It kind of makes me feel fuzzy inside to think there may be an uproar over the blood and gore of a DOOM game.

/puts on 4 non Blondes and long- sleeve t-shirt.

We had Hatred doing a poor man's 'Postal uproar' not long ago as well. Everything seems to be folding back on itself.

From the stuff I've seen, it looks like they've forgotten that the level design was as much a part of Doom's success as the big guns and gore.

Doom was about exploring labyrinths, solving simple puzzles and finding secrets, all while triggering ambushes when you least expect them. The best levels encouraged you to think about how you approached each area, what weapons you used, and when to run/encourage infighting.

Now they look too focused on trying to appear realistic, at the expense of design. That initial level looked horribly linear, too.

    @Daryoon

Exactly my feelings. There doesn't look to be much wrong with the core gameplay (aside from the pointless pace ruining executions), but if they showed off some less linear level design then it could've looked a lot more special.

It's like no one at id watched the brilliant Double Fine Doom retrospective with Romero, (link on the last page). The level design was at least half the experience.

They should've spent at least half the E3 demo backtracking over the map looking for a red key

I wonder if that gravity gun ripoff will be in this?

aye right. can't imagine anyone being able to scribble that level down on a napkin in 20 years like anyone who played doom can with E1M1, can you?

really disappointing demo, with weedy enemies, weapons, and no movement or tension to it. seems to have gone down well with the crowd and the press (allegedly the same thing, but i'd rather not think about the tastemakers being the same people whooping and hollering at gore), but i feel like us folk who enjoyed doom for what it was, aren't really the market any more.

Looked like fun and essentially the first doom with updated graphics which is what they appear to be aiming for.

Only slight nag is the level looked very similar to stuff we have seen before. Although we have only seen 10 min of a 10-15 hour game. Would like to see more levels like the "hell" section in Doom3.

Really got the felling they want to cause a fuss with the gore aswell. Which is fine by me, doom caused a stir back in the day and its great fun winding up the daily mail readers.

Of all the things shown at E3 thus far... This speaks to me the most.

Fast. Visceral. An audio assault, it's as if the soundtrack is ripping itself to pieces.

There's a single-mindedness to it. A purity. There does not appear to be anything superfluous going on. Just... DOOM.

Yeah reminded me a lot of Machine Games and wouldn't be surprised if they were involved at some point. They have really picked up iDs baton with Wolfenstein afterall.

Only thing I didn't like in the gameplay clip was the enemies exploding icons like pinata all over the place. Other than that, it was brilliant.

For the people talking about open areas and enemy count... If the campaign doesn't do it, I'd imagine the built in editor will.

    That looks especially cool.

Sucks that we have to wait... A YEAR

The moment seems a little floaty and the guns seem to lack a bit of umph, though that might just be the video or my memories of Doom are all gore tinted.

Still looking forward to wading into Hell, especially if I can jump into the editor and make my own little corner.

Very true. It makes me feel like I should be going into PC World to buy a 1000-map add on for a tenner. Ah the good old days.

Can you make your own SP campaign with the editor then, aside from the Horde-type stuff?

I would be in heaven if that was a thing.

Going to be pretty strange to play an arena shooter on console, there's hardly any.

It's all a big act. He is really a she and has 7 kids and they all reside in Rhyll where he/she spend their days playing gala bingo and watching loose women.
