So all the FUT team of the season stuff seems to be happening atm. I don't know what it's like on console, but on PC I must be facing squads with blue team of the season cards every other game. I've spent actual money on FUT in the past, perhaps 80 quid or so, and the best I've ever seen was maybe a Hulk or a Matic, so I can't quite understand how so many folk seem to acquire these apparently super rare cards. Same thing happening on console or just a quirk of the limited pc player base? |

Registered 11 years agoFrom what I gather from some friend who are heavily into UT, around this time of year everyone completely sells their squads and spend everything on packs. Also they'll have been saving packs throughout the year from drafts, league wins etc as the cards available depends on when you open them, not when you earned them. So a combination of those 2 things I guess.

Also just a case of buying TOTS players. Not all of whom cost much.

Registered 6 years agoRe scripting, we've all had that game where you've had 10-12 reasonable chances not go in, and then your online opponent has one and they score.. I guess that could happen as well in real life tbf, but it's when you're on a bad run and it happens that you start thinking shenanigans. Anyway, whether you think it's there or not, the way it should be of course is that the playing field is balanced and level, and relative skill is the only determining factor.
Speaking of bad runs, I do think there is some unbalanced momentum balancing going on. Every Fifa, after I've gone on a run, I'll inevitably run into a block of games where I can't see or shoot straight for toffee. Again, happens as well in real life I suppose, and I appreciate the idea of being moved up a skill bracket, but I dunno the jumps just seem a bit abrupt and disproportionate is all.
I mostly really enjoy FIFA games - 16 being my favourite - but these unnecessary quirks do tarnish them a little. -

Registered 16 years agoWhat are some tips for getting good at this then? Just got it free with EA Access and it's too easy on Semi-Pro but far too hard for me on Pro... as in, getting battered by much worse teams.
Last year was the first time I'd played one of these properly in years and even then I only picked it up for a kick about.
My main problem is maintaining possession, especially after receiving passes.
Treat me like the idiot that I am! -

Registered 6 years agoPick Madrid or Wales and when you can't Bale your way through ten men, get the ball back and try again. If you do score, make your opponent watch it.
Leicester are awesome in this, at 4 stars the game is really good imo. -

Registered 16 years agoI take it he's the most absurdly over-powered player in the game then? I try not to play as either of those teams to be honest, but it might be good to learn with I guess!
I'm a Liverpool fan so that might not be doing me any favours

Registered 11 years agoPlay the skill games to familiarise you with the mechanics of the game and myriad of controls.
On the pitch, I would advise keeping it simple, be patient and don't be afraid to pass backwards. Pace control is a big factor too so changing from moving just using LS, to controlled dribbling (LT), face-up dribbling (LT+RT) and sprinting (RT).
No touch dribbling (LB) seems very effective against the CPU but personally I could never get to grips with it.
I found Professional to be just about right (maybe slightly too easy). World Class is where I found the AI starts to get all cheaty. -

Registered 16 years agoThanks for all that, very good advice that I'll put into practice on my next game! I admit, I've not really used LT much... that could very well be part of where I'm going wrong. -

Registered 11 years agoLT is handy in Fifa if used right. If you're in possession and hold LT without any other buttons, your player will shield the ball from the opposition allowing you to hold up the ball and lay it off or turn the defender. -

Registered 6 years agoYeah, being comfortable shielding the ball before an option to pass develops is a really good skill in fifa, not necessarily dribbling but holding it up.
Fifa has always had chariacture superstars. To be fair it's nowhere near as bad in 16 because they nerfed pace. 15 was dribble dribble dribble. -

Registered 12 years agoTried playing a Player career mode last night in preparation for the Story Mode in 17 which I'm really looking forward to, and yeah, didn't get on with it at all. Hope they've made some major improvements. -

Registered 6 years agoI battered PES 16 last week, I keep getting dragged back by Fifa because the most dangerous game is people, but if you guys prefer single player and career mode it seriously does piss on Fifa IMO. -

Registered 11 years agoNot meaning this to turn this into PES vs Fifa but no matter how hard I tried I just couldn't get into PES.
I couldn't figure out a way to hold up and shield the ball to really slow things down. It almost felt as though the game wanted the match to be played as constant end-to-end attacking football.
I just feel as though I have so much more control over exactly what I want the player to do in Fifa. That may well be because I know Fifa controls inside out and I just hadn't got to grips with PES. -

Bit worried I've been playing Fifa wrong all year. I genuinely don't know about the face up or no touch dribbling, I use LT occasionally but not often. Are they any good? -

Registered 11 years agoI don't really think there is a right or wrong way to play it and it's probably just a case of whatever works for you. I mean I hardly ever use skill moves and get by fine but there are skillers out there where that is all they will do and completely dominate using that particular style of play.
Some of the moves are pretty situational as well, that's what I found with no touch dribbling. Plus the animations seemed horrible which put me off. The face up dribbling (LT+RT) I do use a lot however, as I find it the most reliable way to dribble around players (vs the cpu anyway). -

Registered 6 years agoYeah, some players are really good with skill moves. 16 it's less prominent because passing is more successful than beating people, but 15 was annoying because the attacker is invulnerable throughout the skill animation so the zidane pirouette that covers about 5 yards is broken if you get good.
I agree though, it is pretty creative, I was playing coop with my cousin on 15 last night and we came up against a division 1 pair with a really good record that never dribbled at all. -
By dribbling I don't mean skill moves, I mean just trying to get round a defender normally making him guess left or right instead of passing
