    From here

"Star Wars fans have started queuing seven weeks early for the opening of the final movie - but appear to have camped outside the wrong cinema.
Dedicated fans are lining up outside the famous Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood but have been told it will open on 19 May at a cinema a mile away. "

Website they are also raising money for charity. There's a public phone box nearby as well, so you can phone them.

    (323) 462-9609 is the number of the callbox. You have to do the international dialling thing to get through of course.

Can someone fill me in on what they actually do? Do they really camp there for weeks, or do they just roll out a blanket and check once a week if it's still there?

And if the former, just how awful must it smell in the cinema then?

I assume they camp out waiting for the tickets to start selling. Let's hope that they actually go home and shower once they have them. :-)

I think that you register and they have a clock-in system. So the amount of time that you spend there dictates your number in the queue.

I like their logo jobby - the one with the 3 and Anakin at various stages of the movies.

I think opening night of a new star wars film will be a smelly place to be whether the cinema-goers have been camped outside or not...

Just my bigoted view of grown men who are so obsessive about what is - let's be honest - a kid's film :o)

Even if you agree that the first three films were great (I'm not much of a fan, but I'm not prepared to start a Lord of the Rings type flame war), the fact still remains that the last two have been utterly rubbish. So, even if you're a fan and want to see the final episode for completeness' sake, I don't understand, what's the rush? Surely you can wait a day or two?

I thought the last 3 were a bit crap really. Episode 1 was a great tech demo tho.

AOTC was better than PM, mostly because of the battle at the end and Natalie Portman's catsuit.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a lot more than one man 'camping' at the Royal Wedding*

    I'm sick of their/there, your/you're, must of/must've mistakes.

Funnily enough I did it on purpose. I was curious to know which spelling nazi would pick it up first and like last time it was you. Second time with 'your'.

Do I get any points for three in a row?

    edit. Typo ;)

No they don't annoy me. It seems to annoy you tho so I'll keep on doing it. :)

BTW adults usually use a capital letter after a full stop. I noticed that you did not bother in another thread.

I'm with you on that Derbs. They got slated by some. Then it became fashionable to pick holes in them (even though there's crap dialogue, acting, and effects in the original trilogy as well). Although, I still hope that Ep 3 will mainly feature Jar Jar Binks being slowly digested over a thousand years by the Sarlak Pit.

Yes, but the first three aren't an hour longer than they're story merits, don't overuse CG, and have some characters who aren't completely humourless (prat-falling jamaican aliens don't count). Han Solo was cool, and amusing. He has no counterpart in the new films.

Honestly I watched the first three again very recently and they aren't perfect, but they are pretty damn good ... episode IV for example is a nigh-on perfect fairy tale, set in space, with effects that look impressive even now. And they're SHORT. Empire strikes back is non-stop action ... there's barely a moment's let up. RoTJ is the weakest of the lot in my opinion.

Episode 1 ... I watched it several times on video and each time my conviction that it was too long grew and grew. It's in dire need of editing.

And Episode 2 ... the "cow-surfing" alone made me want to scream in anger. It's *terrible* CG, and completely unnecessary.

I have no argument with you about the "cow surfing". Excruciating !

I have some work to do so will refuse to be drawn into discussions over the relative merits of the old vs new trilogies. My heart will always be with those original films for the impact they had on an entire generation. However, I *must* point out that Empire is mainly criticised for being too slow (and when it was released was a major disappointment after the non-stop action of Ep4). And if Lucasfilm didn't use CG they couldn't actually *do* half the shots they manage to accomplish seamlessly (like most of the sets for example - you know, stuff that just gets accepted by an unquestioning eye).
Many shots from the original trilogy look impressive even now because they've been tarted up with CG. If you still have the original trilogy on VHS, you'll see Matte Paintings that stand out like cheap plywood cut-outs and puppets that are obvious puppets.
Doesn't mean we love them less. Just that technology has moved on.

Still, that "cow surfing" has brought a pained expression to my face, so thanks for reminding me that I shouldn't get TOO excited about RotSith. ;-)
