Combining their departments and talking about a console that works as both, does indicate this. If it is, it's got me interested. Just need to see how it works now.
Financially is nintendo's prime objective thinking of how many designs of consoles they have had. I've tried 2nd guessing nintendo for generations and can't begin to think what this nx system will be. I'm thinking something which combines handheld with console gaming. -

Only once with the Wii and that has partially gotten them in this situation to begin with. A lot of people and big gamers were burned with the Wii.
Yes a gimmick is a better word to use. But its worked for nintendo before. -
It was a mix of quite a few companies really. There's a great article on this site about the Snes and Starfox's 3D for example. -

Registered 17 years agoI'd be interested to read that article. I know the 3D FX chip used in Starfox, as well as the game where developed by Argonaut in the UK, But I don't see what Starfox has to do with what elstoof said? -

Has read it before, but I'm giving it a re-read, did not remember how Argonaut got Nintendo's attention by hacking their console!
Funny enough, just yesterday I was reading about Sega vs Accolade, which is a similar tale of hacking the copy protection of consoles. -

Registered 16 years agoIf nintendo can indeed turn your gibberings into reality, I think we'll all be "pretty impressed" with the NX.

It's going to be a 3DS sellotaped to the back of a WiiU Gamepad with a wireless video dongle for the TV. It'll probably launch with a Mario game. -
And possibly a Zelda game, too. -

Oh cool, they are building an Ouya rival! -
About time, that's just what the market is clamouring for. -

Registered 14 years agoConsidering they need to make it cross-development ready for both console and handheld (or maybe it will simply be a handheld that connects to the TV), it wouldn't be all that surprising.
It might open itself up to all kinds of piracy though. -

Registered 13 years agoIt'll be a locked down Android fork. Knowing Nintendo, there's a good chance it will be hacked at some point. More likely if it is Android based. -

Registered 14 years agoThe problem with Android consoles is giving people an incentive to actually use another device that isn't a phone or tablet. We've seen this before already, most Android games are made for touch screens anyway, so consoles like Ouya and Shield are aimed at a small niche.
Nintendo of course will always have its fanbase, but if they need to open themselves up to more than just fans, I'm not sure an Android system is going to make a difference either way. -
Merging their handheld and console into one is a good move I feel, but I'm not sure if android is the way to do it. Wouldn't this push the big devs away as it's yet again a different setup to the PC based norm now? -

Registered 13 years agoAndroid is a massively popular platform and I think devs would be delighted if they could easily port their games to Nintendo's home and portable console. -

That's what I thought. I'm no coder, but if it's android based, wouldn't it again be completely different to the other two so more work required? -
