, bar the former's artstyle (airships !) and the latter's script by what I've heard. Think it'll be better to zip through when need be. But yeah, still feels thin for my tastes tbh. Still found time to fire through Fam The Silver Wing over the past fortnight seeing as the BRs showed up really cheap. Not the best extension of the Last Exile universe, but AIRSHIPS ! The Russian influenced jet pods are a particular fave. |

Registered 16 years ago@oldschoolsoviet I wasn't the biggest fan of Fam, though I think the original Last Exile might just have set expectations too high. It seemed to spend a bit too much of its first half treading water. By no means a bad show, though.
My current anime-with-daily-exercises show (the 24ish mins of an anime episode fits fairly well with my evening 25 mins of cardio in front of the TV) is No Game No Life, which is one from my back-burner I missed when it first aired. Been pleasantly surprised by this. I'd dismissed it as just another genre show at the time, but it's more unconventional than I'd realised, plus actually funny in places. -

Registered 17 years agoMost recent episode of AoT S2 was nothing short of amazing.
I love how such a critically important reveal and a build up for 4-5 years was initially done so casually, almost as a backdrop conversation whilst the others were talking.
It's great for me because I intentionally stopped reading the manga at this particular reveal, so everything from here on out is new for me (well except the royal family guff, which they're keeping to an absolute minimum).
This episode also typifies why I generally don't like reading mangas; music. I think a large part of AoTs success is the amazing music (already listening to S2 soundtrack at work), and you just don't get that when reading the manga. -

Haha, I really enjoyed that. It was certainly opposite to the usual set up, and I thought it was clever, especially as the flashback added extra content to the character's initial response.

If you've held out this long, you're better off just waiting for 5 more episodes till it concludes and you just watch it back to back.

Saw the name on the front and thought "wow, a blast from the past !"
Have to say, TRT was a tad.....underwhelming ? There's certainly a beauty to it, and lil' splashes of Ghibli charm here and there, but it's definitely more 'European' than 'anime', and kept reminding me of Tintin for some reason. Would still recommend it to others despite my personal niggles with it.
And yep, AoT certainly improves with the score. The Vogel In Kamfig remix that kicked in just got the hairs up on end, and after spoiling myself with the manga there are plenty more moments to look forward to.
Spent the past two days now firing through the Chihyafuru manga, seeing as any continuation seems scarce despite the slew of sequels for everything else. I'm beginning to wonder if this is the start of a very slow descent, seeing as Gangsta is something else I'd like to catch up with given the abrupt ending it received.....I blame you lot. -

Registered 15 years agoWell, what better way to spend a flu-filled, rainy Saturday than catch up.....
Started with Koe no Katachi (A Silent Voice) that I've been looking forward to, and it lives up to the wait. Perhaps a bit heavy on the teen melodrama, but goddamn if it isn't well done. Followed that up with Blame! which I believe should be available everywhere on Netflix by now, and holy shit, Polygon are striding leaps and bounds with their distinctive CGI. Making a coherent story out of the source material should be commended too, even if something more "arty" would've tickled me more.
And what's this ? A Berserk episode that quite frankly is a world away from the mess of last year ? They've even thrown in a bit of troll rape and exposition ? It's still cracking along at a crazy pace, but it's finding a groove now. Time to seen what visual treats SnK provides to round off the afternoon. -

Registered 15 years agoSee, after plying it with praise, Berserk went back to potato Berserk last week (Ep21). Some absolutely awful, awful South Park-esque animation and cuts, and really collapsed back into the bad habits I thought it had shaken free of.
There's a recap this week (yawn) and everyone's praying that the money saved on thon shoddy slide show of 21 will lead to an epic 23/24 of pure, unadulterated Berserker armour fun.
I wish I could be as confident.
Summer season is looking rather bleak, with Made in Abyss and a pair of Vatican miracle inspectors looking likely highlights. Centaur schoolgirls and cleanliness OCD footballers just don't do anything for me I'm afraid...... -
Got an e-mail today from crunchyroll... they are finally releasing Dragonball Super in the UK \o/ -

Registered 13 years agoSpeaking of.... the last episode.
It's been a while since I read the manga so I've probably forgot. But I don't recall them skimming through so much back story and revealing so much of the plot in one quick go like that.
I'm hoping it means they're gonna skip past all the dull as shit royal blood crap.
Still.. only 2 episodes left I think. Hopefully the Next season will be along quicker this time as well. It should be pretty much easy to sort out as well if they plan to end on a certain cliff hanger style decision that occurred a little back.
They're got a start and end point ready so no excuses or waiting to see how the manga goes blah blah. -

I actually got bored of the manga when it focused so much on it. -

Registered 15 years agoI could honestly see them ending this season at the point where Hannes gets eaten by a familiar face.
The explanation of it's identity could serve as a swift explanation and onto the civil war.
Season of rebooted Kabaneri to go first however..... -

Registered 16 years ago@oldschoolsoviet If they want to get me excited about it, it has to be better than S2. I really, really liked S1, but S2 diluted everything that was good about it and added a load of unnecessary harem bollocks.
@Ror DanMachi gets much better after the first episode. I actually dropped it at that point when it first aired and only picked it up again much later, after various people said "no, it gets much better". It's not a top-tier show, but it's reasonably entertaining. -

Completely, but the harem bollocks was in the manga too unfortunately. I remember checking the manga out to make sure.....
Doing some investigating, and it seems one season is enough for a full adaptation, although the "neatly-wrapped" ending is regarded as shit too. So, yeah, perhaps I should temper my enthusiasm. Still, dat sound design, and the hope of some anime original tweaks should help. Right ?
In other news, Berserk has swung straight back to a "pretty fucking decent" episode. I've no idea what'll happen from week to week any more, nor do the staff it seems. -
AoT ends.
Flipsake I don't wanna wait till the next season.
