@Worlds_ Its got a nice and chill puzzle solving element to it. Kinda reminded me of the old isometric adventure/puzzle games from the 80s. It's probably still no cheaper, but you'll get a good 20 hours or so of enjoyment from it.

Bought it (Toad) and absolutely love it. Thanks for the advice guys. It’s a lovely little puzzler and hits the spot because I’m a big fan of those wooden style puzzle games.

Absolutely loving the Switch Lite. Weird because I didn’t enjoy using my old original Switch in handheld mode.

Its definitely on the clunky side, but it also depends on the games you're playing at the time. Some games just feel better portably. Even when the TV is there for the taking.

Captain Toad is ace. One of those unexpected joys, ended up being one of my games of the year when it was released. Noticed Lego Builders Journey is out next week which look likes it will scratch that gentle isometric puzzle itch.

Sorry know this has been brought up a few times.

Last year I changed region to buy a few games then changed back no issues. However this time I have some evouchers on my uk account. If I swap to SA do I lose all of this?

Or is it restored when I change back to my UK region?

    Ta

@damagedinc I thought if you had a balance you couldn’t change?

@damagedinc Don't know what you mean by e vouchers but yes if you have credit on your account you can't switch regions.

Anyone else slightly worried by the lack of Mario Golf reviews? Usually Nintendo embargos are a few days before release, aren't they?

I have a Nintendo Switch Online voucher just waiting for this but I've started eying up the rest of the list...

I can't say I am. I think we're looking at another mid-tier Nintendo sports title. It has 7/10 written all over it. Will have solid mechanics, but fall just short on content or depth.

I'm still looking forward to playing it, just for the motion control. I genuinely love Wii and Wii U Sports Golf

Nope. The embargo lifts later this afternoon, seems pretty standard. MG fans are not happy about the omission of traditional 3 click controls but the new way seems decent enough as it appears to factor in accuracy versus risk anyway.

I've always wanted and never bought Mario Tennis. I suspect this will be the same.
Mostly because although I love the idea of them and they look cool, I don't really have anyone to play MP with (I feel like Mario MP is best with same-room opponents).
  • Deleted user 24 June 2021 09:45:38
The gameplay on Mario Tennis Aces is excellent but it definitely lacks single player content. I suspect the new golf game will be as Dave says, although they have indicated that the game will receive ongoing support. I expect it will receive new modes/courses etc. over the course of the next year but will be a bit content light at launch.

The 3DS version of Mario Golf is superb and well worth picking up for single player.

I am also a little worried about the lack of 3 click controls but I have not really looked into the new method. I've loved pretty much every Mario Golf game so I've been anticipating this since they announced it. Fingers crossed.
  • Deleted user 24 June 2021 09:53:29
    @Rewsan

It's 2 click but as far as I can tell, it's something like the longer you hit a shot the less accurate it will be. There is a sweet spot for accuracy versus distance, so I guess you need to know when it's acceptable to risk a shot versus playing safer. The joycon motion controls will probably be terrible.

I have seen a lot of people complaining about the potential of RNG ruining the game. Although for me it makes it a more authentic experience, everytime I've played golf I've never known which way the ball was going to go and just hoped for the best.

I have always like Mario Golf (and Everybody’s Golf) games. Been a long time since I have played one, so likely to get this one at some point although I am not in anyway looking forward to it. (Probably due to playing Golf Story about 6 months ago).

Yeah, I think the grumbles are from hardcore fans who want to play super competitively online. They may be somewhat missing the point that Mario Golf is for laughs. This version of Mario Golf is has been marketed as accessible & easy to play based on the video clips I have seen. I haven't bought a new release for a very long time so I'm very tempted.

Famitsu gave it 33/40 and the 3ds one 34/40 so I reckon it's going to be a solid 8/10.

Tony Hawks on Switch is looking good. I think it will make for the perfect portable game.

Still loving Toad. Got so much to get through. Links Awakening is on my radar - another perfect portable game.

I'm hoping Tony Hawks looks alright on Switch. It should be pretty playable with the smaller analog stick. Trying to play it on Xbox isn't ideal.

Metro Gamecentral seemed to like Mario Golf but the Nintendo Life review seemed really scathing.

Seems to be the usual thing across many reviews - decent mechanics but short on content (though MetroGC seem to dispute this).

Exactly the same problem Mario Tennis had; feels like Nintendo have been phoning in their Mario sports games for a long time now. Pandemic can't have helped in all fairness.

I liked Tennis Aces but nevertheless thought that it lacked content. I'll keep an eye on Golf but think I'll wait for a sale after all the updates.

Come to think of it, I still haven't touched Mario Golf on 3DS, it's my last unplayed 3DS game.

Tony Hawks is getting 9’s and hailed as a great port. Graphics look good too. Plays smoothly.

Didn’t pick it up on PS so I think this is a purchase for me, for portability too.

That's a fairway to putt it!

Spent many an enjoyable hour playing multiplayer Mario Golf on N64. Agree this looks a little phoned in, as did M Tennis but might be a fun pick up for a family/ friends get together at some point in the future...

Yeah. That looks great. Not touched a Lego game in years, but this looks exactly like my thing.

Lego Journey looks good but not quite as varied as Toad, for example. It actually looks quite basic, like a mobile game. But, tempting still.
