It's definitely worth completing the shard collection if nothing else.

Anyone have experience of the (more) retro one curse of the moon?

Thinking of picking that up for switch.

It's expect it's fine if you like retro games, but I couldn't really get on with it.

I find that with a lot of old and retro styles games though, things have moved on and so have I. Having thoroughly rinsed Ritual of the Night and loved every minute I grabbed SotN from the current GwG and lasted about 20 minutes before deciding it was a bit shit and playing something else. So I'm probably not the best person to offer up an opinion.

Curse of the moon is really good and very polished. It is more like the likes of Rondo of Blood with split routes rather than full freedom to explore though. Runs well on everything too (I got it on 3DS)

@One_Vurfed_Gwrx Cool thanks I'll probably give it a go then.

I have not been as immediately enamoured by this as I had hoped.

It's fine, but the reliance on contact damage from some enemies instead of actual attack patterns feels clunky in a world where games like Hollow Knight exist, where basically all the damage you're going to take feels like it comes from enemies' actual attacks not just walking into you.

The latest boss I've fought is a prime example, the mad blood lady, all her actual attacks were easy to avoid, but she would persistently backdash through me for almost as much damage as her attacks which has no telegraph or windup. (Once she did it from in front of me, clipped me with her toe for damage)

Worse that Zangetsu in the same situation has a teleport backdash then attack from behind that doesn't do contact damage (he doesn't do any at all) and feels like a much fairer attack because the damage comes at the end.

I would say the bosses are a step down from SotN; slightly more chaotic and less learnable. I found it hard to describe to a mate the other day but perhaps what you're saying about the contact damage is the real reason.

I don't have the same complaints about the normal mobs though, they seem like classic Castlevania to me.

Still love the game, I'm on 99% as we speak and I'm not one to go for full completion unless I'm truly enamoured

The bats are the worst enemy in the game. Those fucking bats.

If you're on 99% go talk to Alucard. He might have a surprise for you.

God help you if you happen to be using a slow weapon like I did.

They're worse than elementals imo. Elementals are unpredictable and tricky to hit, but at least they're a real enemy.

Bats, though. Bats die in one hit, and they don't do any appreciable damage to you. They exist only to annoy. I'd prefer to fight pretty much any other enemy in the game, just enough with the cunting bats already.

    @Mola_Ram

Yup, I had to switch to swords/clubs because they were just fucking me up. Can't even see them half the time and as for their "predictable arc" - that's clearly bollocks. They're evil fuckers.

Use the spammy sword like the one the demon barbers drop.

You can spam its attacks and move, so it chops through bats.

    I'm a bit stuck

I've drained the fountain, so now what? That didn't really seem to achieve anything.

    Ignore me, figured it out.

Do you have the Invert ability?

If you do, then think of a cool place you might like to try that ability out.

(I can give more hints if you need it) :)

I've got invert but can't think where to use it. I've marked it on the map so I'll nip back and try and be creative with it. Just found gebel too, so marked that on the map too

    Cheers

Wearing that armour stops you from taking damage from traps. In this instance, the spikes won't hurt you.

Use your Invert ability around the giant circular tower? How much more specific do you need?

There's a massive, massive tower on the right hand side of the map. Where you fought dragons.

    ...you haven't been there?

And that helps get past the spikes yes? Yes, done that area. I'm guessing I missed the armour then?

Yes, go back there and use your Invert ability to get the thing you need.
