Interesting question in general - what is a puzzle game, what is a strategy game? Where do they overlap?
I'd say a puzzle is static and requires a solution. ie there is a straight path.

A strategy game has some form of reactivity where you need to change your tactics due to the nature of the game changing.

ie a puzzle has a straight line solution, a strategy has branches.

So with Nintendo charging for multiplayer as of next week, will that affect ALL games do you know? As in will free-to-play games like Fortnite also be affected?

Asking for an 8 year old.

It looks like it won't be required for FTP games like Paladins or Fortnite.

BTW I am sorry if I have ever killed your son in Fortnite I am addicted.

Pinball FX3 also looks like it might be excluded.

I hope Rocket League isn't affected...Will probably mean I'll have to dump it on Switch if it is.

I imagine Rocket League will be, being a game you pay for up front. It was also included as part of the online multiplayer games discounts last week, along with Splatoon, Arms, Mario Kart and Fifa.

Yeah I saw an r/Rocketleague post where they said it'd be part of the online pass. Pain the in the arse but I've got more hours logged on PC anyway if the online offering doesn't get any better than some NES games.

Sigh. And with their bullshit stance on games with tradeables, I'm sure you can't cloud save either. Although I think Psyonix can opt to have it. I've dumped more time on it than any other game on my Switch so it would be a shame to stop playing it. Just not sure I can justify the cost to play it via handheld. Give me some N64/Gamecube games and we'll talk though - not interested in NES games.

Portal Bridge Builder has multiple solutions and I would call that a puzzle game.
  • Deleted user 13 September 2018 18:31:59
    What about Tetris/Lumines/Puyo Puyo?

They're puzzle games whereby you have to rethink strategy on the fly.

Usually puzzle and strategy get lumped together as they both centre around a more passive kind of problem solving.

Strategy games tend to be bigger in scale with more plate spinning while puzzle games are more focused , often around one big idea.

Can't get on the Switch as my eldest is playing Stardew Valley.

Can't get on the PS4 as my youngest is playing Stardew Valley.

    F#&* Stardew Valley.

Just played Splatoon for the first time in a good while and everyone's doodle is moaning about the paid online. Seems popular all around.

More than a year on and I don't get how the doodles are a thing with miiverse being defunct.

I feel I've missed something, most likely obvious

I think it'll do alright. The console itself had a solid launch on the back of just 5 games. I imagine those folk were also Wii U owners and will be the fist adopters of the online service.

At least that's the category I fall into and I'm getting a subscription. I know I'm not the only nutcase out there.

I meant in terms of performance, rather than subs.

I've finished the first two islands on ITB, on easy, without any issues. Is there any actual point in playing on normal or higher (aside from the increased challenge), or will I see all the game has to offer if I finish it on easy? I know that it doesn't quite work like that with a roguelike, but I'll be less motivated to do harder runs if it's largely just the same.

I had the same issue with Invisible Inc. (although that took loads of runs before I finally completed it).

I have super low expectations for the online service reveal. I'm pretty sure the online functionality of my Amiga back in the day will be better than what Nintendo have in store for us tonight. Still, it's pretty cheap and there's always hope of them adding in some decent back catalogue games sooner or later (or much, much later...)

@H1ggyLTD Seeing as they've been telling us we've been getting the service for free since launch, I'm guessing performance is going to be no different. :/

Well, the increased challenge is the whole point really. Playing on Easy is fine to get the hang of things, but you're not really getting the real meat of the game until you go higher.

Easy is very, very easy in ITB. You can just kill everything. The entire point of the game is that you have to get creative to deal with enemies because you can't brute force it, and have to make lots of decisions about when to let units take hits instead of buildings and so on.
