So I'm heading for a cheap and cheerful holiday with my other half, but were deciding out the two. Is tunisa like Marrakech? Because we recently came back from there and we didn't like it all too much. Edited by godofporn at 01:31:30 07-05-2015 |

Registered 14 years agoTunisia is more an all-inclusive posh resort kind of deal IME unless you're particularly adventurous. Greece you can and should wander around and take in some culture. -

Registered 7 years agoThanks for your input guys. So is Tunisia not safe? Unless you stay in your resort? And what's the best place to chill in Greece that don't have chavs -

One thing though, i thought the food in greece was terrible apart from the kebabs, but you can't eat kebabs twice a day for a week. -

Registered 7 years agoHmmm so it seems Greece is the safer option and plus wont get shot there and to top it off, I could look at the ancient history of the god of porn.

Registered 15 years agoGreek economy is up the shitter. Expect low prices on everything there. Tunisia will be generally cheap as well, but treat it a bit like Egypt if you've ever been - fantastic resorts, shite to go out and explore.
Can recommend booking a villa on one of the isles (Kef maybe?) and just hiring a car. Best two weeks I'd had in a long time when I went. -

Yeah, avoid Tunisia if you want to move out of your hotel. Greece is much safer and less hassle. It's also got more to see and do. -

So Greece it is unless anyone has any other suggestions. -

Registered 8 years agoCrete is an amazing place, I would happily move there tomorrow if there was a job going.
There is loads of history if you are in to that sort of thing and it's beautiful. The food was pretty good to but you will need to hire a car and the other thing is if you get a day or three to spare you can hop on a ferry and head to Santorini which again is amazing. -

Registered 15 years agoWhy not use airb&b? Dirty cheap prices to rent out someones property for say a week. I'm looking at a two bed villa in Poros that's a 5 minute walk from the beach. Bit of a sleepy seaside greek town maybe, but for a relaxing break it looks great and is only £53 per night! -

Registered 20 years agoWe went to Tunisia in October, and have to agree - inside the resort was great, outside, not so. Folk trying to rip you off left right and centre.
Went Greek island hopping for our honeymoon, great holiday. Nothing beats sitting in a taverna at the edge of the blue sea, cold beer, calimari, Greek salad. Should really go back... -

Registered 17 years agoMrs and I have been to both Mykonos and Djerba in the last few years. Tunisia is a shit hole. When I landed at the airport and was getting the coach transfer to the resort, I thought we'd landed in Baghdad. I know it sounds pretty dramatic to say that, but there were piles of rubbish everywhere, and when we went to the local Souhk (market), - we just got overwhelmed with sellers trying to peddle all manner of crap on us. We did go into the Sahara though for a day, and visit several Star Wars filming locations.
Mykonos on the other hand was awesome, with a great selection of beaches to laze about on, and a massive selection of restaurants to eat at, which were all pretty cheap and really good. We rented a quad bike for the week, which gave us some freedom. -

Registered 9 years agoMy brother in law, and my 2 year old niece, are Greek so it's the law that I say Greece! Greece! Greece!
For a summer holiday, you can't beat any of the Greek Islands. Absolutely stunning! You could even go on a relatively cheap Greek Island cruise if the budget allows.
Greek food is pretty decent IMO. The kebabs (souvlaki) are amazing street food. In the Tavernas you can get some lovely food, including obvious ones like Moussaka (always made with beef, never Lamb by the way contrary to popular belief and the supermarket versions you get in the UK). Personally I'd really recommend pastitsio which even more like a lasagne and absolutely delicious. If you go anywhere that has a Terkenlis (a Greek patisserie originally based in Thessaloniki) then you absolutely must buy yourself a white chocolate tsoureki (a traditional Easter bread/cake but available there all year round). One of the most delicious things you will ever consume.
Regarding price, the Islands might be cheaper but my sister lived in Athens until recently and it was still extortionate despite the economic difficulties. -
