I like the idea of those games but when I play them they're just a bit tedious to play.

Might suit playing on the switch more.

Thanks for that, explains it really well and looks like it wouldn't be my cup of tea.

Might wait for a price drop just to get the full story of what happened.
I didn't think Hyrule Warriors would have been my cup of tea, as i'm not a fan of Dynasty Warriors type games, but I loved it from start to finish.

All the levels are from the different game and the OST of rocky/metal versions of popular Zelda tunes is really awesome! I can see why Nintendo are trusting them with another - they really got the source material.

I do actually want Rollercoaster Tycoon 3. Hopefully it is a decent port and not just a cynical cash grab. (Sadly I am very sceptical).

Frontier are handling Rollercoaster Tycoon themselves, aren't they?

I put 100s of hours into Sandbox mode, a decent portable version would be an absolute dream. I play Parkitect these days but it's a pain having to sit at the PC to play it.

I started Spiritfarer this morning. I'm in love already, but hope that some of the actions can be sped up or automated as you progress...

Anyone on the fence about Hotshot Racing after Eurogamer hyped up both hotshot & inertia Drift before fairly middling reviews, do yourself a favour and pick it up. Single player content Is a little light but there are tons of unlockables for completionists. The cars and characters are lovely and the track detail is epic. I was worried the big wide courses would ruin my favourite arcade racing pastime which is time trials but my fears were unjust. It's basically Virtua Racing with drifting and a ton more tracks. Online isnt particularly well populated today but I did manage a few games of cops and robbers in quick play which was lag free.

To sum up.... single player is a fun few hours. I'd estimate up 5-10 depending on skill. Populated online would be epic but the early signs are poor. I'm sure it would be awesome with friends too but I'm to old to have any. If like me, you love mastering tracks and going for time trials the potential is endless. On the track it's a winner which is what counts. For the price I think theres enough there across all modes for arcade racing fans. At 36 it's like being a kid again in the arcades. I just need a PS4 and Tony Hawks now and I'll be all set..

Yeah Hotshot is good, certainly worth £12 or whatever. I wouldn't bother with Cops and Robbers though, the frame rate is appalling (I'm on a Switch Lite, not sure if it is any better docked).

@ukaskew37 I didn't choose that mode,it was chosen for me. I was just making the point that the online isn't completely dead. It was ok, a bit of knock about fun.

Iím enjoying Hotshot but the rubberbanding is getting on my nerves. Especially if I snag a bad final corner.

@ChuChuRkt I should have mentioned that, it is a little aggressive but not quite a deal breaker. In my head I'd written off even trying the hard cups. I still think, as a whole package its a great homage to 90's arcade Racers. I'll almost certainly hammer a few time trials later and finish a cup or two. The feeling of throwing these cars around is just to good not to.

I had some good fun on the split screen MP last night. I can see me spending a load of time on the time trials

@Steifybobbins Yeah, as a whole, the game is great. And the first person view feels just like the original Ridge Racer. But Iíve had a couple of races where Iíve had a great performance, made a fluff right near the end and then finished in 7th or 8th. I miss lapping the back markers in like in RR 😊

It's certainly not an easy game. Snap oversteer into a barrier anywhere near the last lap and you've probably written off the entire GP...and I haven't even got near the higher difficulty levels yet!

I still haven't decided if the handling is fun or just unnecessarily difficult to master. It certainly isn't as intuitive as the beautifully weighted pad handling in something like Forza (or indeed Horizon Chase Turbo)

The Switch Up review seemed to suggest that the harder difficulties make little difference due to the rubber banding.

All difficulties pull the other drivers along with you. So there is no way to form a lead on Normal. Only difference between difficulties is that it is easier to catch up after you crash on Normal.

@ukaskew37 but Chase turbo is dreadfully boring. You dont really drive the car it's almost pulled around the track. Also hitting another car relentlessly because they dodge at the last second and trudging to a snail's pace is so annoying. I wanted to love it but I just can't

I love such updates, thank you for sharing :) Knowing Shopto it might even be with you tomorrow, which would be nice. Which game do you fancy starting with?

I'll probably start at the beginning with 64, haven't played it for about 20 years so most of it will feel completely fresh.

Haha, great. So not only did Nintendo not bother to remaster any of the games (apart from better quality HUD elements + Switch-specific button prompts) the games are apparently just running on a bog-standard emulators, presumably with all the emulation bugs present? I'll wait for the Digital Foundry verdict before jumping to conclusions though.

One curious thing is that in the promotional footage for Mario 64 appears to be running bordered. I mean, I've been running Mario 64 extremely well on various Android phones / tablets for years using N64oid which (by default? can't remember) makes the image the full height of the screen.

I'll be very disappointed if Nintendo are using N64oid or similar AND not taking advantage of it correctly.

I imagined it was going to be emulation when Nintendo said that Galaxy would run at "up to 1080p". If it were a port, there's no way it wouldn't run at 1080p all the time.

It's disappointing how inconsistent the whole package seems to be tbh. Sunshine gets a widescreen update, but 64 doesn't (even though there is an unofficial widescreen port on the Switch now). And both games still stick to 30fps, despite the fact that Sunshine was originally designed for 60fps during development.

I'm sure they have their reasons for doing it that way, and it's not as if the games will suffer as a result, but it's a bit of a missed opportunity for them to do a proper celebration of the anniversary with an enticing package, instead of just three roms dumped in HD onto a cartridge.

I also assumed emulators, given these aren't remasters, and given how the mini consoles used emulators, and also how Nintendo have even been known to pirate their own roms off the internet.

I still hoped they might give us fullscreen Mario 64 though, given I could do that on my Nexus 4 back in 2012.

There was an interesting tweet further down claiming there were further references to N64 games in the emulator source. Whether that means an Online 'perk' in the future, who knows?

Nintendo is weird. They are the one game company with the most celebrated history, bar none, but they suck really bad when it comes to revisiting it.

@Kay Mario 64 not being widescreen doesn't bother me that much, given it wasn't the original aspect ratio, and the game involved a fair amount of coding gymnastics to develop in the first place. Widescreen could be very hard to get perfect.

However, if you look at promotional videos Mario 64 on Switch it appears to be bordered at the top and bottom! It's unforgivable not to even upscale the image to fit the full screen height.

Hopefully I'm wrong. I'll post on here when I receive my copy.

Was playing 64 on pc t'other night and flicking between 30/60 fps and it felt almost identical. Not really sure why.
