Glad I'm not the only that found that tagline a bit odd, for so many reasons. I appreciate it's the reviewer's opinion (and as pointed out, Martin does tend to get overly excited about certain genres/franchises), but while I would have understood a statement like that being in the text of the review, it seems very clickbaity for a headline.

Having said that, as someone that's briefly tried MH before and always found it too confusing and grindey, the review has persuaded me to give the demo a try.

I love Platinum games but I was bored by Astral Chain. I'd agree on that one.

Gave up on that recently, nice looking game though.

Yup, agreed. In terms of Platinum stuff, I adore Bayonetta 1 & 2, Nier Automata, & Vanquish. I even enjoyed the Transformers game more than Astral Chain. In fact, I fancy giving that a replay at some stage.

Astral Chain was good. Far from Essential though. 7/10 from me.

Monster Hunter World was really good. 9/10 from me. So an Essential for Rise seems plausible.

Starting to notice some nasty joycon drift for the first time. Iíve had the machine for 4 years nearly so I imagine itís been there a while. Got really annoying during Undertale today.

Any idea on what the wait time is for a Nintendo fix and if they will charge? £60 for a new pair that may have the same problem within months.

Switching off and on then recalibrating seems to have helped for now but it wonít be long before it returns I suspect.

Is Hades a game that can be comfortably played using original Joycons or would I really need to get a proper joypad? Thanks

Depends on your fingers, but I've played with the Joycons well enough. For Hollow Knight I had to go to the Pro pad, but for Hades I haven't felt the need. Note: I'm shit at Hades. :)

Cheers. My fingers are short and stubby but pretty dexterous. The game is so drenched with praise I'm going to just have to try it.

Has anyone had drift issues only when using joy cons docked and in the joy con grip?

I just bought brand new joy cons but the same issue I had in Overwatch with right joy con drift is still there.

Prior this it had gotten so bad most games were unplayable docked or not, and the calibration confirmed that. Now, calibration is coming up ok but Overwatch acts weird only when docked. Itís fine in handheld.

Can you describe the drift? It sounds more like wireless interference if its only when they joy con are attached to something.

Thanks for response! Basically during Overwatch matches every now and then the controller will act as if Iíve either pushed the right stick vertically straight up / down or horizontally to the far right / left (my character will spin around in this instance).

It doesnít happen on handheld mode and still happens with brand new joy cons so I think youíre right.

In general I find docked mode a bit less responsive controls wise. I sit 6 feet from the TV with nothing inbetween buy it just feels clunkier, laggier than in handheld mode.

Yeah. That definitely sounds like interference of some kind, rather than drift. For some reason if a joy con cuts out, the Switch continues to register the last input, which is usually the analog stick. When the issue was most prominent at launch, players would complain that Link would run off (or into) cliffs whenever the controllers lost connection.

If you say its happening with new joy con, it could be the console itself that has a fault. It's probably not going to be much help, but have you tried updating the software in the joy con?

I've heard that a busy wifi network at home can also cause issues with the signal between a switch and the joy con, but that's not an area I'm particularly clued up in. I rarely have more than 3 devices active at one time (2 phones and a games console), so unless you've got a lot going on at home, its probably not that.

    @DangerousDave_87

Itís all further complicated by a genuine joy con drift issue on my previous set (now posted to Nintendo for repair). They were starting to make most games and even the menus unworkable. So far, the new ones seem to have fixed everything except this one specific Overwatch problem, which I noticed before I noticed drift elsewhere.

I do hope itís a connectivity issue and not the machine itself. It could also be the joy-con grip - Iíll test how it works docked with the controllers loose.

2 laptops and 2 phones on WiFi so could be that too!

@Trent_Steel Have you tried updating the controller firmware? I think it's somewhere in the Settings menu. I had similar problems and updating them fixed it.

Yeah gave that a go - it updated them and no issues as yet. It does appear issues only happen during docked Overwatch so it could be game specific. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

I really hope the Switch Pro gets HDR (it probably won't) as playing Paper Mario:TOK let night and it's begging for HDR.
    Lovely, relaxing game so far.

Just a heads up for any joycon drifters, I just had my 3 year old neon green left joycon repaired for free by Nintendo, sent it off last Thurs 25th and received back this morn. They didn't even attempt to charge me (I had that happen before and sucessfully argued). So get your old joycons repaired for free whilst they are still feeling generous!

I wonder why they're doing it? Did I hear right that both the PS5 and Xbox series X controllers use the same parts? As in they're from the same supplier/manufacturer. Perhaps they've now got no excuse but to get on top of it. If the other two don't suffer the same issues, or handle it even slightly better, Nintendo wont have a leg to stand on when it comes to all these lawsuits.

Anyone had any dealings with invisible inc/Mark of the ninja and don't starve?

    Wondering if worth picking up.

Mark of the Ninja is good fun.

Invisible Inc is one of my favourite games of the last decade, but it depends how much you like turn-based strategy stuff. It's rather difficult, too (though you can customise it pretty much however you want).
