I use PayPal digital gifts. You pay, they email you a code for the eShop.
Can definitely vouch for this approach too. Completely painless and very efficient!

Anyone played Crypt of the necromancer? Is only 7 quid down from 18 at the moment.

Looks a lot of fun but not sure whether it will hold my attention for more than a couple of hours.

So what should I buy in the sale? I got Puyo Puyo and Furi. Considering getting Toki Tori for the 4th time just because it's so cheap. Is the sequel worth getting?
Or Curse of the necrodancer? Kingdom new lands?

Weirldy enough, there is an (English language) demo on the Japanese eshop, if you want to give it a try.

@Meggamugabe Toki Tori 2 is a very different game from the first Toki Tori. I didn't realise this when I bought it on PC (based on really liking the original) so was quite put off initially, but warmed to it the further I got into it.

The second game is more like a Metroidvania game (interconnected areas, with backtracking and paths that unlock later) and you only have two actions (stomp and whistle). Abilities consist of learning different tunes to whistle.

http://www.nintendolife.com/reviews/switch-eshop/toki_tori_2plus is a positive review of the Switch version.

@rwklau Hey yeah thanks I think I read a not so positive review of TT2 on rockpapershutgun? Or EG. A source I respect anyway.. and Im just getting a bad feeling about TT2. Hmm.
Have you played Crypt of the necrodancer? It seems great and on the other hand maybe a bit too stressful for me. I don't like time pressure in games in general, save for racing.

What happened to the Enter the Gungeon thread? I can't find it through the search tool. Enter the Gungeon, Enter Gungeon, Gungeon and Gungoen all return nothing! I just had some questions to ask.

Anyway, it's a great little game. I'm very much enjoying it. Just need to calm it down a little bit and look after the health. I go a bit mental with twin-stick shooters and forget that this isn't quite the same experience!

Edit - Nevermind! I found it through Google instead.

@Meggamugabe Sorry, not played Crypt of the Necrodancer. I've watched my brother play it and yes, it does look stressful timewise. It does have an excellent sound track.

For TT2 I think it's main problem is that it is okay. There's nothing really wrong with it nor is there something to really recommend it. Although having said that I'm now recalling getting stuck and being incredibly frustrated (there's not much hand holding) but then feeling fairly smug when I worked out what I was supposed to do. On one hand I do applaud the developers for trying something different and not just pumping out a cookie-cut sequel but I think in this case something just didn't click.

@Graxlar_v3 I've made it to the third chamber on a number of attempts, but the boss difficulty seems to ramp up quite noticeably at that point Some of the bullet patterns are unavoidable. I guess I need to be collecting more blanks for them?

The journal tells me I've only had 7 attempts though, so I guess I'm still getting used to each of the characters and all the weapons. I've unlocked a shop and some challenges in which I get rewarded for killing so many of a particular kind of enemy. That and I'm meant to be meeting someone by the lift of the second chamber to help create a shortcut, though I don't think he's popped up since.

Really enjoying it though. Even if it shamefully steals so much from Spelunky! :D

Yeah. I've not come close. I had what now seems like a very fortunate attempt just before bed in which I had 5 hearts and 3 shield(?). I lost it all on the boss. I was useless!

@Graxlar_v3 Do you know what the altar is for? I've come up to a grew of those, but get the same message about it being empty.

@DangerousDave_87 does it say it is 'blank'? or empty.

I think it says empty. I'll have to fund another one to be sure, but I'm pretty sure it says empty.

No. Its a random room I sometimes find on one of the first two floors. It looks like an underground tomb. It has some gravestones in it and an altar at the north side of the room.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i know the one :). its always on the second floor.

Right, this is difficult and i havent managed to get there so far but...

on the first floor there is a fireplace, that you can use the blue barrel (or a water gun) to put out.

in the actual fireplace is a switch that unlocks a secret floor, its like a floor 1.5, it has a blob boss which is fairly easy to beat. You can find an item in there called the old emblem. It works similar to a shield but is always the first thing to go.

you have to beat the boss and pick up the emblem (you are better off doing it in that order) and then make your way through floor 2 with the old emblem in tact to place on the empty alter

There are a helluva lot of secrets in the game, it is what makes it so much fun.

Ah. Ok. Cool. I wasn't expecting anything like that. Very Spelunky. I guess I've got a lot to learn. Its very addictive. One run this morning and apparently that was a 40 minute stint! I could easily lose track of time.

Wait, how do you see how many runs you've done in Gungeon? Is it somewhere in the Ammunicon?

Seeing classic barbarian Simon Belmont in that Smash trailer made me really want another Castlevania. Never cared for Smash so it's not something I'll pick up, but fair fucks to them with the amount of content in there.

Oh, does it tell you when you die? Maybe I haven't been paying attention... all I noticed was information about how long the run was, what killed you etc.

And yes, it does seem to have taken a lot of inspiration from Spelunky. Which is no bad thing.
