I actually think the direct was a bit over saturated with JRPGs and side scrolling platformers... Like showing off more Yoshi but then announcing NSMBU port in the same direct.

Is there any actual point in playing on normal or higher (aside from the increased challenge), or will I see all the game has to offer if I finish it on easy? I know that it doesn't quite work like that with a roguelike, but I'll be less motivated to do harder runs if it's largely just the same.

I had the same issue with Invisible Inc. (although that took loads of runs before I finally completed it).
Well, the increased challenge is the whole point really. Playing on Easy is fine to get the hang of things, but you're not really getting the real meat of the game until you go higher.
Yeah, I do understand this. But the best thing about most roguelikes is that they essentially throw you in at the deep end, and force you to grasp the mechanics and improve before you can make any meaningful progress. So it kinda defeats the point if there is an easy mode, where you can basically make it to the end without having to really work for it.

This is purely from my perspective though, and I do understand that accessibility is always good and the easy option will open up the game to people who may not otherwise try it. Just that I'll be a lot less motivated to try and finish the game on harder difficulties, so I'll probably just start playing on normal once I'm done with this run on easy.

I may not buy the FFs but glad they exist as itís more stuff that I would play.

Looking at the Xenoblade DLC and probably Diablo for train journeys.

Maybe Pokemon Baby edition but Civ 6 probably not. Pc version I can get the latest dlc.

A decent direct. However as an entitled dickwad, am still sad at the lack of news on access to retro Nintendo beyond those NES games.

Granted there are some retro options from SEGA, , Capcom, Neo Geo and Arcade Archives either out or in pipeline but mostly Iím looking for SNES and beyond from Nintendo.

Letís be honest, most NES games just donít stand up these days

Nah, there's only one achievement coin that's tied to difficulty (finish the game on Hard). The rest can be gotten at any difficulty.

Though again you'll want to be eventually trying it on at least Normal, because Easy is not the game at its best.
Ah okay. Think I'm getting confused with multi-island completion then, which does give extra coins right?
There's an achievement for getting separate 2, 3 and 4-island victories. I haven't gotten it yet, as all of my completions have been with 4 islands.

Yea, it's a typically frustrating lack of a finger on the pulse by Nintendo. Of course there is value in their NES back catalogue but just not as much as they think. Especially not now in an era where emulation is so readily accessible.

They need to get SNES, GameCube and Wii stuff rolling out on switch.

    Luigi's mansion 3 though :D

Just catching up on the Direct, and £50 for two NES controllers is just insane. O_o

Also, if they've started doing this (no doubt the SNES will come next), where does that leave the Classics Mini range?

@Kay Yes, you should do that. Better yet, quit the Easy run entirely (carry over your favourite pilot if you want) and start again on Normal. It's the best way to play imo.

Yeah, I was considering that, I'm basically just using this run to practice, so not really bothered when the pilots die (all of mine are currently dead). I'm on the snowy island now and it feels like I'm just going through the motions.

Haven't fully grasped all the mechanics yet (like how pilots work, for example), but I'll learn as I play on normal.

Well, the main benefit of pilots is that they gain experience and abilities. And the non-generic ones have their own unique abilities.

So yeah, it is better to not let them die if possible.

It bothers me that they're putting so much stock in the NES name for backwards compatability rather than what everyone wants - the Virtual Console. Rather than release their full back catalogue, they'll shit out a bit at a time. As Mike says above, there's not much stock in the NES name as there once was, with emulation and their 'Classic' boxes. Not only that, they're still not giving you the option of buying and owning these titles legally. I take it you get them as part of the service, but you don't own them, so once again they aren't tied to your account.

30 year old NES games are a novelty.

Why not release N64 and Cube games?

Nintendo say that in the upcoming Firmware 6.0.0 "After installing the system update planned for September 18th, 2018 (Tuesday) at 5pm Pacific Time, it will no longer be possible to unlink your Nintendo Account from your Nintendo Switch user."

Is this going to affect region hopping? I'm always having to relink things and sign in again afterwards.
