My left joycon developed drift after about a year and a half.

Replaced the stick myself (there are some notes about what a faff this was earlier in this thread. )

@JamboWayOh I've had 6 Joy Con in my house and only one has suffered the drift. I was very fortunate though as a can of compressed air from Poundland fixed it. I didn't want to mention it in case I jinx myself, but it has been a week since I tried the canned air and I've had no issues.

My left joycon started drifting a few weeks ago too (had the thing for about 18 months).

Using this forum as a sample overall that's pretty shocking when you consider how much the console is and how much they're asking for the joy cons.

    Apparently drift is inevitable.

    https://kotaku.com/joy-con-drift-is-becoming-a-real-problem-on-the-switch-1836417809

Summary: the little thumb stick is an off the shelf proprietary component bought from another company who apparently can't or won't fix the issue.

My launch model is on its second replacement left joycon and the right one has just started drifting

Drift is a pain in Xenoblade as they have to be stood still to auto attack. I may have sworn on occasion.

Also Link walked off a cliff when my daughter played BotW.

I must be lucky to have not had (or at least not noticed) any drift

@ChiefGB Saw a preview thoughts article over on Kotaku. Basically a simpler style of gameplay (I believe the word 'throwback' was used) ideal for couch co-op. Friendly AI slightly problematic (but, eh, what's new), slightly iffy camera but overall they were enjoying it. Honestly kinda sounds like the perfect thing for me, a nice celebration of Marvel based around a more arcade type experience. I've had more than enough of deep intricate mechanics for a while, something a little more straightforward will be a nice change of pace!

Yep :) Pretty much what you'd expect to be honest, for better or for worse, except maybe a little more involved - you do have to pay attention to attack types, the combos you can do with your team, and how they affect the enemy you're fighting. It's not super deep, but probably marginally deeper than the first 2 games.

Not far into it obviously as I only got it today, but I'm definitely enjoying it and looking forward to digging deeper into the character customisation options.

@rice_sandwich How accessible is it? I'm not particularly big on Baseball, but enjoyed watching it late night on Channel 5 back in the early 00's with friends. There's something about how Americans present sport that make it feel more like an event.

Very accessible. Think of it like everybody's golf. Arcade/cartoony vibe but with surprising depth.

Very much on the arcade rather than simulation side of things. I dabbled with the firs one on pc but it's a much more appealing prospect on the Switch. I recall that it had a greatly configurable difficulty level.

I'll have a nosey at some gameplay then. If I can convince someone to play it with me I'll definitely pick it up. It's hard to convince anyone to play baseball, though.

It's not a new game on other platforms so you can check out reviews and gameplay videos.

For anyone experiencing drift, lift up the rubber piece that covers the shaft of the mini stick and spray some switch cleaner into the middle bit. Rotate the stick a few times and that'll fix it.

How long for? No idea - depends on how bad the joy con is, but it's a shitload cheaper than forking out £65 for a new pair of the things.

Bugger. Didn't realise Switch was dead when I left the house this morning. Can I borrow a USB-C cable and just use it in any usb port to charge? Don't want to brick the thing.

It shouldn't brick the console, but it won't charge very fast at all.

Cheers, guys. So under what circumstances were/are Switches supposed to be bricked?

Iirc, there was a spate of bricked consoles caused by third-party docks. Not aware of any caused by chargers.

Is the stick drift issue just that the stick gets stuck and doesn't return to the middle properly?

    @nudistpete

Sort of. It does not recentre properly due to debris that can get in via the seal around the stick.

Squirting it with contact fluid can apparently sometimes fix it.

Can also be the sticks getting recalibrated in an offset position. (Although it is usually dirt).

I'd (wrongly) assumed it was a hardware fault, not something impeding the movement of the stick.

I've been wiping my stick bases with a cotton bud sprayed with silicone lubricant for a while now - roughly every 8-12 weeks. If I don't I can feel the stick becoming a bit stiffer. I do this with pretty much all my controllers I use regularly and it seems to keep them responsive.
