| I kind of know what he is getting at. One of the pleasant things about Doom (Reboot) was that it gives no fucks to the story, Slayer picked up a monitor and flung it aside as a nod to it. Game looks great, but the story stuff looks like generic naff shit. |

I've no idea who Edwin is or how it's reviewing in general. All I know it's it looks awesome and can't wait for my cdkeys code to show so I can get it downloaded. -

Edwin shouldn’t be allowed near game reviews! -

I tend to just read the EG reviews and then Google for the VG247 reviews round-up and follow any outlier reviews there to see if the issues reviewers are flagging up concern me at all. For Doom Eternal: https://www.vg247.com/2020/03/17/doom-eternal-review-scores-pc-ps4-xbox-one/

The Doom Eternal reviews seem pretty great generally, but a few sites docking it points for the unnecessarily expanded story. That's probably an issue that's easy to overlook, but I can see why reviewers would find it unnecessary: Doom has never been about the narrative. -
I'll venture onto opencritic and just hand pick a few high and low scoring ones and skim them. I don't tend to read reviews anymore. If anything I'll read them after I've played a game.
My preferred approach is just looking at some gameplay on YT or twitch. -

Just read the Eurogamer review. Edwin is an insufferable bore. You can almost picture him masturbating over his own purple prose: referencing porn, O-faces and dripping orifices in a Doom game...It reads like a self-congratulatory orgy for one. -

It’s really annoying, I quite agree. However, I now have two kids sharing my Steam library, and of course only one player can use it at once. Which has actually made it quite handy to have games on a couple of other platforms!

Registered 6 years agoDoom Eternal's DLC has finally launched to little or no fanfare.
Plus they've released the battlemode as a f2p standalone to hopefully get some interest in the mode. Not sure it will work but fairplay to ID for giving a go. -

I was waiting for the price to come down but all my friends who got it lost interest pretty fast and it disappeared from the media coverage quickly too -

Registered 4 years agoI highly doubt it flopped. Sequel to huge 2016 hit, it got amazing reviews. I think it's just most games dlc don't really get much media attention unless it's something like cod. Nioh 2 dlc for example I need to actively Google to discover when each expansion comes out. Next week or this week the dlc for sekiro comes out but you wouldn't know it if you weren't actively interested in finding out about it. -

Registered 8 years agoI just watched IGNs first 15 minutes of it. Holy shit. I think I'll grab the season pass at some point down the line (too much to play just now) as I really enjoyed Eternal but if there's one thing I learned from it, and what I'm going to carry into this, is it's getting dropped down to the easiest setting. I don't have the minerals for what this is going to throw at me.

The first game had more of a long tail as it got great word of mouth and reviews. Doom Eternal probably had a more standard AAA hype-based launch with high sales, then disappeared quickly.
The game is generally less welcoming, and word of mouth seems to have been more mixed too, so I guess that didn't help either.
It doesn't matter much now, anyway. With MS buying Zenimax, all bets are off regarding the next one.
