Registered 11 years agoI'm not worried about either of the actors to be honest. As long as the script and direction are similar quality to the first season, they will be excellent.
The first season moved a bit too slow to watch one episode each week, so I might wait until it's finished before watching it. It's hard to go back to this forced scheduled viewing after growing accustomed to Netflix's content dump delivery. -

Unless they saw Dazed and Confused when it came out in which case they've been waiting all this time for everyone else to realise he's awesome.
Anyone who claims he thought Matthew McConaughey can act before, say, 2011, is a liar. -

Yes but he had a few outstanding roles between that and TD.
Exactly. Pretty rich being wary of Vince Vaughn when McConaughey had a decade made up almost entirely of RomComs.
He went from being one of my least favourite actors to one of the most favourite. -
Sorry to spoil the Mahogany love-in, yes he's a decent actor nowadays, but are we risking hyperbole here? I mean, his basic approach (and, God knows, his accent) is pretty fucking standard across all his roles now.

I've been convinced of McConaheugheys acting abilities since I saw Reign of fire.Yes, silly film (I love it) but when I saw I found McConaughey to be proper menacing and completely apart from anything he'd done.

As for Collin Firth and Vince Waune they're both shit. At least Vince was in wingers so I'll love him. Never seen Collin McFarell be anything but a knobhead so as long as he's a crooked cop it's going to be hunky doory.
But McCghney and Haroldson they're not. -
I have to say Mahogany won me over and then I saw Interstellar.
I don't think he's to blame for the hogwash that turned out to be even though he reverted to type. Detective and Dallas Buyers Club were both different enough to earn him kudos.
Always liked Farrell (fucking excellent in In Bruges) and I like Vaughn's energy even if most of his films have been bilge. I have Swingers on my Netflix list, yet to watch it.
Looking forward to this although I felt the characters in the first series were more interesting than the plot. -

Registered 18 years agoSwingers is fantastic. Can't say it's brilliantly acted but it's a great, funny film. You're so fucking money baby! -
Never got round to watching it although the trailer I saw recently gives me a massive pang of nostalgia.
Probably cause the cast look so young and I remember the time so well. -

Registered 19 years agoI actually prefer watching stuff one episode a week, at least that way I can keep up... Can never find time or stay awake long enough to watch more than 1 episode of anything most evenings anyway! -

Registered 11 years agoOne ep at a time is fine, but I feel waiting a week to continue the story tends to hurt momentum. Especially if you watch other series in between. Game of thrones is bad for this as well since there are so many parallel stories happening, and you can go weeks before finding out what an important character is up to because we have to watch Jon Snow squint at things up north. -

Registered 14 years ago@PES_Fanboy he has always been a decent actor just used to get typecast into rom coms.
He was in a time to kill as someone else mentioned previously then started doing some more serious films in 2011 like Lincoln lawyer and killer Joe. I thought you'd like him as he always has his shirt off
I have a nasty feeling this isn't going to be anywhere near the standard of season 1 but then
again I have the same concerns about fargo. Farrell is fine after In bruges not convinced about Vaughan.

Registered 11 years agoLet's not forget that Farrell, like Vaughn in Starsky & Hutch, also proved his acting chops in a reboot of a late 20th Century TV crime drama: Miami Vice.
It's not a stretch to think that this is why they were chosen to star in the second season of True Detective. -

Registered 14 years ago@HisDudness well if it's anything like Miami vice count me out. How on earth Michael Man produced that shite after heat I really don't know. I remember seeing it at the cinema one of my mates walked out half way through and in hindsight I wish I had. The best thing about the film was the sound effects for the gun fire at the end of it, a truly awful film
