I think you unlock concept art or something like that.

True about the side missions unlocking characters, but I'd really prefer *some* sort of influence on the campaign.
Wasn't it the same with Advance Wars though? I don't remember each mission having an influence (aside from higher ranks giving more coins, which allowed you to unlock stuff in gallery, more maps for war room etc.).

It does feel weird after playing so many SRPG-type games (or even something like ITB) since the last AW, but again, they're just keeping true to their inspiration.

I'm a bit torn on it. It is a good game, but being so, so similar to Advance Wars invites comparisons to Advance Wars, and... it's not as good as Advance Wars. I think I might be a bit more favourable to it if it differentiates itself a little more.

As for the factions, I do agree that they're a bit samey. Having different commanders is nice, but even they are the same aside from one special power (and most of those powers are a bit meh, imo, except for the dog's power). The COs in Advance Wars gave their armies all kinds of bonuses, and felt really different.

@Kay I don't quite remember, to be honest - I think at least the commanders gained experience in Dual Strike? And didn't get units veteran status after a while, and you could continue using them?

The COs gaining experience does ring a bell actually... as I said, it's been years since I played it.

I think all the hype led people to expect it to be a lot better than it was, which is basically just a generous AW clone with a bit of charm and a few of its own quirks. It's still fun though, and the devs are obviously passionate, with quick updates to improve the experience based on feedback.

    Must hold out...
Mineko's Night Market might be worth keeping an eye on too.

Wargroove I am very much enjoying. Its a very solid game and at a very good price, so I'm certainly not complaining.

It also looks like the devs will be fully supporting this in the future with DLC (wonder if it will be free?). So it will be interesting to see where we end up in a years time, could be absolutely fantastic.

Stern pinball could be a legit bargain, though... The cheapest I've seen the gamecard is 25.

Struggling to find an official Nintendo comfort grip - anyone know where I might source one?

Also is it worth keeping the GameCube adaptor and controller for SSB or should I get rid of it?

Searched for Dandara to see what it was and got excited that Danganronpa appeared in the auto fill options. Sadly it was a pixeljunk add on.

Is the Russian version any less monotonous?

Oh yes, the Russian version has a riveting translation, with story nuances unseen in the English version. Because that's why we all love Diablo 3, for the roleplaying.

Not sure you're getting the admittedly poor joke. I wasn't talking about the story being monotonous.

Yeah, that was pretty obvious. :p

I personally don't think it's monotonous at all, I think it's a perfect game to zone out to. But hey, if you don't like it, you don't like it.

I tried, for at least ten hours of doing the exact same thing over and over, but no. Not for me.

    @The_Goon

generally the Wii U Gamecube controller adapter with Gamecube controllers was one of the nicest surprises of Switch for me ... obviously can play two player out of the box with joycons, but if you use the telly often, plugging the adapter in the dock allows for example 3 or 4 player Arms, or Mario Kart ... its been used by me a lot more on Switch than it was on Wii U (where it only worked on Smash)
probably not the controller of choice , but to play together with my kids its perfect, avoided to buy even more controllers, and dusted off a couple that just weren't getting used often (although Gamecube is still set up)

Yep, every time I leveled up. None of it makes any meaningful difference to the gameplay though (at least up to level 25 ish which is where I gave up).

Yeah, there's more than enough variety between classes (and within classes given different skills and equipment) to keep you going. But maybe he just objected to the gameplay in general.

Also, how on earth did it take you 11 hours to get to level 25? The point is to raise the difficulty when it gets too easy, otherwise it gets sloooooooooowwww.

Yep, did that as well, tried to get a balance between leveling up reasonably fast and not dying too much. It may have been under 10 hours I suppose, just felt longer :p

I did try one other class, but then you've just got to plough through the same missions and areas again. So you add a bit of variety with one hand and take it away with the other.

Look, I get I'm in the minority, fair enough. Most people rave about it. I do think you all have some sort of weird Stockholm Syndrome though.
