Couldn't find a thread for this but I likes it... Very ambitious kick-start that probably won't realise completion

    umbra

Umbra is an action-RPG that aims to fuse the open-world freedom of Skyrim with the top-down hack n slash combat and character progression of Diablo.

Looks superb. I'm guessing PC only though and mines broke.

CrashVoodoo, why ambitious? The target is what the team needs minimum to complete the game at a base level. Any cheaper, they'd not have enough money, crash and burn and we'd have another KS tragedy on our hands of a developer who can't deliver their product.

I think the name is pretty cool personally, and the price for a digi copy is pretty reasonable unlike other kickstarters... I've backed it anyway!

I think he means ambitious project rather than ambitious funding goal.

Thanks for clarification, Twelveways. The game's been in development for the last few years and the tech demo is very impressive. I'm hoping to get one of the EG team will take a look some time next week.

Yeah. The funding goal should be hit but the project itself seems ambitious and I can easily see it scaled back.

Looks to have a decent variety in level design based on that fleeting teaser. Gets an extra thumbs up for what looks like a fight on a giant's head.

Well it certainly looks great. If you could play it with a controller like Diablo 3 on console, I'd be in. But it certainly looks like it will have the same crappy mouse controls as PC Diablo or Torchlight again.

Umbra = Shadow. Or close enough anyway.

    *bump*

Couldn't resist the Steam early access any longer (it's now called Wolcen)

This is still *very* early access, but bloody hell, they surely got the basics right. Combat feels pleasingly meaty, it looks gorgoeus, and they have all the right ideas. Neat stuff, too, like electricity-based spells working better in water, while fire-based spells get worse, etc.

Yeah, it might look a bit generic, and it's very much in the same vein as Diablo 2 and Path of Exile, but I really don't care. Can't recommend it at this point because who knows how it will finally turn out, mind, but at the moment, it's a point and clicker that immediately grabbed me.

Shouldn't this be getting close to release date?

It's still an early alpha. I don't know if they ever mentioned a date, but it can't be close I am afraid.

Damn. I backed it on kickstarter and I think kickstarted has it listed for 'Oct 2016'.

I saw the latest updates on kickstarter and some mention in one of the latest release notes about adding a bunch of stuff and wiping savegames, so I'll hang on until they release it before having a go.

This now has a release date for next week ( Feb the 13th ) so I decided to give it another go and it's changed a lot from when I first tried it years ago.

Really liking what I've played so far, the combat is fairly slick, not quite D3 but a big step up from PoE which is a huge plus in my book. I'm guessing that if you're into ARPG's you might have bought the beta years ago on early access so just thought I'd give foaks a heads up about the release. Definitely worth another go - here's the details about the full release.

It's been released and it's a lot of fun. So nice to go classless and go with melee and magic or whatever you fancy ( though I'm sure a meta will quickly be worked out ). Having a total blast with this so far !

So, this finally came out of early access yesterday and by all accounts it's really, really good (a few bugs and some initial server woes aside).

Is anyone playing it? I wasn't aware of it all, but it looks fucking sweet.

Yes its a bit buggy but nothing game breaking. One or two minor enemies just wont die and the sound is a bit flaky. They seem to have ditched the open world which was maybe a tad ambitious anyway. There doesn't seem to be mountains of loot scattered everywhere which can be only a good thing and the UI has a clean look so far. The levelling system is quite deep and fresh also. Early days but its quite impressive so far.
