I guess animations are still only 30fps, if not less.

Nintendo is weird. They are the one game company with the most celebrated history, bar none, but they suck really bad when it comes to revisiting it.
I'd disagree tbh, their whole foundation and brand is based on that celebrated history. That's exactly why games get re-released on newer platforms, you have newer games always referencing older titles (even in completely different franchises), and games like SSB which is basically just a celebration of everything they've ever done.

As for the collection however - as always, they do the bare minimum because they know they can get away with it. And I don't necessarily mean that as a criticism.

I'm hearing that the Y axis controls are non-inverted in this version of Mario Sunshine, and there's no way to change them back to inverted.

If I ever felt like trying Super Mario Sunshine, this sure made it very much less likely now. Or maybe I'd pick up the GC version.

Noooooo. What is it with not offering the most basic of accessibility controls. Nintendo do this a lot.

I'll be skipping it then, non-inverted can do one.

I'll be waiting for confirmation though. Until someone actually confirms, it's just a rumor.

Also, I guess they could patch it. Doesn't sound too hard, and it's happened tons of times before. The question is whether they would bother patching a game that will only be available for six months.

From what I've heard about 3D All Stars so far, I'm really hoping for a patch :D

This would be a shame though. I like the idea of owning the definitive version of the 3 games on one self-contained cartridge.

I'm not sure I'd call them "definitive versions" when they're all just fairly bare-bones "updates" running on emulators.

Ideally I wouldn't even need this if Nintendo just let me play that VC version of Mario 64 on the Switch. I paid money for it, you know.

Yeah I was reluctant to call them that given the laziness on Nintendo's part, but the games do have updated HD HUD artwork, a higher resolution than the originals, some updated textures, and Sunshine has widescreen support, so I believe they're technically the best looking console releases of the 3 games to date.

Only downsides are the lack of analogue triggers in Sunshine.

This video provides a great summary of the changes for each game.

I think they made it that way to make it consistent across all three games. I tried Sunshine over the summer, and it felt weird with the inverted controls.

They should in theory be able to patch in an option in the main menu to change to non-inverted for all three games. But I doubt it will happen - Nintendo don't usually listen to fan feedback on this kind of stuff, and this collection seems like a one and done type of deal.

I always thought everyone used inverted axis. Maybe I'm an odd person. Or it's my conditioning from all that time on Microsoft simulator back in 97.

    This got me thinking.

    https://www.theguardian.com/games/2020/feb/28/why-do-video-game-players-invert-the-controls

Found this article. Explains that simulator games back in the 90's along with goldeneye etc may have led to my invertedness

A lot of early 90s game on PC had inverted controls with no way to change them. Especially because of a lot of first-person games at the time were some kind of space or flight combat simulators.

Smyth's took the money for the All Stars preorder today. Looking forward to playing Galaxy in 1080p60. Still find it bizarre they haven't included Galaxy 2.

So what do people think will happen with Galaxy 2? A separate download on eshop? Added to All stars collection as paid/free dlc? Included in a third All stars collection with SML and something else?

I don't think they'll bother. Nintendo are fundamentally a company run by assholes with great creative staff. They're always dreadful when things are going well.

It would require actual work on Nintendo's behalf to translate the controls for Yoshi's tongue, so I'm not getting my hopes up.

@MrFlay People keep saying Galaxy 2 should have been included. Is that because it's so much better that Galaxy 1?

Would it be like releasing an Elder Scrolls compilation that includes Oblivion but not Skyrim, or not quite that bad?

@Zerobob I thought Galaxy 2 was more of the same. I 100%-ed Galaxy 1 but I did not get halfway of 2 before something new shiny got my attention. But perhaps that's just me.

    @Zerobob

I haven't played it. The reviews were stellar though. It's the same engine so it wouldn't be difficult to port it. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

Galaxy was 60fps on the Wii IIRC, so I really hope so!

I can't find a source but I'm sure I read it somewhere. It was 60fps on the Wii, I think.

Galaxy was already 60fps on the Wii. They have said however that it will run at "up to 1080p", so dynamic res should be in play.

I remember when DF tried that Tegra version of Galaxy and saw that it couldn't reach a locked 60fps at 1080p. Looks like Nintendo couldn't either.

Surprisingly, it seems that not only Sunshine has non-inverted Y controls, but now Mario 64 has forced inverted X controls?

My initial enthusiasm is waning by the day, they really are a bunch of cocks at times.

Good female role models aren't represented enough in Mario either. Kind of disappointed they released this. All you play with is a man. Come on it is 2020.

@Armoured_Bear so I went and checked the original game. To my surprise, it was already inverted - didn't remember that. So I guess now it's non-inverted? Nice.

Anyway, the camera in Mario 64 was always kinda bad, shame they didn't improve it.

For me, it honestly feels like half of a game will be missing with Galaxy 2 not being there. And the sequel was, imo, the better half of the game, since it expanded on many of the concepts of the first game and felt more inventive in general.
