Damn. I can't really justify buying Mario Maker again, but if that 2D Zelda is half as good as ALBW..... Oh my....

That just happens to be the same day the next two NES games go live.
What ‘classics’ will they bestow on us this time?

This would be perfect. Loved both Mario Maker and ALBW.

@jonsaan Super Mario Bros 2 (which is a classic!) and Kirby's Adventure.

That Twitch Prime sure is useful sometimes. I actually find more interesting games on there than on the average console subscription.

Not to fuel these Nintendo Direct rumours, but the developer of Baba Is You replied to a Twitter post I made, suggesting the game will be out very soon (ie. No point in having a pre-order option on Switch).

Either way, its great news. Baba is You looks excellent!

@DangerousDave_87 Fair enough! Still crappy NES games though...that I have purchased many times over. We need other systems.

Crappy is a bit harsh probably but I am still smarting from the no Virtual console or access to any past purchases :)

@jonsaan I know what you mean. I remember thinking 17 quid per year was a bargain, as I'd spent a good 200 quid on Virtual console games over the years and didn't want buy them all over again. However, 1 platform and 30-odd games is painfully little.

Really? Can you tell me the list of games Switch has that better what the N64 had? You’re excused if you didn’t own the N64 of course.

    N64:
    Mario 64
    Star Fox 64
    Zelda Ocarina of Time
    Banjo Kazooie
    Goldeneye
    Perfect Dark
    Diddy Kong Racing
    Wave Race 64
    F Zero X
    Jet Force Gemini
    Blast Corps
    Pilotwings 64
    Doom 64

Best console “I’VE OWNED” never had a N64

Most N64 games have aged terribly. Don't get me wrong, I loved mine at the time, but I would not enjoy playing most of its games today (Mario 64, MK64 and Zelda are exceptions). The Switch is just a better-thought-out console.

Quite a lot of those N64 games have aged terribly. (Goldeneye in particular).

Ocarina is still an absolute classic though.

@Mola_Ram why would you need to enjoy playing them today? At the time they were groundbreaking.

The Switch arguably already has a better Zelda, Mario and Mario Kart. The only thing from that list I'd want is Pilotwings and F-Zero.

@erasr because the very best games have a timeless quality to them. I will still happily play many SNES games, but not N64. It's not the worst in the grand scheme of things, but overall (despite my nostalgia for a few of the games) I think it's probably the worst Nintendo console. Give or take a WiiU.

So yes, the Switch is very much better, with more games and better games overall. Feel free to disagree of course.

Switch is utterly brilliant for me because it has opened the door on all the PC Indies I have never played before. As a consequence I find the idea of paying 50 or 60 quid for a Nintendo first party game very hard to get my head round. I even find Diablo 3 on sale to be way too expensive for me. I just can't justify spending that sort of money on one game. Not when I can find an Indie ( Like say Stardew Valley) for around a tenner that will keep me engaged for just as long.

I didn't think much of the N64, even back then. I certainly didn't see Wave Race, Jet Force Gemini, Perfect Dark or Star Fox 64 as greats of their time. It didn't help that the Playstation had so much more variety, many more classics, and at much lower prices.

I think the Switch is comfortably the better console, respective of their time periods. It's made a much bigger impression on me, has a far richer library of games and doubles as a handheld (so is like owning an N64 and a Gameboy).

Should every first party title this year live up to expectations, it'll be the best Nintendo console ever. In my humble opinion, at least.

The N64 games might not look great today because they were the first to do it in 3D.... think about it, they were always going to look crap by today’s standards. Early days of 3D were rough but revolutionary.

Ermm to the guy who said Switch Mario is better than Mario 64, wow, no... just no.

@beastmaster they're very good. I'd argue that if you wanted to try one, Pirate's Curse is the better game.

But Odyssey is the better game. Certainly not as influential but it is better than Mario 64.

The difference is Mario 64 was the greatest game ever at the time it was released, whereas Odyssey isn’t even the greatest Mario. (Galaxy 2 is).

I can also confirm they are good, although I have only played the Half a Genie remake.

I find it hard to believe people are effusive about the Switches game library.

You may as well say that mobile phones or tablets have a great game library.

As a console it has piss all in the way of exclusives.

Why do you care if other people like it or are basically satisfied with it?

If you hate the library that much, just sell the bloody thing, get some money back, and save yourself precious seconds typing out basically the same comment again and again and again. It's a win-win for everyone.

Why does it need to have exclusives? What it does have is loads of good games that can be played handheld exclusively on the Switch. That makes a huge difference to a lot of us, myself included.
