Yes mate, although it is exactly the same as Vanilla Sky, same director, Penelope Cruz etc etc, just a bit less glossy, and a bit more boobies.

Worth watching both to see the differences.

IMVHO the original is better because it's less glossy and doesn't have Tom Cruise in it.

Nu-uh, it's definitely not the same director. Cameron Crowe directed Vanilla Sky but Alajandro Amenebar directed Abre los ojos.

Saw this last night, s'very good but I'd seen the end of Vanilla Sky already so it kinda spoiled it.

Did anyone catch that weird western on afterwards with Jonny Depp and Gabriel Byrne? It also had Bishop from Aliens. Erm. Lance Henriksen.

'Dead Man'. It's fantastic, isn't it?. I was annoyed that the opening credits were sped up, though. We didn't get to hear the opening music in its entirety. And the score is wonderful: Neil Young on top form.

Mmm, but how irritating was it when the subtitles got in the way of a nip at one point?

Anyway, I'll be watching Vanilla Sky. I quite liked Abre los Ojos...but I felt it was a bit slow at the beginning, and in other parts as well. I suspect an American remake will change that.

Also, rewatching the story will give me a chance to work out what what before and after you know what.

Well, I thought that the original was better in every way except the soundtrack and maybe that soppy bit at the end when he talks to Sofia.

/Apparently owns most of the Vanilla Sky soundtrack.

Anyway, the characters in the remake seemed much more shallow than in the original. I didn't really care about Tom Cruise and co, but I actually felt sorry for Cesar when he was trying to cover his scar with his hair. And stuff.

Also - is this a woman's film? I mean, I'm tempted to go for the DVD of Open Your Eyes. Would that be a little... queer?

Sorry, yes that's right. I knew that Amenebar had a few credits on Vanilla Sky, including writing it, I just forgot that he didn't direct it.

    I wouldn't have said so. I mean, it's basically a sci-fi film, isn't it?

In the end, I didn't watch much of Vanilla Sky - not sure why, but I expect it's because I knew the story. I'm not sure that c4's decison to screen them back-to-back was such a good idea in the end. From what I saw, the Nuria character (Cameron Diaz) seemed a lot more sympathetic, which probably isn't a good thing. And with Cesar you felt for him even when he was being a twat at the beginning of the film, which I didn't with Tom Cruise. But then I always find Cruise obnoxious, whatever part he plays (which occasionally is a good thing - e.g. Magnolia).

It's not a woman's film, no. Like mal said, it's essentially a Sci-Fi film. I own the DVD, and I'm not gay (as far as I know).
