Registered 11 years agoAdd NTSC castlevania to my list of purchases above. At £42 quid, I don't think it's that bad tbh. -

I have all of those except FFIII and Chrono trigger on pal and now I've got to get them all again on NTSC
I would go:
Mario World
Yoshi's Island
Streetfighter 2 Turbo
Metroid
Castlevania IV
Sim City
Secret of Mana
FFIII
LTTP
Chrono Trigger
just off the top.
Chrono Trigger is hard to get I believe. The rest are gettable if you don't mind paying..gif)
That is pretty much my top ten list too though. Years ago I might have added the first donkey kong country, if only for the infuriating mine cart levels
Still, a starting NTSC lineup on day one of Castlevania IV, Secret of Mana and Super Metroid isn't a bad start.

Registered 14 years agoI think the Dreamcast is probably as retro as I'll go (except perhaps the first PS).
Been playing since the C64 but I fear anything older will just seem to clunky to me! -

Registered 12 years agoQuad, you're a man after my own hear - no self control!
As for the Dreamcast, I did have one at one point but swapped it with someone on here for enough cash to buy RDR (I was skint at the time). To be honest, I don't even regret it. I respect Sega games and consoles but there is something about the way those games play that turns me off. On all Sega consoles the games tend to be very immediate, fast-paced and arcade-like, whilst Nintendo games tend to more considered and slow-burning and a completely different sort of experience, which I prefer.
And that's good, because it means I'm not tempted to buy in. Although I was playing Altered Beast last night on the PS3 Megadrive Collection. What the fuck is that game about?

Registered 14 years agoChrono Trigger is fantastic. £77 cart only is the best price at the moment though:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Chrono-Trigger-Nintendo-SNES-1995-/171760216769?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27fdb4eac1
(FWIW there are much worse games for £77).
Another SNES classic is Turtles in Time, which is a 60hz revelation:

This copy of TiT (heh) is a good example of what we were on about on the other page. It's the superior version, you're paying for international delivery, and it's still 20% cheaper than the PAL version. -

Terranigma is also great (apparently) but I'm a bit confused about that one. The english language version was supposedly only released in PAL format but there are loads of US versions on eBay. Must be repro carts? -

Registered 14 years agoI've got the Japanese version of Yoshi's Island by the way and it's perfectly playable. About the same amount of text as SMW. PAL version is literally 5 times as expensive. -

Registered 11 years agoyou can get a lot of them for the £30 - £50 mark (AES) but some of them are eye watering. (Metal Slug US version £7000, Kizuna Encouter 5 pal copies known - £35,000)!!
Neo Geo CD games go from £5 up to £300 for the Metal Slugs. Most are at the bottom end. The only trouble with the Neo Geo CD is that loading times are painful. -

Yeah there are a lot of arcade coin ups on the Sega systems I guess. Whereas super Mario world for example is a totally different kettle of fish. However, I will say that Suzuki alstare racing on the Dreamcast is immense fun. I've never seen anyone fly through the air so far when you crash. And the speed. It's so fast.
I've got that sega ps3 collection too! Altered beast. Heh, mad as batshit.
I can't wait for castlevania and metroid to turn up for the NTSC. I'm going to set up the SNES in the living room if I can fit the bastard in with everything else ready for when that converter turns up.
Curse this thread - i was quite happy playing bloodborne ffs

The Retron is a nice simple way of getting things presentable on an HDTV basically.
